After a very busy Spring where PBR OK was on hand for well over 100 games and a full summer of showcases, we take another look at the very talented and deep 2022 class. In a class where an argument could be made to shuffle the top 10 into almost any order, ranking them was very difficult as we took into consideration current skill level, current athleticism and strength, along with projectibility, not only in the short term, but in the long term as well. This rendition of the rankings sees our list expand from 60 to 85 players. Below is an in-depth look at the top 3 prospects in the class, the top newcomers, the top risers, and a look at the top 10.

Top 3 Prospects

One of the best young left-handers in the country, currently ranked in the top 30 overall, Kyndon Lovell (Lookeba-Sickles HS) rises into the top spot in the Oklahoma Class of 2022 Rankings. The 6-foot, 160-pound lean athlete uses a very short and quick arm action coming through a high-¾ slot with elite arm speed. Lovell is generally in the zone at 87-89 mph when fresh flashing some arm-side run. More impressive than the fastball velo is Lovell’s feel for an elite breaking ball at 75-76 mph with 1/7 shape, tight spin, and late depth, consistently in the zone. He also mixes in a solid changeup at 74-75 mph. Lovell most recently had success at the underclass Area Code games. Though he didn’t have his best stuff, he had success against some of the best young hitters in the country.

Ending his summer on a massive high note at the PBR Future Games, SS Jackson Holliday (Stillwater HS) jumps into the 2022 rankings in the second spot. The left-handed hitter had a strong year for Stillwater HS,  starting at SS as a freshman and helping them reach the 6A state tournament. He continued to develop throughout the summer as he added size and strength taking another big step forward. At the Future Games, Holliday showed with mechanics and results that he is one of the best left-handed hitters in his class, going 4-for-6 against some of the best uncommitted arms in the country with a double, three RBIs, two walks, and three stolen bases. One of the younger players in the class, Holliday has just started to put on size and strength with much more to come.

Filling the third spot in the very talented OK 2022 class is the physically advanced Oklahoma commit SS/RHP Caden Powell (Clinton HS). An impressively strong 6-foot-3, 200-pound frame, the right-handed hitter already shows one of the top exit velos in the state of any class, 95 mph, with enough barrel control to turn it in to elite level production. At the OK Preseason All-State Showcase, Powell produced the most impressive round of BP with nearly every ball finding the back of the cage on a line headed for the gaps. Defensively, Powell will likely have to move to third base or first base as he continues to develop with size and strength, but will likely have the hands and arm strength to stay on the infield. Though more currently advanced with the bat, Powell’s size and arm strength serves him well on the mound as well. Powell has shown the ability to command the strike zone, reportedly up to 86 mph.

Newcomers

The PBR Oklahoma staff is always out on the lookout for talented players across the state, and we pride ourselves on constantly evaluating and discovering new players. Below are three new players that made impacts during the spring and summer.

Jackson Holliday (See Above)

Connor Goodson, RHP/3B, Norman HS
A very lean and projectable 6-foot-2, 170-pound frame with athleticism. The right-hander ranges 82-86 mph on the mound with some deception in his delivery. Goodson shows a knack for getting outs as he threw up 0s at the OK Summer Underclass Games and the PBR Futures Games. As he continues to clean up his delivery, Goodson could make a big jump in velo in the near future.

Cole Deason, RHP/SS, Owasso HS
A very lean and projectable 6-foot, 160-pound frame, Deason's future currently looks to be on the mound. The right-hander sat 78-82 at the Sandlot Showcase earlier this summer and was up to 84. With a clean, quick, and loose arm, there is much more velo to come.

Miles Lock, SS, Deer Creek HS
Lock is a skilled infielder with clean actions and a mechanically sound swing from the right side. A  developing 5-foot-8, 140-pound frame, Lock will take another jump forward as he adds size and strength.

Risers

Over the last six months, a few players have shown impressive growth and have shot up the list. Below are a few of them.

Kyndon Lovell (See Above)

Kade Shatwell, RHP, Tuttle HS
The right-hander has jumped 30 spots in the rankings thanks to a steady rise in velo, topping out at 89 mph at the Future Games at the end of the summer. A very lean and projectable 6-foot-2, 155-pound frame with much more room to add size and strength.

Parker Coil, LHP, Edmond Memorial HS
A very projectable 6-foot-2, 165-pound frame, Coil rises 16 spots after not only adding 6 mph to his fastball since December, but he continues to show elite command over all three offerings. Coil ended his summer by punching out six batters in the PBR Future Games against Team Texas, working around an error on the only ball put in play. It is very likely that Coil continues to climb the rankings if he stays on his current track.
