Player Analysis From June 11th's All-State Prospect ID Showcase

A total of 47 players from across the state participated in the June 11th All-State Prospect ID Showcase at Grand Park in Westfield, IN. Below, we analyze each player.

In Alphabetical order by 1st Name

Aaron Augustus, OF, Lawrence Central HS, 2015: 6-foot, 180 pound outfielder ran a 7.16 60 and was 73 from the OF.  Arm action is long and loose with good accuracy, but lacks strength.  Moves well  with soft hands and clean exchange.  Above average defender.  Offensively hits from a balanced setup with a smooth load.  Stride is short and displayed above average bat speed.  Line drive type hitter with fluid rhythm.  Showcased some pull side power potential. 

Aaron House, RHP, Hamilton Heights HS, 2016: 6-foot-3, 185 pound righty possesses an athletic, projectable frame.  Arm speed is average with a short arm action.  Pitches from a high ¾ slot. Easy effort.  Good direction and lands square.  Fastball topped out at 79 with downward movement.  11/5 shaped 68-70 mph breaking ball showed late action while the 74-76 mph changeup showed good sink action. 

Adam Carr, C/3B, Pendleton Heights HS, 2017: 5-foot-9, 190 pound catcher was 63 mph from the crouch and registered pop times between 2.39-2.60.  Currently shows raw actions behind the plate.  Across the diamond from 3B was also 63 mph from an over the top slot.  At the plate starts open and uses a short stride.  Good balance throughout.  Bat drags through the zone.  Lacks overall strength, but should continue to improve as he matures. 

Adisyn Coffey, SS/RHP, Delta HS, 2017: 5-foot-11, 140 pounder ran a 7.45 60. Continues to improve his overall athleticism each time we see him.  Across the diamond was 74 mph.  Possesses soft hands with fluid feet and clan exchange.  Plays through the baseball with athleticism.  On the mound pitches from a ¾ slot with above average arm speed.  Smooth rhythm with good direction in his delivery.  Finishes athletic.  Fastball was up to 78 with the ability to keep down in the zone.  Breaking ball showed a 12/6 shape and thrown for a strike at 58-62.  Slows arm down when throwing the breaking ball.  Changeup was 64-66 with some sink and thrown near FB arm speed.  Threw all three pitches for a strike.

Andrew Lawvere, C, Eastbrook HS, 2017: 5-foot-10, 187 pound catcher possesses a quick arm and was 73 from the crouch.  Popped a 1.97 at the event.  Sets up high with a low glove.  Offensively possesses quick hands and bat speed.  Stride is short and gets good use of the lower half.  Swing can get long at times, but does get to extension.  Projectable power for a 2017. Needs to mechanically clean up at the plate.  At 3B was 78 across the diamond with above average hands.   Good follow in the 2017 class. 

Arian Coffey, 3B/RHP, Delta HS, 2016: 6-foot-3, 150 pound 3B ran a 7.70 60 and was 72 across the infield.  Shows some flash defensively.  Possesses above average hands.  Needs to increase foot speed.  Exchange is slow.  Offensively starts open.  Load is smooth and uses a short stride.  Good balance throughout.  Lower half lacks involvement.  Bat speed is average. Good overall approach to the ball.  Swing path is level and displayed fluid rhythm.  Pull side type hitter.

Austin Flinn, OF/2B/MIF, Cathedral HS, 2017: 5-foot-10, 150 pounder was 70 mph from the OF and 69 across the diamond from short.  From the OF uses a long arm action from a ¾ slot.  Currently possesses slow actions, but should improve as he matures and gets stronger.  Mechanically sound.  Offensively starts tall with a long stride.  Lower half tends to collapse.  Swing path is long.   

Avery Itamura, C, Lawrence Central HS, 2016: 5-foot-7, 165 pound catcher uses a low set up behind the plate.  Quiet receiver with good instincts.  Pop times ranged from 2.15-2.26 and was 71 mph from the crouch.  Offensively, uses a simple approach with a long stride.  Possesses above average bat speed and gets to extension finishing one handed.  Good balance throughout with good rhythm.  Line drive type hitter.

