Prep Baseball Report

Making the Most of These Unprecedented Times

Brett Harrison
Nevada Scouting Director

As baseball begins to open back up, our Nevada prospects have been traveling out of state to get a head start and look like they haven't skipped a beat. Utah, Arizona and states throughout the East Coast have opened back up for youth sports and some of the top players our state has to offer have made their way out to those events that are providing them the opportunity to play. This downtime is a prime time period for players to improve their game and early events will provide an opportunity for the the players who have been working hard to receive the positive exposure while they players who have not taken advantage of this time will be more likely to be exposed. Today, we feature three prospects that have taken advantage of their "down time" and have come out of the gates in top form with homeruns and velocity jumps to validate the work they have put in during this unprecedented time.

--

Uncommitted 2021 two-way prospect, Callan Hermansen, found his stroke early going deep in one of his first games back at an event in St. George, Utah. This is a prospect that currently sits as the #19 prospect in the state with his ability and upside both at the plate and on the mound and could see him make his way up the rankings if his game continues to come together. The son of former 1st round pick, Chad Hermansen, Cal possesses all of the tools to be a top prospect and this start to his summer proves he is on the right track become the prospect we expect he could be.

Hermansen homers to get his summer started

--

Kamdyn Perry has come out of the gates ready to go and has proven in his single outing at the LakePoint facility in the Emerson, Georgia that he has continued to progress in the velocity department during the "shut down". Throughout the Fall and in the high school preseason time period, he topped out at 85 mph while sitting 81-83 mph with his go-to pitch being a breaking ball while developing his changeup with Gorman pitching coach and 11 year Big Leaguer, Dave Riske. The changeup quickly turned into a potential plus pitch once he discovered the feel for the secondary pitch and now can pair that with his updated fastball velocity of 87 mph at the PBR Showdown tournament at LakePoint. Perry is currently the #4 ranked 2023 prospect in the state and with his consistent progression, he may end up reaching that 90 mph milestone by his sophomore season at Bishop Gorman with one, possibly two, potential plus pitches down the road.

Perry up to 87 mph at the PBR Showdown at LakePoint

--

As the #2 prospect in the state, Mason Neville has already proven his ability to play the game on both sides of the ball at a high level. The Arizona commit continues to show his hunger for the top spot in the state as he achieves a new best on the mound topping out at 88 mph on the mound while sitting 86-88 mph (verified by PBR Arizona Scouting Director, Brett Thorney). He pairs his fastball with a sweeping slider that sits around 69-71 mph. Neville has also stayed ready at the plate with "barrel consistency from a smooth left-handed stroke", feeding off of the hot start he was off to for Palo Verde hitting .400 in the shortened, four game season. He oozes confidence throughout his game and after a successful summer could see his name rise on the national radar and we will be there to cover it every step of the way.

2024-2025 RISING STARS SHOWCASE

The PBR Nevada Rising Stars Showcase is coming Wednesday, June 24th to Desert Oasis High School. The event is open to Class of 2024 & 2025 Prospects.

This event will have four main functions. For most participants, this will be their first showcase event - an initial step toward achieving a player’s baseball goals. Part of this event is educational. There will be a lecture about what scouts look for, how to comport themselves, what to expect in the recruiting process, and the overall landscape of playing at the next level. The second function of this event will be for players to create baseline numbers for themselves to improve. The third reason for this event is for PBR to have an in-depth look at the best young players and the future of the state.  The fourth function of the event is to identify players to represent Nevada at the PBR Junior Future Games held at LakePoint in Cartersville, GA.

PBR Junior Future Games Selection Process

The Junior Future Games Trials will be used to identify players to represent Nevada at the 2020 PBR Junior Future Games at LakePoint. The PBR Junior Future Games is national event that will take place July 29 - August 2 at LakePoint in Emerson, Georgia. The event will run in accordance with the PBR Future Games, which attracts over 300 college coaches from across the country.

The 2020 Junior Future Games will feature the best 2024 & 2025 prospects in the country. Players will participate in a pro-style workout and game-play during the duration of the event.
