OK Fall Upperclass Games: Left-Handed Pitcher Reports

PBR Oklahoma hosted the OK Fall Upperclass Prospect Games at The University of Central Oklahoma that featured 68 prospects from the 2022 and 2023 classes.  The event was highlighted by some impressive by both guys having recently committed, some that committed shortly after the event, as well as a few still looking to land a home at the next level.  Today we take a look at the 9 left handed pitchers the event with looks at their mechanics, arm actions, pitch shapes, and more.  You can view full stats and event details by clicking here.

 

Cody Banks, Broken Arrow  (OK), 2022 NOC Enid Commit
Positional Profile: LHP
Body: 6-3, 150-pounds. Long limbed and projectable frame.
Delivery: Short and simple footwork around the rubber working to an easy pivot foot.  Quick pace and rhythm to the delivery.  Works to a high balance point with a slight coil of the front shoulder and hips.  Slightly crouched posture with the upper body at the top of the delivery.  Tall and fall style motion down the mound.  Works from the far third base side of the rubber and strides directionally down the center of the mound with good momentum headed towards the plate.  Lands to a bent plant leg with chest over the front knee at release.
Arm Action: LH. 3/4 arm slot with a loose and clean arm action.
FB: T83.05, 80.70-82.39 mph. Heavy arm side run with good command to the arm side. T2209, 2046 average rpm.
SL: 73.29-74.96 mph. Tight shape and strong spin with late depth and life. T2480, 2432 average rpm.
CH: 78.5-78.6 mph. Good arm side fading action with fastball hand speed. T1925, 1925 average rpm.


Corbin Kwan, Oklahoma Christian (OK), 2023
Positional Profile: LHP/OF
Body: 5-11, 169-pounds. Lean and athletic build with room for added strength and size in the future.
Delivery: Slow and methodical rocker style footwork around the rubber.  Works to a high balance point with a slight stall out at the top of the delivery.  Hand breaks from the glove high around the chest with a quick pull back from the glove.  Works from the far third base side of the rubber and strides directionally slightly closed.  Short sink into the back leg with good push off the rubber.  Long stride down the slope into a slightly bent plant leg with heavy rotation of the body at release.  Has advanced balance throughout the delivery.
Arm Action: LH. High 3/4 arm slot with a short and quick arm action.
FB: T81.86, 79.69-81.41 mph. Arm side run with good sinking action. T1920, 1800 average rpm.
SL: 70.22-72.75 mph. Slurvy shape with early break and shows the ability to land in the zone. T2072, 2005 average rpm.
CH: 71.29-71.76 mph. Very good fading action and kills the spin efficiently.  Fastball hand speed with good sell. T1400, 1315 average rpm.


Jackson Califano, Piedmont  (OK), 2023
Positional Profile: LHP/1B
Body: 6-4, 200-pounds. Physical and mature frame with present strength.
Delivery: Short and simple footwork around the rubber working to an easy pivot foot.  Quick and uptempo pace to the delivery.  Hand breaks from the glove very early in the process and works to a high balance point.  Weight leans onto the back heel at the top of the balance point.  High glove front side with short coil of the shoulders and hips.  Short stride down the mound into a slightly bent plant leg.  Works from the third base side of the rubber and strides directionally down the center of the mound.
Arm Action: LH. Over the top arm slot with a short arm action.
FB: T81.65, 78.95-81.42 mph. Heavy tilting action at the bottom of the zone and good riding life through the top.  Also shows good arm side run. T2030, 1878 average rpm.
CB: 69.81-72.65 mph. Loopy shape with some depth to the bottom of the zone with developing spin. T1737, 1628 average rpm.
SL: 72.8-72.9 mph. Shorter shape with more of a cutting action.   T1669, 1669 average rpm.
CH: 72.2-74.3 mph. Mostly straight shape with some downward depth. T1603, 1590 average rpm.


Brandon Welch, Porter (OK), 2022
Positional Profile: LHP/1B
Body: 6-0, 185-pounds. Athletic build with room for added strength and size in the future.
Delivery: Step in front rocker style delivery with a slow and methodical pace.  Works to a mid height balance point with smooth rhythm and quiet hands.  Hands break from the glove cleanly at the top of the delivery.  Drop and drive motion down the slope with good push off the rubber.  Works from the third base side of the rubber and strides directionally down the center of the mound with good momentum headed towards the target.  Long stride down the slope with good extension.  Maintains balance and athleticism throughout the delivery.
Arm Action: LH. High 3/4 arm slot with a clean arm action.
FB: T80.91, 75.56-80.91 mph. Shows good riding life through the zone with good command. T1902, 1675 average rpm.
CB:  mph. Developing spin with good shape and shows some late depth.  Commands well to the glove side and down in the zone. T1517, 1517 average rpm.