Ben Robison, C, Whiteland HS, 2016: 6-foot-4, 170 pound catcher ran a 7.25 and was 71 from the crouch.  Pop times were between 2.30-2.36.  Raw actions behind the plate.  Offensively this from a balanced setup.  Wraps the bat during his load.  Stride is short with some use of the lower half.  Lacks premium bat speed.  Swing path is long. 

Brandt Nowaskie, SS.OF, Vincennes Lincoln HS, 2015: 6-foot, 180 pounder ran a 6.97 60.  Possesses twitch and football type actions.  From the OF was 84 mph and in the INF 82.  Defensively hands are average in both the OF and INF.  Feet are quick and fluid in the OF.  Good carry on his throws from the OF.  Showcased some rawness with his overall defensive actions.  In the INF needs to improve footwork.  At the plate this from a balanced setup.  Tends to wrap his bat during the load.  Strides short with good use of the lower half.  Bat speed is quick and gets to extension.  Possesses pull side power.  Shows some stiffness throughout the swing. 

Braxton Savage, SS/RHP, Shelbyville HS, 2015: 5-foot-11, 170 pounder ran a 7.32 60 and was 77 across the diamond.  Possesses average hands and feet.  At the plate starts open, loads back.  Stride is short.  Bat speed is average with a long path to the ball.  Pull side hitter.  On the mound was up to 80 with the fastball.  Slider shows a 10/4 shape with early action, but inconsistent.  Changeup shows slight sink action.  Pitches from a ¾ slot with average arm speed.  Rhythm is smooth with good direction.  Lands open. 

Braydon Smith, OF, Shelbyville HS, 2015: 5-foot-11, 160 pound outfielder ran a 7.91 60.  From the OF was 76 mph from a long arm action and high ¾ slot.  Fields the ball deep with average hands.  Needs to work on gaining momentum on his throws from the OF.  Offensively hits from a crouch.  Stride is short.  Drops hands during load with a bat wrap.  Long path to the baseball.  Average balance throughout the swing. 

Christian McGill, OF, Hamilton Heights HS, 2016: 5-foot-10, 165 pound outfielder ran a 6.88 60 and was 83 from the OF.  Shows a pause at the bottom of arm motion.  Throws from a ¾ slot.  Hands are above average with fluid feet.  Exchange is clean.  Displays athleticism and plays through the baseball.  Offensively hits from a balanced setup with smooth load.  Stride is short , at times will dive.  Good balance throughout.  Has quick bat speed with a level path.  Gets to extension.  Fluid rhythm, line drive type hitter.

Clay Farren, SS/2B/MIF, Brebeuf HS, 2016: 6-foot, 170 pound infielder possesses a strong, athletic frame.  Ran a 7.25 60 and was 76 across the infield.  Possesses above average hands with fluid feet.  Exchange is clean.  At the plate hits from a balanced setup.  Load is smooth with a long stride.  Good use of the lower half and displayed good balance.  Quick bat speed with fluid rhythm.  Gets to extension.  Showcased pull side power. 

Colin Phelps, OF/LHP, Shelbyville HS, 2015: 5-foot-10, 180 pounder ran a 7.34 60 and was 80 from the OF.  Throws from a ¾ slot with good accuracy and carry.  Possesses soft hands with fluid feet.  On the mound pitches from a high ¾ slot with average arm speed.  Shows a wrap in his arm action.  Good direction to the plate, tends to fall off when he finishes.  Inward turn with his front leg. Fastball sat 76-80.  Changeup was 67-68.  Knuckle ball was 59-63.

