Brett Thorney
State Scouting Director

Before the new year, many PBR states take the time to highlight the most viewed player profiles during the previous year from their respective areas. These views can come from scouts, coaches, players, family, etc. Coaches & scouts even have the ability to do advanced searches for players from our dashboard using key metrics & parameters. PBR has the ability to track how many views are going into each profile for personal use. Before the new year, we will be highlighting the Top-10 most view player profiles of 2020.

Today, we highlight the No. 6 spot on our list for Arizona:

Scouting Report

4/01/20

Selvidge, an LSU recruit, might have the highest upside in the class with the athleticism and stuff on the mound to be the top prospect at some point. A picture-esq physique at 6-foot-3, 200-pounds with lean strength throughout, Selvidge looks the part standing on the mound, and his 88-91 fastball will likely tick up much higher this summer and over the next 12-14 months. Also a gifted hitter/position player, that athleticism combined with the quickness of the arm allows for easy projection. Feel for a potential swing-and-miss breaking ball and developing changeup will make Selvidge one of the most coveted southpaws in a class that is deep with left-handed pitching. The biggest factor in Selvidge’s rise will be his consistency and the ability for all the elite potential to come together on the national circuit.

12/10/17 - Athletic 6-foot-2 170-pound frame. Already rated as the top 2021 prospect in Arizona, Selvidge established himself as one of the top prospects in the country with his showing at the Freshmen Free Showcase. Posting the top 60-yard dash (7.08), outfield velo (85) and fastball veto (87), Selvidge was easily the top player in attendance and is already an elite-level national prospect. Using a leg-lift trigger and deep hand load, he showcased the same bat speed during BP that we have previously seen from him in a live game setting. When he learns to stay behind the baseball more consistently his swing will develop more consistent loft. That combined with a continued increase in physical strength will allow his elite bat speed to produce more power. In our first live look on the mound, he may have been even better. Touching 87 with his fastball while showing elite arm speed and the ability to sink it, Selvidge is a definite two-way prospect. He also mixed in a slurvy 72-74 mph breaking ball an showed feel for a 77-79 mph change, throwing all three pitches for strikes. His development will be exciting to watch over the next four years.

9/28/17 - 6-foot-2 165-pounds. Listed as a switch hitter but hit RH vs. RHP. Showed combination of advanced approach and bat speed that produced consistent hard contact to the middle of the field.  Athletic, projectable body with plenty of room on frame to fill out and get stronger.  Highest level follow. Interested to see him on the mound.