Zane Nolan, Cascia Hall Prep (OK), 2022
Positional Profile: OF/LHP
Body: 6-1, 145-pounds. Long and lean build with room for added strength and size in the future.
Delivery: Short rocker style footwork around the rubber working to an easy pivot foot.  Quick pace and tempo to the delivery.  Works to a strong weight stack onto the back leg at the top of the delivery.  Hands work up and down with the lower half.  Drop and drive motion with a short push off the rubber into a bent plant. leg.  Works from the third base side of the rubber and strides slightly closed to the first base side of the mound creating tough angles on hitters.
Arm Action: LH. High 3/4 arm slot with a long and slightly stiff arm action.
FB: T77.41, 74.35-77.41 mph. Strong spin out of the hand with good riding life through the zone with mostly straight shape. T2243, 2123 average rpm.
CB: 65.63-72.77 mph. 12/6 shape with tight spin and shape.  Very short and sharp late depth to the bottom of the zone. T2245, 2083 average rpm.


Jared Mulvaney, Rogers (OK), 2023
Positional Profile: LHP/1B
Body: 6-3, 180-pounds. Long and projectable build with room for added strength in the future.
Delivery: Step in front footwork with a quick pace and tempo to the delivery.  Works to a high balance point with weight stacked onto the back leg.  Hands work up and down with the lower half and break from the glove at the waist.   Drop and drive motion down the mound with strong push off the rubber.  Long stride down the slope with good extension.  Hand works straight down out of the glove.  Works from the middle of the rubber and strides directionally down the center of the mound with good momentum headed to the plate.
Arm Action: LH. High 3/4 arm slot with a long and loose arm action.
FB: T77.26, 75.35-77.03 mph. Shows some arm side run with good life through the zone. T1978, 1794 average rpm.
CB: 66.81-67.58 mph. Sweeping shape with strong east/west action and good command. T1941, 1925 average rpm.


Lucas Lopez, Putnam City North (OK), 2023
Positional Profile: LHP
Body: 6-3, 220-pounds. Physical and mature frame.
Delivery: Rocker style footwork around the rubber with a slow and methodical pace.  Works to a mid height balance point with weight fully stacked onto back leg and leaned slightly onto back foot toe.  Hand breaks from the glove early in the delivery from chest height.  Works from the middle of the rubber and strides directionally down the center of the mound with a shorter stride.  Finishes with momentum heading towards the plate.
Arm Action: LH. High 3/4 arm slot with a slightly cupped wrist and shorter arm action.
FB: T75.6, 70.21-74.07 mph. Shows heavy arm side run at times with slight sink. T2087, 1950 average rpm.
CB: 61.85-64.29 mph. Sweeping shape with some east/west early break and feel for landing in the zone. T1978, 1948 average rpm.

 

Kamden Phillips, Deer Creek (OK), 2023
Positional Profile: LHP/1B
Body: 6-0, 180-pounds. Athletic and projectable build with room for added strength and size in the future.
Delivery: Short rocker style footwork around the rubber with a slow and methodical pace and tempo.  Works to a high balance point with posture leaning forward onto back foot toe.  Chest works down over the lead leg with good flexibility in the torso.  Short sink into the back leg with slight push off the rubber.  Works from the middle of the rubber and strides directionally down the center of the mound with good momentum headed towards the target.  Maintains balance and athleticism throughout the delivery.
Arm Action: LH. Low 3/4 arm slot with sidearm posture and loose arm action.
FB: T73.91, 72.38-73.89 mph. Heavy arm side run and sinking action. T1740, 1695 average rpm.
SL: 63.18-65.38 mph. Slurvy shape with early break and 9/3 shape. T1900, 1864 average rpm.
CH: 66.10-67.74 mph. Fastball hand speed with good downward fading action. T1603, 1595 average rpm.


Jacob Duree, Mustang (OK), 2023
Positional Profile: LHP/1B
Body: 5-10, 160-pounds. Lean and developing build with room for added strength and size in the future.
Delivery: Step in front rocker style footwork around the rubber with a methodical rhythm and tempo.  Works to a high balance point with heavy hip and shoulder coil.  Hands work up and down with the lower half and break from the glove quickly at the top of the zone high around the shoulder.  Works from the first base side of the rubber and strides directionally down the center of the mound.  shorter stride down the slope.  Short sink into the back leg with a short push off the rubber.
Arm Action: LH. High 3/4 arm slot with a short arm action.
FB: T72.16, 70.27-72.11 mph. Slight arm side run and sinking action. T1851, 1560 average rpm.
CB: 64.73-64.94 mph. Short break and shape with some downward depth. T1976, 1966 average rpm.
