Mid-Atlantic Summer Championship: Bracket Recap

This weekend, PBR Tournaments hosted the first annual Mid-Atlantic Summer Championship at Virginia Sports Complex in Ruther Glen. 15 teams across two age brackets took part in the tournament, with each team playing 4 games on Friday and Saturday before the top teams advanced to Sunday's bracket play.

PBR staff was on the field scouting for the entire tournament, with Twitter coverage from the VA/DC Staff as well as notes and podcasts being posted after each day of action. Videos and stats were taken, highlighting prospects that stood out to our staff.

Here is a short recap of the action from Bracket play during Day 3:

16U

VA Breeze 8, TailorMade Mizuno 3

The Virginia Breeze used a big first inning in which they jumped out to a 4-0 lead that they never relinquished en route to a 8-3 victory over TailorMade baseball in the semifinals.

The breeze jumped early on the offensive end with multiple big hits, most notably from Colby Neal a big two-RBI hit early on.

John Horton, 2020 from Kellam HS, pitched a gem for the Breeze goin five strong and shutting down the TailorMade lineup. He used a power fastball with late life and breaking ball that kept the opponents off balance. The Breeze were able to expand lead and double their score to cruise in a game that never was truly close after attacking early.

Complete Game Sox 2, Titus Sports Delaware 1

In was turned out to be a well fought, well pitched game, it was the Complete Game Sox who advanced to the championship after holding off a bases loaded threat from Titus in the Top of the eighth inning and then getting the walk-off winner via base on balls.

Titus took the lead in the top of the fourth inning with a RBI single from the bat of Jacob Stretch into right field. CGS would respond quickly in the bottom of the inning with a sac fly from the bat of Ethan ferraro to tie it up. The score would remain that way until the bottom of the eighth when CGS would get the winner after a bases loaded walk allowed the winning run to score.

Virginia Breeze 6, Complete Game Sox 1

The Virginia Breeze tied the game up with a Cam Belter double after trailing 1-0 in the sixth inning. The Breeze were then able to explode for five runs in the top of the seventh inning to take control of the game. Dylan Bowen got the big RBI with a single up the middle to take a 2-1 lead then the Breeze kept the foot on the gas for four more runs in the inning to take a commanding 6-1 lead and take home the championship.

Richmond Braves National 10, South River Seahawks 5

The Braves scored 3 in the first with a Bennett Shealor RBI 3B as the big blow and also got a home run from CJ DiNapoli in building a 4-0 lead early. The Seahawks rallied to tie the game at 5 in the top of the sixth before the Braves blew the game open in the bottom of the sixth.

BCC Prospects 5, Virginia Breeze 1

A pair of lefties locked into a pitcher's duel early as Bob Burr and Nick Redman controlled a game that was 1-0 through 5 innings. James Walsh had a big game at the plate for BCC, with a 2B and the game's first run and then a 2 RBI single to blow the game open in the sixth inning. Burr went the distance in the win.

Richmond Braves National 7, BCC Prospects 1

BCC got out to a 1-0 lead early, taking advantage of a pair of walks and using a 1st and 3rd play to scratch a run in the first. The Braves' AJ Labrusciano delivered the first run with an RBI single and Xavier Martin and Dallas Hairfield got their big days at the plate going with RBI knocks as well. Martin ended up going 3-3 in the game and Hairfield was 2-2 with a walk and 2 RBIs. After that first inning run, Micheal Joyce was dominant, going 5.2 innings and allowing just 2 hits total while striking out 5.
