Top Performers

2020 Carson Wells, CF (Bishop Gorman)

Southern California commit. Athletic, 6-foot-1, 185, Wells is a projectable outfielder with present strength. Really impressed with this young man’s game.  Weight and strength gains have stabilized movements providing body control and solid transition to throw. He aggressively looks to play short hop outfield ground balls, carrying him into his online throws.  There is a noticeably arm strength that could be enhanced by stepping right over left in throwing footwork, but the step behind is his natural movement. As a hitter, he has good, balance approach with easy, fluid rhythm to accompany strength and bat speed.  He has a naturally lofted swing, matching plane with pitch and providing an ability to drive the ball regularly.  His 6.47 60-speed provide the ability to stay in centerfield, one can expect to hear a lot about this young man for the next few springs and may be many to come.

2021 Thomas Di Landri OF (Palo Verde)

TCU commit. Physical, 6-foot-2, 195, Di Landri has a strong, athletic build with present strength and quickness.  Di Landri is ‘tooled up”.  He ran a 6.6 60-yard dash which provide him the ability to stay in centerfield.  His outfield actions reveal an advanced awareness of footwork and rhythm. He employed and added shuffle in most instances to accommodate his positional velocity of 90 mph.  Body control and consistent rhythm will provide for more true and accurate throws, but the tools are present.  At the plate, Di Landri strength and electric bat speed illustrated by his event best 105 mph exit velocity, provide power potential beyond his years.  He consistently made loud contact after settling in.  He sets and loads with a high back elbow, taller in stature, employing a leg kick trigger and tipping the barrel toward the pitcher.  He whips the bat throw the zone with authority. Easy to see why he has already accepted a Division 1 offer, but chances are the MLB will be knocking as well

2021 Callan Hermansen OF (Green Valley)

Lanky, 6-foot-3, 175, Hermansen has an athletic frame with plenty of room for weight and strength gains. The long levered Hermansen has reliable outfield actions with a feel for fielding rhythm and his transition to throw.  His arm action is deep and long but provides true and accurate throws with solid carry. He employs step-behind throwing footwork, where as a step-over or shuffle may lend a better line for his body and throw.  At the plate, he stands with slightly bent legs striding to a wider position, creating a strong launch position. He has a manageable length to his naturally lofted swing which projects power.   He made consistent quality contact with a middle of the field approach. Weight and strength gains will provide greater stability and the realization of his obvious projectability. Hermansen can expect big things to come his way in the near future.

2020 Maxwell Leuga OF (Green Valley)

Physical, 5-foot-11, 190. Leuga has a sturdy, durable body that will likely lend to corner outfield with weight and strength gains.  He is a confident and reliable outfielder with the actions for the position.  He has good body control and the ability to put himself in position to throw on variety of plays, both with time to set up and on the move.  He maintains playable arm strength that plays up due to his footwork and exchange. Leuga ran well for his size and that may allow him to stay in center field.  At the plate, he maintains a solid combination of strength and bats speed.  He starts with legs bent and stays in his legs well, drawing on his strength to provide potential power. He made consistent quality contact, maintaining an aggressive approach with good balance.  A potential middle of the order type bat with the tolls to stay in centerfield will draw a lot of attention.

2021 Santino Panaro CF (Bishop Gorman)

Stocky, 5-foot-8, 155, Panaro has a compact frame with present strength. Panaro’s work ethic is noted in his size and strength gains since the Fall.  He is a twitchy hard-nosed player who gives everything he has to the task at hand. His 6.63 60-yard time eludes to his closing speed and his ability to take hits away from opposing hitters.  Panaro stays in solid rhythm with his feet and transition to throw. He throws out of a high ¾ slot with arm speed and developing arm strength.  In the box, he stands open and strikes closed with a short quick swing and high finish.  He maintains a mostly middle to pull side approach and his short quick bat can produce a bit a sneaky power. He profiles as a top of the order bat, playing a premium position as a centerfielder.

Best of the Rest

2020 Trevor Meisner, OF (Bishop Gorman)

Lean, 6-foot-2, 170, Meisner has an athletic build with room for weight and strength gains.  He has solid outfield actions, displaying proper footwork and employing an aggressive “crow” hop.  He throws from an overhand slot that promotes a true throw with good carry to accompany a noticeable arm strength.  In the box, he sets balanced, keeping his weight between his feet throughout the load, stride and swing process.  He loads his hands, flaring the barrel at launch position, creating manageable length and a slightly uphill path. He has projectable power that if realize in competition could profile at corner outfield.  Still a lot upside physically and athletically, Meisner is poised for huge gains.

2019 Logan Coons OF (Liberty)

Athletic, 6-foot-2, 180, Coons has sloped shoulders with wiry strength. With a somewhat unpolished approach to the skills of the game, he maintains a high level of athleticism and quick twitch, illustrated in his 6.74 60 time. Hard to walk away from the get-it-done mentality that puts substance over style in his actions.  Coons is a capable outfielder that ensures ball security and produce solid on-target throws. At the plate, it is starts with a leg kick and low hand load relying on his strength to produce a quick, short to-and-through swing.   He consistently made solid contact, hitting the ball where it was pitched. Coons has a high ceiling and deserves close following this spring.

2021 Reed Pippin, 2B (Coronado)

Athletic, 5-foot-10, 160, Pippins is a well-proportioned athlete with present strength.  He is a reliable outfielder with the speed to stay in centerfield. He has a good feel for throwing footwork and the transition to throw.  He throws from a high ¾ slot, getting consistently on top of the ball for true, online throws.  At the plate, he stands tall, retaining good posture throughout his swing with a high finish.  Pippin looks-to-pull and the high finish produces a fair amount of flyballs.  His twitchy swing with wiry strength may provide sneaky power down the line, but he presently may be better suited to use his speed and work to the middle of the field. Pippin’s speed plays and there is a lot to work with.

