June 25 Top Underclass Games: Quick Hits

We held our Underclass Games at UAB on Tuesday, June 25 as 57 players went through the workout and played in one of the two games that followed. Our staff on hand was extremely impressed with the young talent on hand and look for many of these names to become prominent in the state in the years to come. Over the next week we will look at all of the players from the event but today we will look at just a few of the standouts.

Wiiliam Burgreen (2022, SS/2B, Decatur) Athletic switch hitting SS that shows nice glove actions in the dirt and showed some juice off of the barrel from both sides of the plate. Nice runner that turned in a 6.77 60 yard dash.

Alex Wade (2021, OF/RHP, Madison Academy) Advanced skill set for this young player. Shows nice rhythm in the hands and a short, compact swing. Plus arm strength form the OF (86 mph) and can run. Had a loud AM on a line out to the RCF gap in game play.

Avery Seaton (2021, OF/RHP, Madison Academy) Really like the approach at the plate from this OF. Does a nice job of staying simple with the swing and attacking the middle of the field. The arm works from the OF (86 mph) and he was also 84 mph off the mound and really attacked hitters.

Grant Jay (2022, C/OF, Mobile Christian) Physical young player that showed solid work behind the plate. Pop times were in the low 2.0’s all day with throws in the bag. The barrel has some definite juice to all fields. Nice day for the young catcher.

AJ Causey (2021, C, Sparkman) Really like the actions of this ‘21 catcher. Was 94 mph exit velo off of the tee and showed that pop during BP as well. The arm strength is there and the fundamentals behind the plate are already in place.

Charlie Cochran (2022, C/1B, Florence) Another impressive young catcher that showed nice arm strength from behind the plate and did a nice job on balls in the dirt. Showed juice to all fields during BP with a simple approach from the right side.

Austin Cornelius (2021, RHP/OF, Hoover) RHP that really attacked the zone and challenged hitters during his 2 innings on the mound. The FB was up to 83 mph from a ¾ slingy arm slot, creating nice ASR. The slider showed tight spin and he was able to command both sides of the plate.

Nick Hamlin (2021, RHP/3B, Oxford) This guy just continues to progress on the mound. Sat 83-85 during both of his innings and bumped a few 86’s as well. The mechanics are clean and he showed nice ability to locate down in the zone, resulting in several ground ball outs. High ceiling RHP.

Jack Williamson (2021, RHP/SS, Winfield) Showed off the arm in the IF (86 mph) and was up to 83 mph on the mound. Showed nice downward tilt on the FB with a very clean arm path. Has really filled out physically in the last 8 months. Interesting guy to follow.