Conner McKenzie, 2B/MIF, Franklin Central HS, 2015: 5-foot-11, 170 pound infielder ran a 7.25 60 and was 71 across the diamond.  Showcased a quick release from a low ¾ slot.  Hands are average.  Needs to improve his footwork and quickness.  Exchange is clean.  Offensively starts open with little to no load.  Stride is short with good balance.  Bat speed is average with a level swing path.  Choppy rhythm.  Line drive type hitter.

Damon Maynard, C/OF, Greenwood HS, 2017: 5-foot-9, 155 pound catcher showcased solid actions behind the plate for a 2017.  Needs to continue to improve receiving ability and agility, but should come along as he matures.  Pop times ranged from 2.01-2.19 and was 72 from the crouch.  From the OF possesses some arm strength at 81 mph with carry and a loose arm action.  Moves well with a clean exchange, but has a tendency to pack. Showcased soft hands.  Offensively starts wide.  Lots of movement , 2-part swing.  Good balance throughout with an uphill swing path. 

Dontre Graves, OF, Ben Davis HS, 2015: 5-foot-11, 170 pound outfielder ran a 7.25 60 and was 74 from the OF. Possesses some twitch in his arm, but lacks strength.  Hands are average.  Footwork is fluid. Exchange is slow.  Offensively starts balanced. Stride is short with some use of the lowe half.  Bat speed is average.  Good approach.  Swing path is long and displays early rhythm.  Pull slide hitter. Hits off front side. 

Doug Berger, 2B/MIF/RHP, Greenfield Central HS, 2015: 6-foot, 160 pounder ran a 7.08 60 and was 74 across the infield.  Frame is long and lean.  Showcased average hands with some twitch.  Good body control.  Tends to field the ball deep.  Feet need to get quicker.  On the mound pitches from a ¾ slot.  Drop and drive type delivery.  Fastball sat 75-78.  Changeup was 68-72.  Slows arm down when throwing his off-speed pitches and is erratic in the zone. 

Evan Conner, 3B/RHP, Sullivan HS, 2017: 6-foot, 180 pounder ran a 7.37 60 and was 71 across the infield from a long arm action.  Overall defensive actions were average, needs to improve foot speed.  Offensively hits from a balanced/athletic setup.  Load is smooth and uses a short stride.  Average balance throughout the swing.  Gets to extension, pull side hitter.  On the mound pitches from a ¾ slot with good arm speed.  Arm action is short.  Tall to fall type delivery with smooth rhythm.  Good direction to the plate and lands square.  Fastball was up to 76 with some run.  Breaking ball sat 56-60 while the changeup was 66-68.  Slows arm down when throwing off-speed pitches.  Solid upside for a 2017.

Hunter Kraynak, RHP, Portage HS, 2015: 6-foot-5, 235 pound righty possesses a big frame with wide shoulders.  Displayed average arm speed from a long arm action.  Easy effort from a tall to fall type delivery.  Lands hard and falls off at the finish.  Fastball was up to 77.  Breaking ball was 68.  Threw a 66-69 mph splitter. 

Hunter Warthan, RHP, Bloomington South HS, 2016: 5-foot-7, 155 pound righty pitches from a ¾ arm slot with good arm speed.  Arm action is short.  Showed good rhythm and direction in his delivery.  Shows athleticism.  Fastball sat 71-72.  Breaking ball was erratic in the zone at 64-65.  Changeup sits 66-68 with near FB arm speed and some sink action.

Isaac Beaty, OF/1B/RHP, Oak Hill HS, 2016: 6-foot-3, 195 pounder possesses a big, strong frame with some athleticism.  Ran a 7.51 60 and was 81 from the OF and 82 across the diamond.  Defensively showcased average hands with fluid feet.  Exchange is clean, but slow.  Offensively starts from a balanced approach and loads back.  Stride is short and gets good use of his lower half.  Bat speed is quick with a level path to the baseball.  Pull side power with occasional HR power.  On the mound pitches from a ¾ slot with average arm speed.  Tall to fall type delivery with some rhythm.  Lands open.  Fastball was up to 81 and kept down in the zone.  Curveball sat 58-61 while the changeup was 69-70. 

