season preview

After push to the Bi-Districts in 2016, Head Coach Ricky Salazar retains a number of young players with considerable accolades into this new spring. Michael Mata, the Coyotes starting quarterback and a solid ballplayer to boot, will roam between shortstop and his duties on the mound. A First-Team All District selection, the athletic Mata isn’t the only junior likely to see significant playing time. Righty pitcher Jacob Trevino, an Honorable Mention All District choice last season, Joel Trevino and Mitchell Henderson will see be utilized all around the diamond.

When it comes to senior leadership, eyes immediately shine upon catcher Dustin Elizondo. Picked as a Second-Team All District member a season ago, Elizondo is a stout 5-8 backstop set to charge the battery of the Uvalde pitching staff. Fellow seniors Connor Kimball and Hunter Hearn bring back experience at first base, in the outfield and on the mound.
