Preseason Preview: Mountain House

PBR California Staff

New Episode LIVE now! At The Yard Podcast

COVID ended the 2020 season early throughout the State but as things progress quickly for the 2021 high school season, it’s time for us to preview teams from around the State in the Yearly Preseason Preview. Schedules are being adapted to fit the ever-changing landscape and though this season may look different than history has shown us, coaches/staff, players, families, and our team are preparing for 2021 to be as successful as possible.

We’ve submitted the Preseason Questionnaire to high school head coaches across the entire state and their responses have been flooding in. Over the next several weeks, we’ll be using their detailed insight on our team-by-team previews ahead of the 2021 season leading into the California Power 25 Rankings.

SEASON OUTLOOK:

Coach Gatehouse will be returning a whopping 7 starters for 2021 and with 11 returning pitchers, depth won’t be one of his worries. With that many returning players, Mountain House will have the versatility and athleticism to turn into a strong member of the WAC League and are expecting to stay in the top half this season. The Mustangs will have their biggest strengths coming from their overall team speed and a strong core of players in the middle of the diamond. With this much athleticism and versatility, they will rely on more of a small ball game looking to turn their lineup over multiple times early in games so that their pitching staff doesn’t have to be perfect against opposing lineups. Their young group of players will support a strong group of returners as they continue to raise the bar on the level of talent coming out of Mountain House High School.