2020 Payton Brooks, OF (Arbor View)

Small Frame, 5-foot-8, 130, Brooks has a projectable frame with a solid skill set.  He displays confident outfield actions with a solid feel for throwing footwork and clean exchange.  Furher development of his footwork with a right over left release could lend some added carry to his throws. He has a long true arm action that delivers on line throws and utilizes a long a long hop when necessary.  At the plate, Brooks maintains a fluid approach with a down to level swing and high finish.  He has balance throughout his swing and makes consistent quality contact.  Size and strength gains and natural maturation will propel a polished set of actions into a nice player down the line. Keep a close watch on this guy in the years ahead.

2022 Ari Kligman, OF, (Cimarron Memorial)

Lean, 5-foot-8, 140, Kligman has an athletic build with sloped shoulders.  He possesses very natural actions in the outfield with good fielding rhythm. He has good length to the draw in his throwing arm with on line throws and solid carry.  His throws will be enhanced by developing his outfield footwork as well as size and strength gains. As hitter, Kligman stand tall and maintains good posture throughout the swing process, utilizing a double stride and minmal amount of hand load.  He has mostly a down to level swing path that is on plane for some time and finishes high. He has a good feel for the barrel and delivers the bat head well to a variety of pitches.  His metrics are well positioned for steady growth. This youngster will be someone to watch in the near future.

2021 Ethan Yatson, OF (Foothill)

Lanky, 5-foot-10, 155 Yatson has an evenly proportioned frame and shows some wiry strength. He has capable outfield actions as well as the athleticism and speed to potentially play all three spots. He throws from lower ¾ slot which hinders carry from the outfield, but he has the arm strength with work and development for the outfield. An effort to get consistently on top of the ball will lend better and allow current strength of arm to play up. As a hitter, Yatson has whip in his barrel and looks to pull.  There is a manageable length to his swing as he loads to a lower hand position, striding open and spinning on his front heel.  He has feel for the barrel with a slightly uphill plane. His speed and arm strength accompanied by the length to his arm swing may lend better to an outfield position but keep an eye on this athlete.

2020 Jareyn Yamaguchi, 2B (SLAM Academy)

Small frame, 5-foot-4, 125, Yamaguchi is very much at home in the outfield. A fearless defender, he catches everything he can get to and has the ability to take hits away. His jumps and reads allow his defense to play up.  He hits the cutoff man, relying on a quick transition to throw over pure arm strength. As a hitter, Yamaguchi maintains a short, quick stroke with a line drive approach. He loads with a “tap back” lower half and a rocking of his hands, leading to a handsy swing with some bat speed.  He made consistent contact using the whole field.

2021 Hunter Mark, OF (Bishop Gorman)

Youthful, 5-foot-11, 180, Mark has present mass in developing size and strength. He will benefit from natural maturation and a strength/conditioning program.  Present speed and actions may lend better to first base play, but Mark is a developing young player with a feel for appropriate footwork and rhythm in the outfield. He maintains some length to his exchange to get behind his throws that were mostly online.  Natural maturation and work will sure up his actions and accompany his size and strength.  In the box, he stands narrow and slightly opened striding small and close, hitting from a taller position. He maintains a power approach with a naturally lofted swing, releasing soon after contact.  It is easy to see power on solid contact for the right-handed righter, left-handed thrower.

2021 Max McKee, OF (Bishop Gorman)

Strong, 5-foot-11 190, McKee is a sturdy, bodied player with present strength. He maintains reliable outfield actions with an understanding for footwork and fielding rhythm. His arm is short and quick upon transition to throw. His throws were online and in position to be relayed if necessary.  There is short term velocity on his throw and carry could be enhanced with greater extension.  As a hitter, McKee starts with slightly bent legs striding to a quickly stiffed, front leg, compelling a quick, handsy swing through the zone.  An ability to stay in his legs longer could provide greater strength on contact as well as allow him to stay on plane longer.  Hard to walk away from his bat speed and strength which can produce loud contact.

2020 Jacob Peters, OF (Las Vegas)

Sturdy, 6-foot 185, Peters is physical with the durability to play multiple positions.  He is a capable outfielder that will end better to a corner outfield position. He has good body control and solid footwork and transition to throw.  His throws were accurate and there with the exception of speed there is nothing hindering him in the outfield. In the box, Peters stands tall and hits off of a balanced base, starting slightly open in stance and striding closed. He rides his front leg for timing, swinging hard with a tight two-handed finish. He has a power orientation with the swing plane to match.  He made frequent loud contact.  The bat needs to carry Peters, but he has the ability to be considered at multiple spots on the field.

2022 Jordan Writer, OF (Coronado)

Sturdy 6-foot, 160, Writer has a durable body with some present strength.  There is assuredly room for weight and strength gains.  He plays first base and has capable actions but may profile as a corner outfielder due to pure arm strength.  In the outfield, he had a good feel for footwork and displayed a strong and accurate throwing arm.  He certainly has the ability to provide value at first base but ran well for his size and deserves a long look at corner outfield.  In the box, he starts open and strides closed with a smooth, easy hand load. He whips the bat through the zone with good barrel release a she releases his top hand after contact. He maintains good posture, allowing him to get the barrel to a variety of pitch locations. Just a sophomore, Writer is an intriguing prospect that deserves attention.
