After scouting all of our fall and winter events and fall games here in the Sooner State, it is time to take another look at and update the top 2020 class rankings. The OK 2020 Class is widely reguarded by professional scouts and colleges at one of the strongest classes in the country with close to 10 possible draft pics in its ranks. Since our last rendition, there has been a few players who have taken a big step forward to rise in the rankings. There have also been a few new athletes burst onto the scene in a big way, three of whom join the list in the top 50. The rankings now features 180 of the top 2020 players in the state. PBR compiles our rankings by scouting not only our events, but other events and games so that can compile the most complete and comprehensive rankings possible. We take into consideration each athletes president skill and physical ability, their short term projection, and their long term projection. Below, check out some of the top prospects, risers, and newcomers.

The Three Top Prospects

Maintaining the top spot in the Oklahoma rankings is Arkansas commit RHP/OF Nate Wholgemuth (Owasso HS, OK). Wohlgemuth is barrel chested and thick legged with impressive strength throughout his 5-foot-11, 200-pound frame. He has a controlled delivery that he is repeating more consistently with a fast arm and strong leg drive. His fastball sits 90-94 mph with occasional run, touching 95 and 96. He possesses a plus changeup with fade and sink at 80-84 that he throws with confidence in any count. His breaking ball has slurvy shape at 72-75 and flashes plus depth. Wohlgemuth has picked early this spring where he left off last summer throwing some big velos already in scrimmages. Offensively, his athleticism shows through with a 91 mph exit velo and a 6.72 laser timed 60. Defensively, he shows athletic actions in center field and excellent arm strength, throwing 95 mph from the outfield.

Remaining in the No. 2 slot is LHP Dax Fulton (Mustang HS, OK). The Vanderbilt recruit has a 6-foot-6, 205-pound frame that continues to get stronger and more athletic. Fulton shows off an impressive four-pitch mix, all thrown to both sides of the plate. His fastball sits 86-89 mph touching 90 with downhill tilt and occasional cut, and has been reported higher already in the early spring. Fulton also mixes in a two-seam fastball with late life. The curveball is, at times, one of the best breaking balls in the overall 2020 class at 73-79 mph with 1/7 shape and late depth to go along with tight spin. The changeup has late fade and sink at 73-75 mph. Fulton’s athleticism also shines through in the left-handed batters box where he shows pop and barrel control.

Sticking in the the No. 3 slot in this incredibly talented class is two-way baseball player and two sport star SS/RHP Cade Horton (Norman HS, OK). Horton has recently committed as a dual sport athlete to Oklahoma, siging up to throw the football for the Sooners as well as play baseball. On the mound Horton’s athleticism allows him to be a supreme strike thrower. The right-hander features possibly the best slider in the class which he throws in any count to both sides of the plate in the upper 70s with full arm speed and very late depth. His fastball keeps its plane at 90-92 and touched some 93s at this year’s Area Code Games. Horton is also a high end defender with advanced hands and the arm strength to make plays anywhere on the left-side of the infield, . At the plate, the right-handed hitter has an all fields and flat approach with a knack for finding barrels.

Risers

Over the last four months, a few players have shown impressive growth and have shot up the list. Below are a few of them.

Jack Jones, RHP/C, Bishop Kelley HS
Jones has a very lean 5-foot-9, 150-pound frame with lots of room to add size and strength. The junior rises nearly 50 spots due to a big jump in velo on the mound. The right-hander now sits 80-83 and touches 85 mph with his fastball, filling up the strike zone.  Jones also shows arm strength from behind the dish with near 2.00 second pop times. .

Landry Kyle, SS/RHP, Heritage Hall HS
A lean and projecetable 6-foot-3, 175-pound frame. The long infielder has continued to improve his hands, feet, and arm strength to rise 12 spots. He has also lowered his 60 time to a 6.93. Kyle also now  gets on the mound and sits 79-82 and touches 83 mph.

Grant Ewy, C/RHP, Moore HS
A proportional 6-foot, 160-pound fame, Ewy rises over 60 spots due to added arm strength. The right-hander now fills up the zone at 80-82 mph with a quick and fluid arm action that will allow him to continue to increase his velo. Also shows some arm strength from behind the dish with near 2.00 second pop times.

Newcomers

The PBR Oklahoma staff is always out on the lookout for talented players across the state, and we pride ourselves on constantly evaluating and discovering new players. Below are three new players that made impacts during the spring and summer.

Aaron Hosack, RHP, Ponca City HS
Hosack jumps into the top 50 of the rankings after commanding a fastball in the mid to upper 80s at the OK Preseasons All-State event. The right-hander has a  very long 6-foot-5, 211-pound frame with some strength and room to add more which will allow him to continue to add velo. For off-speed, Hosack shows a 12/6 curveball that he keeps in the bottom of the zone to go along with a slider and changeup.

Hayden Key, LHP/OF, Epic Charter School
Key has a lean and quick twitch 5-foot-11, 175-pound frame. The left-hander has elite footspeed (6.59 60) and arm strength (91 mph) from the outfield. His future may shine brightest on the mound though as he features a fastball at 82-84 mph commanded in the zone. He also flashes a plus curveball at 71-75 mph.

Caden Favors, LHP/1B, Carl Albert HS
Favors has a proportional 6-foot-2, 182-pound frame with room to add more size and strength. The left-hander is a capable position player with foot speed and arm strength, but Favors really stands out on the mound. The left-hander has a fluid and loose arm action with some are speed that produces a fastball that sits 82-84 mph in the strike zone.
