Top Prospect Preview: Underclass Position Players
August 27, 2020
With the Top Prospect Games quickly approaching, we will be taking a look at a number of players to watch in the Prospect Preview leading into Nevada's largest event of the summer hosted Las Vegas Ballpark. This event will features some of the top players from the 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024 classes who will be analyzed and assess with the help of the most advanced technology in baseball, TrackMan and Blast Motion. Day 1 will feature a Pro-Style workout where players will be running a Laser Timed 60, Batting Practice session using Blast Motion to analyze In-Swing Data and TrackMan to assess Post Contact Metrics, Outfield Evaluations, Infield Evaluations and Catcher Evaluations. Day 2 will include Live-Streamed simulated play that will allow some of the top arms in the state to showcase their abilities against some of the best bats Nevada has to offer.
Luke Metzker - 2022, Bishop Manogue, Uncommitted
Metzker comes fresh off of representing Nevada at the 2020 Future Games. The Bishop Manogue product showed promising actions in the field, at the plate as well as on the mound topping out at 84 mph. A fixture up the middle for Team Nevada, he had a perfect weekend defensively where he also found the barrel multiple times to the big part of the yard, but had nothing to show for it. At 5-foot-11 and only 150 pounds, this is a player who could make significant jumps in the coming years in all areas of his games as he continues to develop physically. Metzker joins a crew of Northern Nevada prospects that will make their way down to Las Vegas this weekend to put their abilities on display and open some eyes to the talent that is still available in the Reno/Sparks and surrounding areas.

Tai Nguyen - 2022, Bishop Gorman, Uncommitted
Nguyen also joined Metzker as a member of Team Nevada at the 2020 Future Games after participating in the 2019 Future Games as well. He may have had the loudest weekend this year in Emerson, Georgia where he put his power on display not only in the batting practice session during the Team Workouts, but in the games as well where he barreled up multiple balls to the middle of the field. He found himself at the top of the Team Nevada leaderboard in a handful of TrackMan categories following the workout with a Exit Velocity of 97.29 mph and Max Distance of 373 feet on a no-doubt blast out left-center field. He was set to have his breakout year in the heart of a talented Bishop Gorman lineup, blistering the ball throughout the Fall and Preseason before the season was ultimately cancelled.

Joey Schimick - 2022, Faith Lutheran, Uncommitted
Billy Scaldeferri - 2023, Bishop Gorman, Uncommitted
Scaldeferri, the #7 ranked 2023, comes into the Top Prospect event as an interesting incoming sophomore that showed promising actions at the Bishop Gorman Scout Day and after six months of continued development, he could solidify himself as one of the top middle infielders in the class. At 5-foot-11, 160 pounds, he has plenty of room to fill out his lean frame that should directly translate into positive progression in each part of his game. This is a prospect we will be watching closely as he could be a prospect who make some noise among his peers, catching the eye of the schools who plan on tuning into the Top Prospect Live Stream.
