Dominant Pitching: Simpson Academy vs Copiah Academy

Ronald Sims
Mississippi Scouting Director

Gallman, MS - Both teams received quality outings on the mound Tuesday, although Simpson’s early run would be enough offense as they claim a 1-0 victory over Copiah Academy.

The Colonels gave the ball to Hinds recruit, Preston Johnson as he was effective the entire game keeping the Cougars’ bats in check allowing one hit, one run, one walk while striking out ten. Throwing 75% strikes, Johnson commanded the zone with multiple pitches but the Cougar lineup would find a way to scratch a run across in the third after a couple errors and a passed ball, allowing Franklin to score for Simpson Academy.

This one run would be all that Caleb Garner and the Cougars needed as he worked for 6.2 innings allowing three hits, four walks, while punching out 14. Garner faced several big situations in the game with runners in scoring position and less than two outs, but he was able to fight through the adversity and maintain the one run lead for his team. Although Garner did not get a complete game, due to pitch count, he was able to give the ball to his team mate Noah Magee who would record the save and strike out in the one batter that he faced.
