Mid-Atlantic Summer Championship: Day 1 Notes

This weekend, PBR Tournaments is hosting the first annual Mid-Atlantic Summer Championship at Virginia Sports Complex in Ruther Glen. 15 teams across two age brackets are taking part in the tournament, with each team playing 4 games on Friday and Saturday before the top teams advance to Sunday's bracket play.

PBR staff will be on each field scouting for the entire tournament, look for Twitter coverage from the VA/DC Staff as well as members of the PBR Tournaments staff who will be on site as well. Videos and stats will be taken, highlighting prospects that stood out to our staff.

Here are some Notes on players who stood out during Day 1 action:

Rawlings A's Prospects

-Howard (MD) 2021 RHP Van Switzer was 75-77, touching 78. Curveball was 62-64.

-Atholton (MD) 2021 MIF Nick Varda showed clean actions defensively. Feet worked and were active throughout the catch. Showed some pop at the plate and had some adjustability in the swing. One of the better MIF on the day. 

Virginia Breeze 16U

-Dinwiddie 2020 RHP Colton Daulton was 78-80, curveball had some bite and was 70. 

-Dinwiddie 2021 SS/RHP Kevin Gunn was 83-84 on the day with some arm side run and sink on the fastball with a loose arm action and projection.

-2021 OF Ethan Barnes hit in the leadoff spot for the Breeze. Flashed some power from the right side and is a plus runner and uses it on both sides of the ball. Really nice defender in centerfield with above average arm strength. 

Titus Sports Delaware

-Bishop Shanahan (PA) 2022 SS/RHP Simmi Whitehill has a mature frame and showed some batspeed and power potential from the left side.

-Sussex Tech (DE) 2021 C Jason Shockley showed a quick release and loose arm behind the plate. At the plate has levers and batspeed, lot of projection left to frame.

-Avon Grove (PA) 2021 3B/RHP Jack Lincoln has an athletic makeup and displayed strength in the swing from the right side. Had a couple of hits on the day, including a walkoff single to left field in their second game. 

-Oxford Area (PA) 2021 OF/RHP Aidan Hill was 73-74. CB 66.

-Archmere Academy (DE) 2021 LHP Michael Mallamaci was 70-73. CB 58.

Complete Game Sox

-Spring-Ford (PA) 2020 RHP Justin Calvarese was was 78-80, touching 81 with life from a lower slot. Slider had armspeed and 10/4 bite at 72-73.

-Owen Roberts (PA) 2020 RHP Jackson Jenkins was 75-78 from a high three-quarters arm slot with downward plane on his pitches, he has some projection left as well.

-Spring-Ford (PA) 2021 RHP Jack Price was 77-79 with a very lanky frame and a ton of projection left, quick arm. Spun his curve well at 68.

-Spring-Ford (PA) 2021 OF Dylan DuCharme had a strong day at the plate, fast bat with power from the left side, short quick swing and projection at the plate.

-Spring-Ford (PA) 2020 LHP CJ Ditterline was 76-77. Curveball 66-68. Easy velocity and showed some competitiveness.

TailorMade Mizuno 2021

-Brooke Point 2021 OF Ryan Bellamy had a big day at the plate, showing a quick swing with power potential from the left side, barreling the ball multiple times during the day.

-Brooke Point 2022 RHP/SS Owen Bellamy was 75-78 on the bump with a quick arm, gets some movement. Slider had 10/4 break and was 63-65. Frame has projection and is very athletic.

-Stafford 2020 IF Jimmy Baker showed a short line drive swing and the ability to use the whole field. Chance to be a high-average hitter at the next level.

-Brooke Point 2020 IF/RHP Jackson Foreman was 77 on the bump, with a curveball that was 67.

Stars Baseball 15u Ferrick

-Patriot 2022 RHP David Blevins was 70-72. Curveball was 55.

-Battlefield 2022 RHP Dylan Ryan was 71-73 from a low slot.

-Fusion Academy 2022 LHP Colin Embt was 70-73 from a three quarter slot.

-Woodbridge 2022 RHP Bryson Matsuda was 64-66.

