Luke Waddell, SS, Loveland HS, Class of 2017

PBR: Why did you choose Georgia Tech?

Waddell: I've known the coaches for a long time and we've developed a great relationship and get along really well. I also love the campus. I've been there twice now and I love everything about the campus and city. Also, I have always wanted to play somewhere south and the ACC is a great conference to play in.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Waddell: There were many schools recruiting me, but by the end of it I was deciding between Vanderbilt, Arkansas, and Tech.

PBR:  Where did Georgia Tech first see you compete?

Waddell: They first saw me when I was 15 when I played for the Midland tribe and then last year in Atlanta Coach Hall saw me play a lot for the Redskins.

PBR: You are only a Junior, how important was it to make you college decision so early? Are you finished with the recruiting process?

Waddell: I wouldn't say it was important to me but I'm sure glad to have it over with. It was very exciting, but I wanted to get it done before this school season started so I wouldn't have to stress about it during the season.

PBR: The ACC is a major baseball conference.  How much of a factor was playing in the ACC in your decision?

Waddell: It was a huge factor. I know going to Georgia Tech playing in that conference I'll be playing the best competition all year round and that's what I wanted.

PBR: What were expectations about the recruiting process and what advice can you give future players as they go through their recruitment?

Waddell: I didn't have many expectations I just kind of went with it and learned it myself. My advice would be just always play your hardest and hustle because you never know if there's a coach in the stands watching you.

PBR: What is your biggest strength as a player and how do you feel that you will help Georgia Tech?

Waddell: My biggest strength is my ability to get on base and defense. If I can get on base I can use my speed to take bags which gets me in a better position to score.

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?

Waddell: My whole family has had the biggest impact. My dad and brother have always been there with the baseball part and then my mom has always been there cheering me on and taking me places so I have to give all of them credit.

PBR:  What were you stats last spring?

Waddell: 404 batting average with 462 on base percentage. 22 stolen bases 18 Rbi 36 hits 23 runs