Isaiah Shake, OF, Bloomington South HS, 2016: 5-foot-11, 165 pound outfielder possesses an athletic frame.  Ran a 6.70 60 and was 80 from the OF.  Possesses some twitch in his arm.  Moves well with average hands defensively.  At the plate showcased quick bat speed with good approach.  Load is smooth, uses a toe tap.  Good use of lower half.  Short and quick to the baseball while getting to extension.  Line drive hitter with gap to gap power.  Good rhythm throughout .

Jack Phillips, RHP/3B, Cathedral HS, 2017: 6-foot-5, 180 pound righty possesses a long, lean frame.  Pitches from a ¾ slot with quick arm speed.  Arm action is short.  Showcased good direction and lands square.  The fastball was up to 78 with some run.  11/5 breaking ball was 61-65 with late break.  Changeup sat 70-71 with some fade.  Across the diamond was 75 mph.  Offensively starts open and loads back.  Stride is short with good use of the lower half.  Bat speed is average with a long path to the ball.  Late rhythm.  Projects more on the mound. 

Jake Lane, RHP, Zionsville HS, 2015: 5-foot-11, 160 pound righty was up to 84 with his fastball and thrown consistently for a strike.  Throws two types of breaking balls; 68-71 mph curveball and a 73-74 mph slider; both still need developed.  Threw a plus changeup at 71-72 with arm side run and thrown near fastball arm speed.  Pitches from a high ¾ slot with quick arm speed.  Tall to fall type delivery with regular effort.  Falls towards 1B side and lands closed. 

Jimmy Kizer, C, Ben Davis HS, 2016: 6-foot-1, 175 pound catcher possesses a projectable frame. Was 2.12-2.17 with his pop times.  From the crouch was 70 mph.  Exchange is clean, but arm action is long. Needs to improve his mobility behind the plate.  At the plate starts in a balanced setup with little to no stride.  Bat speed is average.  Pull side type hitter. 

Joe Rowe, OF, Connersville HS, 2016: 6-foot-1, 160 pound  outfielder ran a 7.07 60 and was 75 from the OF.  Arm action is long and throws from a high ¾ slot.  Hands are soft with fluid footwork.  Exchange is clean and plays through the baseball with athleticism.  At the plate drops hands during the load.  Stride is short with average balance throughout the swing.  Lacks premium bat speed.  Swing path is uphill.  Pull side hitter. 

Jordan Kyriakopoulos, 2B/MIF, Sheridan HS, 2015: 5-foot-9, 165 pounder ran a 7.18 60 and was 67 across the diamond.  Showcased average hands defensively with fluid feet and clean exchange.  Projects as a 2B.  Offensively hits from both sides of the plate from a balanced setup with small load.  Stride is short with some use of the lower half.  Good balance throughout.  Bat speed is average with long swing path.  Rolls over.  Pull side hitter.  Showed more power from the left side.

Jordan May, RHP/OF, New Castle HS, 2016: 6-foot-2, 160 pounder ran a 7.32 60 and was 78 from the OF with some accuracy.  Hands are average defensively.  Needs to improve footwork and foot speed.  At the plate starts with an athletic setup.  No load, short stride.  Average balance throughout.  Lacks premium bat speed.  Swing path is long.  Opposite field type hitter.  On the mound pitches from a ¾ slot with good arm speed.  Arm action is long.  Tall to fall type delivery.  Good direction to the plate, lands square.  Fastball was up to 78 and in the zone.  Breaking ball was 65-68 while the changeup sat 69-71.  Change shows some fade and sink and was thrown with near FB arm speed. 

Kyle Weiss, OF/LHP, Columbus East HS, 2016: 5-foot-9, 170 pounder ran a 7.18 60 and was 77 from the OF.  Defensively possesses average hands with a slow exchange.  Showcased above average feet.  Throws showed good carry and accuracy.  At the plate starts open with a smooth load back.  Swing plane is uphill, finishes high.   On the mound the lefty  was 73-76 with his fastball, consistently in the zone.  Breaking ball was 63-64 with gradual break.  Changeup sat 62-67 with some fade.  Pitches from a high ¾ slot with average arm speed.  Good direction to the plate. 

