Oregon TOp Prospect Showcase

uncommitted 2021 Prospects

Michael Brannon 3B / OF / Lakeridge, OR / 2021

Big, strong and developed at 6-foot-2, 200 pounds. Brannon produced loud contact throughout BP and peaked with an exit velocity of 96 mph. Keeps it simple in the box. Staying tall throughout and creating easy leverage with his frame. Shows a consistent forward move with his lower half. High, lofted finish thru contact helps him elevate the ball. For a big bodied athlete, he moves well at the hot corner with steady, deliberate actions. Fields the ball on his glove side with momentum working into the throw. Keeps a soft glove hand while receiving. Full arm path into a low ¾ release. The size and power profile well to corner INF.

Aidan Bray OF / 1B / South Eugene , OR / 2021

Compact frame with strength throughout at 5-foot-8, 165 pounds. Took one of the more complete, professional rounds of BP on the day. Consistently found barrel and produced line drive, gap-to-gap contact. Short levers allow him to control the barrel and stay inside of the ball. Maintains a consistent tempo with his hitting actions. Worked out at both 1B and OF defensively. Quick, active footwork around the bag at 1st. Covers ground with short, choppy steps and has a quick exchange into throwing motion. In the OF, attacked the ball with confidence, using a crow-hop action to get momentum behind his throws.

Andrew Busche SS / 2B / Westview, OR / 2021

Proportional frame with a wide upper half. 5-foot-11, 175 with room for more strength. Hits from a crouched, athletic stance with lower half slightly open. Low, loose hand placement. Creates slight bat angle as he gets into forward stride. Hands work quick, direct to the ball with a high finish after contact. Displayed a consistent and reliable glove hand at SS during the defensive workout. Stayed balanced while on the move laterally. Keeps a wide base in his stance with slight hip hinge as he receives. Clean exchange into throwing motion. Arm stays short while working from a high release.

Nolan Helgerson LHP / OF / Portland Christian, OR / 2021

6-foot-2, 190 pounds with a mature frame and present strength. Handles the weight well and ran a 6.96 in the 60 on a grass track. Helgerson has shown consistent improvement over the last year in all categories across multiple events. The biggest jump came this month when his exit velocity peaked at 94 mph in BP. Stays tall at the plate with very few moving parts. Relies on quick hands and strength to generate his bat speed. Could tap into more power with additional extension thru the ball after contact. Defensively, corner OF could be an ideal spot with his running ability and size. Tracked the ball well during his defensive workout and showed improved arm strength up to 81 mph. Low ¾ release with a step behind shuffle to get into throwing motion. On the mound, maintained 81-83 on his FB throughout. Creates some deception in his arm path with a high takeaway and low ¾ slot. Short stride for his height with considerable extension out front at release. CB features sweeping action when thrown at its best while the CH features heavy life into the zone.

Casey Henderson 2B / SS / McMinnville , OR / 2021

5-foot-10, 170 pounds with an athletic, proportional build. Started off the day with a strong showing of 6.97 on the 60, one of the faster times we saw. At the plate, hits from a balanced set-up that uses a short, toe-tap landing. Hands stay loaded near back shoulder with a subtle move to create separation. Hits against a firm front leg with an uphill finish. Gets full rotation from lower half after contact. Athleticism translates to defensive as there’s some quickness in his footwork when he moves on the dirt. Keeps momentum going as he works into the ball, avoiding getting too flat-footed. Quick, easy exchange into compact arm action from ¾ release.

Adam Simshauser SS / 2B / West Linn, OR / 2021

5-foot-11, 165 pounds with a lean, proportional build between his upper and lower half. Simple, relaxed set-up in the box with upright posture. Widens out stance with a short forward stride. Hands work slightly back during forward move to create some stretch into landing. Barrel stayed inside of the ball throughout BP, showing consistent contact up the middle. Polished type of approach. Fluid actions defensively that should keep him on the dirt long term. Moves with a steady tempo when ranging laterally for the ball. Glove hand stays soft/relaxed. Clean exchange into arm action. ¾ release that produced accurate carry on the ball.

Jackson Young 2B / 3B / West Salem, OR / 2021

Mature build with a square upper half at 5-foot-11, 175 pounds. Present strength in frame. Narrow set-up in the box with slight bend at waist. Uses a controlled leg kick to gather weight back. Barrel stays tight/compact as he keeps flexion in his arms during his subtle scap load. Showed gap to gap type power in his BP, working mostly middle of the field. Defensively, starts with a wide base in his pre-pitch set up and showed a slight hop with his footwork prior to his first move. Mostly worked from ¾ arm slot but flashed ability to adjust release on double play feeds. Keeps feet active on exchange, used a glove tap for timing/rhythm. Stays behind the ball with his momentum through release.

Jared Norman 1B / 3B / Sunset , OR / 2021

Compact build at 5-foot-7, 176 pounds with balanced strength between upper and lower half. Simple, relaxed stance in the box. Starts tall/upright as barrel begins in a flat position just above rear shoulder. Takes a balanced forward stride as he shifts hands into stronger hitting position. Hands work easily and control the barrel throughout, allowing him to spray contact to all fields. Defensively, moved well around the bag at 1B. Handled all the routine plays during his workout and should be able to stick at the position long-term. Arm path works long to short, getting more compact as he gets to high ¾ release.
