PBR FL Limited Series: Preview No. 3

PBR Florida Staff

On Friday, PBR Florida will be hosting its first annual Limited Series tournament, held from Friday, June 1 through Sunday, June 3. The Limited Series was created to give teams a platform to play in an exceedingly competitive atmosphere in a tournament setting that will allow their players greater visibility within a smaller setting, all taking place at IMG Academy.

Each game will be thoroughly promoted and scouted by both the national and state directors on our PBR staff – and teams will play four games each at minimum. In an endeavor to establish more exposure for teams and players, our staff will provide roster packets and information for all attending college and professional scouts, as well as generate pre- and post-event content. And, as always, we’ll be updating our Scout Blog throughout the tournament where we will write reports on the participating players and overall game recaps.

Today, we’ll continue our pre-tournament coverage by highlighting some potential standouts in this next group of six teams invited.

CBC ELITE

Coming from San Juan, Puerto Rico, CBC Elite will be attending Limited Series armed with talent. Two middle infielders to keep an eye on are the 2019 prospect Keniel De Leon (Central Pointe Christian Academy; uncommitted) and the 2018 graduate Miguel Soto (TNXL Academy; Arkansas-Little Rock). We’ve seen both players a handful of times and each were ProCase participants – Soto attended last year and De Leon was at this month’s event. The two are also nationally ranked and are within Florida’s top 60 within their respective classes. De Leon recently impressed us at the showcase and earned a spot among the day’s top infielders. We saw Soto at Preseason All-State in January and again in February and he’s continued to improve, so we’ll see how he’s progressed following his senior season.

FTB TUCCI 17U

Florida Travel Baseball’s 17U Tucci team also serves as a San Francisco Giants Scout Team. The Orlando-area program is bringing with it one of the best rosters attending Limited Series that includes some of the most highly touted players in the nation. Riley Greene (Hagerty; Florida), for example, is the top-ranked outfielder nationwide and Florida’s No. 2-ranked 2019 prospect. He’s proven to be one of the top hitters in the country within his class. Jacob Herbert (George W. Jenkins; Florida) has established himself as the No. 5-ranked 2019 catcher in the nation. Hylan Hall (TNXL Academy) is another Florida-committed 2019 prospect who’s also ranked No. 126 in the country. Kevin Martin (St. Brendan; Florida) is the state’s top-ranked first baseman, ranked No. 8 in the country, too. C Maxwell Romero, Jr. (Pembroke Pines Charter) is a Vanderbilt commit that we just saw at this month’s ProCase. Ben Gilbert (Lake Wales; Mississippi) is a top-50 Florida 2019, ranked as the No. 35 outfielder prospect in the nation. Miami-commit Carson Palmquist (Riverdale) is the No. 11-ranked left-handed pitcher nationwide.

That’s really only a glimpse at who they’ll be filling out their lineups with. It doesn’t include the numerous in-state top-100 prospects who are also on the roster.

OSTINGERS BASEBALL ACADEMY 17U

Ostingers Baseball Academy, based out of Lithia, is full of top-100 Florida prospects. Brock Wilken (Bloomingdale), the uncommitted 2020, might be the team’s most notable. He’s a third baseman/catcher who’s ranked as the No. 66 prospect in the state within his class. RHP Cole Stallings (Newsome; Stetson) ranks right behind him on the 2020 board at No. 68, and the No. 12-ranked right-handed pitcher. They’re joined by two uncommitted 2019 prospects Bryce Hazzard (Bloomingdale) and Nico Saladino (Bloomingdale); both of whom are near the top-100 within their state’s rankings. There are a number of other players on this roster who might also make a name for themselves at Limited Series.

OSTINGERS BASEBALL ACADEMY 2020

Ostingers’ second team at Limited Series will be participating in the 16U tournament, and has quite a few of Florida’s top-100 2020 prospects along for the ride. Ahmad Fitts (Durant; uncommitted) is his state class’ No. 69-ranked prospect, and the No. 12-ranked outfielder – his extreme athleticism separates him from the pack. Right behind him on the top-100 ranks is SS Joseph Casale (Jesuit; uncommitted), ranked No. 70 on the board. Malachi Woodside (Jesuit; uncommitted) marks the third top-100 2020, ranked as the No. 89 prospect, No. 8 at his position. Finally, OF Tyler Donay (Lakeland Christian; uncommitted) is the fourth top-100 member of this roster, ranked No. 86 in the state’s class. Other prospects of note are LHP Ethan Jones (Wesley Chapel; uncommitted) and SS Zach Devito (Newsome; uncommitted).

TOP TIER ROOS AMERICAN 2019

There will be two Top Tier representing teams at Limited Series: American and National. The American roster includes the Mink brothers, Tanner (Palm Harbor University; South Florida) and Hunter (Palm Harbor University; Florida). Tanner is the state’s top-ranked 2019 at second base while Hunter has etched a spot on the national ranks as a right-handed pitcher, ranked No. 49 nationally at the position. Hunter will be pitching to battery mate Jackson Miller (J.W. Mitchell; Wake Forest), the country’s top-ranked 2020 catching prospect, and a top-20 overall prospect in the class. Derek Crum (Gaither; uncommitted) has also gathered some national acclaim, ranked as the No. 21 outfielder in the nation within his 2019 class – he’s the highest-ranked player in his state's class without a commitment. Dawson Place (Sunlake) and Cosi Scinta (J.P. Taravella) are two other top-150 Florida prospects who are also uncommitted 2019s.

TOP TIER ROOS NATIONAL 2019

Top Tier’s other Tampa-area team is its National roster, led by Ryan Andrews (Steinbrenner; uncommitted) and Jordan Daphney (Countryside; uncommitted). This team might not carry the same top-level prospect weight, but it’s comprised of plenty of talent that will be seeking opportunities to play at the next level. Daphney represents the team’s sole top-100 prospect within the state. He’s the no. 5-ranked first baseman in his 2020 state class. Andrews is a projectable outfielder with room to grow. His label as a prospect who will be interesting to follow moving forward sums up many members of Top Tier’s National roster.