Matthew Jackson, C/MIF, Charles A. Tindley HS, 2015: 6-foot, 153 pound catcher was 2.70-2.95 with his pop times.  From the crouch was 63 mph.  Across the diamond was 64 mph.  Offensively starts open.  Uses a long swing path.

Mason Rapp, C/1B, Mt. Vernon HS (Fortville), 2015: 5-foot-9, 225 pound catcher was 60 mph from the crouch. Registered pop times of 2.40-2.48.  Across the diamond at 1B was 72 mph.  Possesses average hands at 1B.  Needs to improve foot speed.  Offensively hits from a crouch setup and drops during his load. Uses a leg kick.  Showcased average bat speed with a long, uphill path.  Showcased some pull-side power. 

Mitch Howie, C/1B, Hamilton Heights HS, 2016: 6-foot, 175 pound catcher possesses a strong, athletic frame.  Sets up high.  Average receiver.  Showed the ability to block well.  From the crouch was 72 mph and registered pop times between 2.01-2.12.  At the plate starts slightly open and uses a short stride.  Shows some choppiness.  Bat speed is average and on a level plane.  Displays some pull side power .  Across the diamond from 3B was 74 mph. 

Mitchell Garrity, OF/LHP, Perry Meridian HS, 2016: 5-foot-11, 175 pounder ran a 6.81 60 and was 83 from the OF.  Arm action is long and throws from a high ¾ slot with accuracy.  Showcased good actions defensively with soft hands.  Feet are quick and fluid.  Exchange is quick and clean.  Good athleticism and plays through the baseball.  Offensively starts in a balanced setup with a smooth load.  Stride is short with quick bat speed.  Possesses gap to gap power with fluid rhythm.  On the mound the lefty was up to 83 with his fastball with some cut.  Curveball was thrown for a strike with gradual movement.  Slider sits 66-67. Pitches from a ¾ slot with a quick, loose arm action.  Good direction to the plate with athletic finish.  Regular effort. 

Nick Wright, RHP, Bloomington South HS, 2016: 6-foot, 205 pound righty pitches from a ¾ slot with good arm speed.  Arm action is long and shows a stab on the backside.  Smooth rhythm in the delivery with good direction.  Finishes athletic.  Fastball was up to 79 with little movement.  Breaking ball was 60-61 while the changeup sat 61-62.  Possesses a strong frame. 

Nick Etter, RHP, Zionsville HS, 2015: 6-foot-1, 175 pound righty pitches from a  ¾ slot with average arm speed.  Slight stab on the backside.  Drop and drive type delivery, high leg kick.  Good direction and lands square.  Fastball was up to 80 mph with run.  Breaking ball was erratic in the zone at 71-72.  Changeup was 70-73 with some sink. 

Payton Mattingly, 3B, Southridge HS, 2016: 6-foot-3, 190 pounder possesses  a strong, athletic frame.  Ran a 7.68 60 and was 74 across the diamond while using a long arm action.  Hands are soft.  Needs to improve footwork and quicken his exchange.  Offensively starts open with a smooth load.  Stride is short and gets good use of his lower half.  Bat speed is above average.  Gets to extension producing some gap to gap power.

Riley Stesiak, 3B/2B/MIF, South Bend St. Joe HS, 2016: 5-foot-10, 180 pound infielder ran a 7.38 60.  Across the diamond was 77 mph.  Possesses a strong frame.  Defensively hands are soft qith quick feet.  Average arm strength.  Plays through the baseball with a clean exchange.  At the plate starts open with a smooth load and short stride.  Average use of lower half.  Good balance.  Level path to the baseball with gap to gap potential.  Fluid rhythm throughout. 

