Final Power 25 Ranking Release

Ronald Sims
Mississippi Scouting Director

This past weekend concluded the 2018 Mississippi high school spring season, with teams from around the state claiming their crowns as state champions. With that, today Prep Baseball Report Mississippi releases its final 2018 Power 25 team rankings.

Here are a few highlights from the final top 25:

+ After claiming their first state championship since 2015, DeSoto Central comes in at No. 1 in this seasons final Power 25 update after taking the 6A state title.  The Jaguar’s lineup is deep with threats up and down it.  Mississippi State recruits, Kameron James, Hunter French and Blaze Jordan are tough to face at the top part but it doesn’t get any easier for a pitcher with a solid mix of strength and athleticism in the bottom half of the order. With the talent level that the Jaguars displayed and the youth of the lineup you can expect the Jaguars to be familiar visitors to Pearl over the next few years.

+ After making a trip to Pearl in two of the last three seasons, Hattiesburg finally gets a chance to hoist the 5A state championship trophy. The athletic and powerful Tiger lineup came alive last week in Pearl as they posted 20 runs in two games. Mississippi signee, Joe Gray, Louisiana-Lafayette signee, Dexter Jordan, and Miami-Dade JC signee, Kameron Wells all had quality showings as they came through in big moments for there team. Although, Jerry Burkett would have arguably the biggest at-bat as he recorded the walk-off RBI for the Tigers.

+ Vancleave claims first title in school history on the backs of outstanding pitching performances by Jones County JC signee, Bailee Hendon and Mississippi Gulf Coast signee, Hayden Robb. Both Hendon and Robb did not allow a run in Pearl as the as they hoisted 4A state title.

+ St. Andrew’s claimed the 3A state title, and checks in at No. 19. St. Joseph Catholic comes in at No. 22 after claiming the 2A state title, while Nanih Waiya checks-in at No. 24, after claiming the 1A state title.
