Top 10 Profiles of 2022: No. 10 Thomas Burns
December 19, 2022
Today we will begin our ‘End of the Year’ countdown, highlighting the most viewed player profiles in Wisconsin from this year. We’ll be working our way to the top spot, starting with No. 10 and releasing the most viewed name on New Year’s Eve.
Our profiles serve as an all-in-one platform for players, hosting vendors such as verified stats, event video, contact information, and more. To create a free PBR profile, click HERE.
Kicking off our top-10 most viewed profiles is Arizona State commit, RHP Thomas Burns (Hortonville, 2023) whose profile earned the 10th most views this year. To start his productive year, the former Future Game participant came into the South Milwaukee Preseason ID as one, if not the top uncommitted talent and his performance there only asserted that notion even more. Here is what our staff had to say following his performance:
“...Standing at 6-foot-4, 195-pounds, Burns possesses long levers and an upside hack in his hips. Working a simple, and directional move down the mound, Burns delivers from a high slot with a large shoulder tilt. His fastball reached a peak of 91 mph on his hardest bullet, sitting at 89-90 mph on the day with control and smaller vertical misses. He owns the kind of fastball that misses a lot of barrels and looks to have a usable mid-90s upside with 20 inches of vertical break already in play. His curveball has made large improvements year over year, at 17 inches of vertical break, and 13.5 inches of sweep, all while working off the same plane as his fastball. The changeup picks up an effective 12 inches of horizontal break, and comes in considerably faster than the curveball. Burns is a legit arm with plenty of upside as a fan favorite of local amateur evaluators.”
Shortly following the event Burns announced his commitment to Pac-12 member Arizona State and his performance during the winter was only a preview of what he was going to offer throughout the spring and summer circuit. In the spring for the Polar Bears, Burns was flat-out dominant, finishing the season with a .88 ERA across his 47.2 innings, a WHIP of .99 and 83 Ks, which earned him co-Pitcher of the Year in the Fox Valley Association and a spot on the PBR Wisconsin All-State: Second Team, as well. Then in the summer, Burns earned an invite to the PBR Procase-Midwest, which served as identifier for draft prospects in the 2023 class and shortly after, at the 17U PBR at The Rock Summer Championships, he hit some new highs in front of our staff when he topped at 92 mph in his outing for his Hitters Squad.
Since his breakout performance at the Future Games in 2021, Burns has continuously proven that he is a top arm in the Badger State. With one more spring season left before he heads off to Tempe, Burns will be a main contributor, yet again, for his Hortonville squad and will be looking to put the finishing touches onto his stellar prep career.