Richmond Braves 15U National

-Lee-Davis 2022 C/RHP Michael Joyce (JMU) showed big time 2-way upside on the day. Multiple barrels in the first game. Also pitched the first game, featuring a fastball that sat 84-86 T87 Curveball was 65-66 and didn't show great feel for it, but leaned on what appeared to be a slider a little later in the outing that was 69-71 and threw it with some comfort. 

-North Stafford 2022 RHP AJ Labrusciano has a projectable frame on the mound. Fastball sat 77-78 T79, slider was 65-68, and changeup was 70-71. 

-Lee Davis 2022 RHP Jackson Barnett filled up the zone at 77-78 and T79 early on. Fastball had some arm side run at times. Did not have a great feel for the breaking ball, that sat at 67-68. 

-Salem (Roanoke) 2022 RHP Elijah Bowery has a big strong frame at 6-foot-3. Sat 80-81 early with the fastball and touched 82 twice. Had ability to elevate the fastball and get some swings a misses. 

Richmond Braves 15U American

-Mountain View 2022 Michael Arce showed a quick arm and projection but struggled with command. Fastball was 74-76. Curveball had 10/4 break and was 62-64. Change-up was 71.

-Spotswood 2022 Luke Keister was 75-77 with an athletic frame. 11/5 breaking curveball was 56-60.

Richmond Braves 14U American

-Glen Allen 2023 SS/RHP Terrence Rhodes had a good two-way day, sitting 76-79 on the mound with a curveball that was 66-67. Showed well at the plate as well, hitting from the left side and making consistent hard contact.

-St. John's College (DC) 2023 RHP Ethan Myung was 70-74 with a curveball that was 58.

South River Seahawks

-St. Mary's (MD) 2022 RHP Evan Roach was 76-79, touched 80. Curveball was 66-67. 

-St. Mary's (MD) 2022 RHP Ryan Merkel was 74-76 with an athletic frame that has some projection.

-Queen Anne's (MD) 2022 RHP/SS Collin Athey had a projectable frame and showed some strength and batspeed with a triple to deep center, while also sitting 76-79 and touching 80 on the mound. Change-up was 70-71 and curveball was 58-61.

BCC Prospects

-Wootton (MD) 2022 C James Walsh has projection, a quick release behind the plate and arm strength. At the plate, showed batspeed and power potential, barreling the ball consistently and driving the ball.

-Kiski School (MD) 2022 LHP Bob Burr was 71-74 from a low slot. Curveball was 60-64.

-Landon (MD) 2022 LHP George Roggie was 75, showed two offspeed pitches, a change-up at 70 and a curveball at 63-67.

-Wootton (MD) 2022 MIF Brady Weiss showed some batspeed and barrel ability at the plate.

RBI Prospects 15u

-Happy Valley (TN) 2021 LHP Travis Whitson was 77-80 touching 81 with a projectable frame and arm action.

-Avery County (TN) 2021 1B Noah Rosato has a physical frame with easy power in his swing, barreling up the ball well on day one.

-Greeneville (TN) 2022 Weston Brooks threw in relief on day one. The right-hander worked out of a sidearm slot and featured two pitches. Fastball was 69-72 with sink and slider sat 62-63 with feel for the zone. 

Virginia Breeze 15u

-South Central (NC) 2022 SS/RHP Alex Bouche has an athletic frame with lots of projection left to it. Played SS and pitched on the day. Solid actions defensively and has some strength in the swing. Came on in relief and sat 81-82 T83 with a 70-72 mph slider. Definite 2-way prospect. 

-New Kent 2022 LHP Nick Redman had a low effort delivery and pounded the strike zone at 75-77 T78-79 a few times. Threw two off speed pitches for strikes, a sweeping breaking ball at 63-64 and a changeup with feel at 68-69 mph.

-Walsingham Academy 2022 2B/RHP Jacob Miller-Bopp had a very solid start on the mound. The 2-way prospect sat 77-79 T80 with feel for the breaking ball. Only gave up one run on the day and was very efficient around the zone.