Ryan Pepiot, 3B/RHP/C, Westfield HS, 2016: 6-foot-2, 190 pound 2016 possesses a strong, athletic frame.   Has the ability to play multiple positions on the field. In the INF  possesses above average hands with good footwork.  Plays through the baseball and showcased a live arm across the diamond at 81 mph; projects as a 3B.  As a catcher was 1.98-2.10 with his pop times, 77 mph from the crouch.  On the mound sat 85-86 with the fastball, touching 87.  FB shows run and was consistently in the zone.  12/6 breaking ball sat 74-76 with a sharp break.  Pitches from a high ¾ slot with quick arm speed.  Easy effort. Gets downward leverage.  Offensively starts slightly open, stride is short.  Above average bat speed.  Possesses pull side power.  Hands work and gets to extension.

Ryen Millsap, OF/3B, Terre Haute South HS, 2015: 5-foot-10, 183 pounder ran a 7.65 60.  From the OF was 72 mph with a long arm action.  Tends to stab at the ball.  Footwork is fluid with a clean exchange.  Across the diamond at 3B was 70 mph.  Overall average defender at 3B with average actions.  Offensively hits from an open setup.  Loads back and uses a short stride.  Good balance throughout the swing.  Swing path is uphill displaying pull side power. 

Sam Berry, SS/2B/MIF, Carmel HS, 2016: 6-foot, 160 pound middle infielder ran a 7.44 60 and was 73 across the diamond from a low ¾ slot.  Hands are above average with fluid feet.  Exchange is clean.  Plays through the baseball.  Above average defender. At the plate hits from a balanced setup.  Tends to wrap during the load.  Stride is short with some use of lower half.  Good balance throughout.  Bat speed is average with a good approach. 

Sam Cox, LHP, Hamilton Southeastern HS, 2017: 6-foot-1, 190 pound lefty pitches from a ¾ slot with average arm speed.  Arm is loose.  Smooth rhythm throughout the delivery with good direction to the palte.  Tall to fall type delivery.  Overall good athleticism.  Fastball topped out at 77 with some run.  Breaking ball was 67-68 while the changeup was 63 mph.  Projectable frame for a 2017.

Shanson Lamb, OF/3B, North Knox HS, 2015: 6-foot-1, 200 pounder ran a 7.30 60 at the event.  From the OF was 80 mph from a short arm action and ¾ slot.  Possesses average hands with a long exchange.  Fields it deep.  At 3B was 79 across the diamond.  Offensively starts balanced with a smooth load.  Stride is short with good use of lower half. Slight leg kick.  Bat speed is quick producing gap to gap power. 

Tyler Holloway, C, Bloomington South HS, 2016: 5-foot-11, 175 pound catcher was 1.97-2.04 with his pop times.  Possesses a clean transfer and was quicker than he was this winter.  Starts tall in his setup.  Offensively uses a short stride with a smooth load.  Swing is short compact and level.  At times will drop his hands.  Possesses good bat speed and gets to extension.  Line drive type hitter that barrels up the baseball consistently. 

Zach Britton, C, Batesville HS, 2017: 6-foot, 165 pound catcher is plus receiver for a 2017. Displays good mobility side-to-side.  Solid set up, quiet.  Pop times were consistently 2.01-2.15 and on the bag.  74 mph from the crouch.  Offensively starts tall with a smooth load.  Uses a leg kick with good use of lower half.  Good athleticism in his swing.  Possesses projectable power for a 2017 with some barrel whip.  High follow in the 2017 class.

Zach Tejchma, OF, Plainfield HS, 2016: 5-foot-8, 145 pounder ran a 7.41 60 and was 75 from the OF.  Arm action is short while throwing from a high ¾ slot.  Possesses average hands defensively with a long exchange.  At the plate hits from a crouch setup, smooth load back.  Stride is short.  Possesses quick bat speed with a level path.  Line drive type hitter with gap to gap potential.
