Q and A with recent Vincennes commit Wade McNabb

PBR Indiana recently sat down with Vincennes University commit, Wade McNabb.  McNabb is a 6-foot-3 inch, 230 pound senior catcher at Evansville Memorial High School.

PBR: What were your stats last season for Evansville Memorial and the Evansville Razorbacks (Travel Team)?

McNabb: Memorial HS- Career through Jr. Season: 10-2B, 4-3B, 4-HR, 40-RBI
Evansville Razorbacks Travel Team:  Fall of 11’;   10/31, .323Avg, 5-1B, 3-2B, 2-HR, 7-RBI, 10-Runs, 6-BB, 2-HBP, 5-Ks, .400 OBP

PBR: Why did you choose Vincennes?

McNabb: The Coaching Staff made me feel very welcome and told me exactly why they felt I could be a big part of their program while I was on my official visit. They were very straightforward with me and made a nice offer.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

McNabb: D-1’s: IU, ISU, WKU, Bradley, Harvard, SIU, U of E, App. State, Richmond. JC’s: Olney, Wabash Valley, Rend Lake, SE IL, Louisburg College in NC.

PBR: Where did Vincennes first see you compete?

McNabb: I think they’ve seen me play in HS, but I had a big day while playing their team in a fall game that seemed to kind of seal the deal. I made my visit the very next week and they offered that day.

PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play during your first year on campus?

McNabb: They’ve told me that they hope I can make an immediate impact at the plate and help them at catcher and 1B.

PBR: What is your biggest strength as a player and how do you feel that will help Vincennes?

McNabb: My best tool is my bat and being a good defensive catcher/ 1B is next. These skills will allow me to help the team win.

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?
McNabb: My grandfather has impacted me the most by inspiring me to work hard and to persevere to achieve my goals.

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was your most exciting experience?

McNabb: In the summer and fall I play for Jeremy Johnson who manages the Evansville Razorbacks 18U Travel Team. I have had a good experience with him and he runs a quality travel club for players that are interested in playing at the next level and beyond. The quality of the competition we face every weekend is very good which helps raise the bar on my own game.

PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher you have faced in Indiana?

McNabb: I saw several very tough pitchers throughout this past summer and fall season with the Razorbacks.

PBR: What are your goals both individually and for the team going into your senior season?

McNabb: The Sectional got away from us last year so we definitely want to start there, then if we could make a run into the tournament that would be great way to close out a HS career.
