Oklahoma Player of the Week

It has been an unbelievable start to the spring season with talented players putting up impressive numbers at every level. For this week's edition, we will be looking at stats compiled from March 3rd-9th. On a week where there were an overwhelming number of deserving candidates (seriously, check out all the honorable mentions), it was Heritage Hall’s Carson Orton who edged out the competition with outstanding numbers on both sides of the ball.

Carson Orton RHP / 1B / Heritage Hall, OK / 2018

The Cowley College commit put up big numbers on both sides of the ball this week, On the mound the right-hander went 2-0 with  17 strikeouts and no earned runs through 11.2 innings pitched. At the plate, Orton was 8-for-13 with three home runs, three doubles, seven RBI's, and two stolen bases. The two-way standout has helped his team to a 5-0 start.

6A

Mason Carrier OF / 1B / Edmond North, OK / 2018

The left-handed swinging Cowley College commit was 9-for-13 at the plate last week with three doubles, four RBI’s and five runs scored. He also pitched 2.2 innings, striking out five and did not allow a run.

5A
We at PBR OK do not like ties, but we couldn't rightfully find separation between Bo Duren's no-hit performance on the mound and Rhett Kouba's extra-base barrage this week. 

Roman Duren Jr. LHP / OF / Carl Albert, OK / 2019

The 5-foot-10, 185-pound uncommitted left-hander tosses a no-hitter against a 6A opponent, striking out eight and walking three. 


Rhett Kouba RHP / SS / El Reno, OK / 2018

El Reno's ace stepped up with the bat this week. The 6-foot-1, 165-pound uncommitted senior right-handed hitter went 5-for-6 with three doubles two triples six RBI’s, five runs scored, and drew two walks in two games last week.

3A
Hunter Hiler, P, Eufaula HS, 2018
A 6'0" 190 frame and Uncommitted. The senior went 3-0 on mound,all three appearances in relief, and posted a 0.92 ERA with 14 strikeouts in 7.2  innings. At the dish, Hiler  batted .429 with a .786 slugging percentage and a .571 on base percentage 12 runs scored in six games.

Kaden Kirby, RHP/3B, Oklahoma Christian Academy (Harding College)
A 6'1" 175 Kaden helped lead the OCA Eagles to a win over Cashion and the Crescent Tournament Title. At the plate, Kirby hit .636 with one triple, one double, three RBI's, seven stolen bases, and eight runs scored.On the mound, Kirby got the win versus Crossings by tossing a complete game shoutout, giving up just three hits and one walk while recording 13 K's.

Jett Carver, SS, Leflore, 2020
The right-handed hitting shortstop went 3-for-4 at the plate last week with a .750 batting average. Carver posted a single, a double, and a home run. The home run was the game winning hit/run to beat Pocola in the 7th and gave him four RBI’s on the day. Carver also closed the game out on the mound against Pocola where he pitched 2-innings, faced eight batters, struck out four, give up only one hit, walked one batter, and give up no runs.

Honorable Mentions

Carter Dobrinski SS / RHP / Bristow, OK / 2018

 The Oral Roberts commit stands 6-foot-1, 190-pounds with some strength. In two games last week, Dobrinski was 5-for-6  with a double, triple, and a home run for a batting average of .850. The right-hander also pitched five innings of one hit baseball striking out 10. Dobrinski narrowly missed being named class 4A and overall player of the week this week.  


Hunter Freese LHP / OF / Deer Creek , OK / 2018

The Kansas commit was outstanding on the mound last week, going 2-0 with nine innings pitched, allowing one run on thee hits and two walks while striking out 13 for a 0.78 ERA. Freese also contributed as a hitter contributed at the plate as well batting .300 with 2 RBIs and a stolen base.  


Carter LaValley SS / 2B / Carl Albert , OK / 2019

A 5-foot-11, 185-pound frame with strength and athleticism. The left-handed hitter batted .444 for the week.


Joshua Lewis SS / Roff, OK / 2018

The 5-foot-10, 160-pound senior switch-hitter was 8-for-14 on the week. He had four doubles and a HR with five RBIs. He has signed with Seminole State.

 


Drew Miller 2B / 1B / Pryor, OK / 2018

The recent Central Oklahoma commit stats 6-foot-1, 175-pounds. Through the first six games of the year, Miller is batting .500 going 7-for-14 with four doubles, two home runs, six RBIs, nine runs scored, and nine stolen bases 

 


Payton Miller C / RHP / Yukon, OK / 2019

The uncommitted junior stands 6-foot-2, 240-pounds. At the dish, the right-handed hitter went 5-for-10 with three doubles and three RBIs last week. On the mound, the hard throwing right-hander earned a win allowing three earned runs over five innings. 


Lane Porter 3B / 2B / Carl Albert, OK / 2018

The uncommitted senior infielder stands 5-foot-10, 160-pounds. The right-handed hitter batted .571 for the week.


Nick Sizemore C / OF / Pryor, OK / 2019

A 5-foot-9, 165-pound frame with room to add size and sterngth. Sizemore went 4-for-8 on the week with two doubles, a home run, six RBI's and seven runs scored. 

 

Bentley Bills, RHP/INF, Tupelo, 2021
A 6-foot, 145-pound frame. Bills batted .444 on the week with three RBI’s. The right-handed also stood out on the mound for Tupelo punching out seven in six innings, earning the win.

Dawson Brooks, 3B, Duke, 2020
Brooks stood out on both sides of the ball, going 2-for-3 with a double, and two RBIs at the plate, while tossing a two innings save on the mound against #14 Blair.

Hayden Brown, RHP, Duke HS, 2018
The senior right-handed threw five solid innings against #14 Blair this week, striking out five and allowing only one unearned run. 

Jake Estes, C/INF/RHP Carl Albert HS, 2020
The right-handed hitter went 6-for-10 at the plate on the week.

Brandon Heath, RHP, Carl Albert HS, 2018
A 6-foot-4 frame with room to add size and strength. Heath went 8.1 innings in relief on the week and did not allow a run. 

Drew Janvrin, OF, Yukon HS, 2019
A 6-foot-2, 160-pound outfielder was 5-for-11, with a double, home run, eight RBIs and six runs scored on the week.

Jake Percival, RHP, Calumet HS, 2020
A 5-foot-9, 155-pound frame. Percival twirled a gem in his first outing of the year where he struck out 18 and had one walk leading Calumet to a  7-3 win over the Central High Broncos.

 Josh Sanders, RHP, Yukon, 2020
A 6-foot-2, 150-pound frame with plenty of room to add size and strength. In his first varsity start, the right-hander earned the win tossing five innings, allowing two hits and two walks, while striking out three and not surrendering a run.
