Power 25 Ranking Update

Ronald Sims
Mississippi Scouting Director

The 2018 Mississippi high school baseball season is in full swing, as teams around the state transition out of their tournament schedules and start with district play. Remaining in the Number 1 spot in this week's update is Gulfport High School. The Admirals are now 15-2 after winning three of four games this week, and they don’t look to be slowing down anytime soon.

On the Rise

+ Northwest Rankin: The Cougars have continued to find their groove offensively, and has started to come alive as they work deeper into the season. Having won the last 8 of 9 games, Northwest Rankin has outscored their opponents 84-22 in these contests.

+ Vancleave: Claiming victory in nine of their last ten games, and starting the season 11-6, the Bulldogs look to continue their winning ways. Jones JC signee, Bailee Hendon and MS Gulf Coast CC signee Hayden Robb have had a big impact on the lineup so far and will be big pieces as they continue to navigate through district play.

New to Rankings

+ West Jones: The Mustangs have gotten off to a hot start recording 13 wins with only one loss. With the early season success logging wins versus Vancleave and West Lauderdale, adds to their rise in this weeks update.

+ Purvis: Arguably one of the hottest teams in the state, the Tornadoes have had an impressive start to the 2018 campaign, going 12-2 in the first half of the season. Purvis recorded three big wins this week including a sweep versus Sumrall and posting a 7-6 victory over 6A Oak Grove.
