Fall Spotlight - 2022 Prospects

Dan Jurik
Scouting Director - Pacific Northwest

Puyallup, WA - Earlier this Fall we were able to hold a series events for prospects looking to showcase their ability. Today we're focusing on some '22 prospects from our Underclass Fall Showcase.

Fall events events such as these provide players with the opportunity to build their profile with the most up-to-date information and video footage before heading into the off-season. All players in attendance receive an online profile with their verified statistics, player report, picture and video. Additionally, all subsequent stories written about a prospect will be linked to the player’s profile, ultimately creating a one-stop shop for recruiters.

Showcases help identify which prospects have asserted themselves towards the top of their class as well as who might be one of the next youngsters to emerge onto the scene. They also serve as potential identifiers for invite-only events such as our Future Games and Junior Future Games

Connor Enebrad 1B / LHP / Annie Wright USB/Stadium, WA / 2022

6-foot, 180 pounds with a lean build and frame that can add more weight. Set up in the box shows a more closed off stance than on previous looks. Stays tall with some bend on backside prior to leg lift. Hands stay below shoulder line and use a subtle scap load during forward stride. Relaxed, contact type approach. Loose hands/wrists to create easy barrel action into the zone. Defensively, handled opportunities in the OF with clean, choppy footwork. Stays balanced with feet underneath him while moving to the ball. Funnels ball in on glove side with consistent exchange into throwing motion. Uses inside-step on a side shuffle to get momentum behind throws. Low glove side as he separates and gets to low ¾ release point. On the mound, continues to work from the stretch only. Eyes stay on target at leg lift. Creates some bend on his back leg as he breaks hands and begins to work down the slope. Keeps a level shoulder angle into landing. Lands with clean direction towards target. Hips open up while front side stays closed. Arm path shows full extension then shortens up into ¾ release point. Tall, upright finish after release. Generates some of the highest pure spin rates we’ve seen on his FB/CB combination.

Harrison Kelly C / OF / Mount Si, WA / 2022

6-foot, 185 pounds with a mature frame and some present strength. Sets up in the box with a wide, balanced stance & front foot slightly open. Hands show consistent rhythm/movement prior to forward move. Uses a short stride into landing as hands drift down and back. Shows some weight shift forward as barrel gets into contact. Works with an uphill path thru the zone. Stays tall at contact against a posted front leg to get additional leverage. High 2-handed finish. Defensively, flashed solid mobility while receiving at catcher. Looked comfortable with one-knee-down set up while keeping an upright torso. Adjusted set-up when throwing down to 2nd, showing a staggered stance with glove side angled forward. Comes out of crouch with short, tight arm action into a high ¾ release. Backside comes thru after release.

Matthew Overholt OF / SS / Archbishop Murphy, WA / 2022

Wiry frame at 5-foot-11, 170 pounds with a square build to upper half. Offensively, starts in a tall, simple set up with alignment towards pitcher. Has some weight pre-shifted onto backside as front foot begins on toes. Takes a short, forward stride while upper half rotates inward to create torque in his core. Rotational barrel action into the zone with a flat path into contact and level finish. Stays in his legs with tall posture. Worked mostly pull-side throughout BP. Defensively, size/athleticism translates well to the OF. Moves easily with long strides from his high waisted frame. Aggressive approach when coming in on the ball. Consistent exchange into a side shuffle to get momentum behind throws. Clean arm action from a high ¾ release. Consistent ball flight with accuracy.

Luke Reinkensmeyer C / OF / Skyline , WA / 2022

5-foot-9, 170 pounds with a compact, strong build. In the box, feet set up just outside of shoulder width. Hands start away from body, below shoulder line. Tall, relaxed posture. Minimal weight shift as he takes short stride to create forward move. Subtle push back with hands to create load. Tight, compact swing with noticeable barrel speed. Quick rotation from lower half/core into contact. One-handed finish. Defensively, presents a compact target behind the plate with low hips. Showed a one-knee-down set up while receiving. Maintains control of soft glove hand throughout. Quick actions out of crouch and into throwing motion. Tight, bent arm action with high ¾ release. Ball flight stayed true out of hand. Also an above average runner whose athleticism should play well at C.

Jaiden Tolentino-Balagtas 2B / SS / Central Kitsap , WA / 2022

5-foot-10, 180 pounds with a proportional frame and build. Upright posture in the box with loose, rhythmic hands and some barrel action prior to swing. Quick, short stride into a toe tap. Push back load with hands. Slight drift into contact. Level barrel path thru the zone with a rotational finish. Middle of the field type approach. Stays in legs with a one-handed finish after contact. Defensively, uses a high set-up as he begins his pre-pitch approach. Keeps some height in his stance then works down to the ball late with a soft glove hand. Stays active with momentum as he funnels in and comes thru the ball. Clean, easy exchange into low ¾ release. Whippy arm action.

Christopher Woodside C / 3B / Woodinville , WA / 2022

Athletic frame at 6-foot-1, 190 with present strength. Offensively, starts with some weight pre-shifted onto backside with upright posture. Short, low forward stride to get into wider hitting base. Hands stay level with rear shoulder. Slight push back load to create separation. Maintains flexion in lead arm as he initiates swing. Hands stay tight to body. Showed strength at point of contact with a level swing path. Gap to gap type approach with more lift to pull-side. Defensively, showed well at both 3B and C. At the hot corner, actions showed consistent tempo & body control. Stayed light on his feet with a quiet glove hand while funneling ball in. Short, quick arm action with various release points based on the play. At C, solid mobility in lower half with one-knee, goalie type set up. Strong glove hand. Keeps stance centered when throwing down to 2nd. Consistent direction out of crouch with tight arm action and high, over the top release
