JUCO programs across the state of Maryland began preseason practices back in early January. As the calendar quickly turns and with several teams getting ready to open up their 2019 campaigns in the next few weeks, we begin our coverage of the Maryland JUCO Conference with a preseason preview of all fourteen schools. In each preview, we will take a look back at the 2018 season, examine key players that have moved on or left the program, look at some new faces and key players for the upcoming season, and finally take a sneak peak at whats ahead for the 2019 season. We continue our preseason previews with a look at the Hagerstown CC Hawks.

2019 Season Snapshot

Entering his 19th season as the head coach of the Hawks, Scott Jennings is confident that even though this years squad on paper is very young and inexperienced; they have what it takes to continue the streak of 18 straight winning seasons at Hagerstown CC. Returning Maryland JUCO All-Conference awardeeRobbie Houck and sophomore RHP Josh Colliflower will be looked upon as leaders with 19 new freshman on the roster for 2019. Expect to see fellow sophomore returners Nate Cotton, Enrique Morales, and Austin Moser's roles increase as well this year. Freshman Josh Kerns and Dylan Reid figure to see plenty of work on the mound while Jennings hopes that Evan Marushak, Andrew Mathias and Josh Menders will make enough impact in the Hawks lineup to make up for some of their key losses from last years team.

Hagerstown will once again travel to Vero Beach, Florida to kick off their 2019 season. The 10-day, 14-game trip should provide the freshman with plenty of early opportunities and time to become comfortable playing at the JUCO level before returning home to host Harford CC on March 16th for a double-header. The early double-header with Harford CC is magnified even more so this year with the number one seed in the Region XX DI regular season now receiving an opening round bye in the 3-team double elimination format. (Chesapeake College moved from DI to DII following the conclusion of the 2018 season). Despite their youth, expect the Hawks to be competitive once again in both the Maryland JUCO Conference and in the NJCAA Region XX DI Tournament in 2019.
