With the playoffs just about fully underway in Virginia, we will begin running our scoreboard daily.

Power 25 Rankings in the scoreboard reflect where a team was ranked at the time the game was played.

 

VA/DC SCOREBOARD: MAY 30

 

Region 1B 

Riverheads 6, Stonewall Jackson (Quicksburg) 5
Riverheads scored two to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh on a Bradley Roberts double and walked off in the eighth to win on an Elijah Dunlap single. Dunlap started the game and threw five scoreless innings in a no-decision and Forrest Shuey was 3-4 with an RBI. Matt Dove was 2-4 with 2 RBIs for Stonewall.


Region 1D Championship

Patrick Henry 4 (Rye Cove), Honaker 3
Patrick Henry scored all four of their runs in the fifth inning to rally from a 3-0 deficit. Connor Buchanan was 2-3 with an RBI and a 2B and Drew Miller was 2-2 with an RBI and a 2B. Jackson Cruise threw a complete game and allowed just four hits in the win.


Region 2A

Goochland 6, Prince Edward 1
Goochland scored two in the first and kept extending to clinch their State tournament berth. Tyler Gentry allowed two hits in five innings for the win and Tyler Ott was 3-3 with 3 RBIs and a 2B.

Maggie Walker 10, Randolph-Henry 7
The Green Dragons trailed 5-2 headed to the seventh inning and scored eight runs in the top half of the inning to earn a State Tournament bid. Hunter Taylor was 2-5 with a 2B, 3B, and 3 RBIs and Matthew Haines was 3-4 for Maggie Walker.

 

Region 2B

Stuart's Draft 10, Clarke County 6
Stuart's Draft trailed 6-1 headed to the seventh and won the game in eight innings. The big blow came when Henry Cooke hit a three-run home run to tie the game in the seventh. Cooke finished the day 4-5 with a 2B, home run, and 4 RBIs and Dustin Fitzgerald was also 3-4. Jackson Taylor threw 5 innings and allowed just one run in a no-decision, while striking out 6 and Eamon Juday and Daniel Lyman hit home runs for Clarke County.

Page County 10, East Rockingham 1
Freshman TR Williams threw a complete game 3-hitter with 12 strikeouts as Page punched its State Tournament ticket. Noah Hammer and Matt Martin hit home runs and Jake Day was 3-4 in the win.

 

Region 2C

Fort Chiswell 2, Chatham 2, Suspended in the 4th


Region 2D

Virginia 8, Wise Central 7
Virginia jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first but Central came back to force extra innings before Virginia walked it off in the ninth on a Jean Mulumba 2B. Mulumba finished the game 3-4 with 2 2Bs while Tyler Anderson had a home run and 3 RBIs and Jamison Lathrop was 2-4 with a 2B and 2 RBIs. Central reliever Bryson Collins allowed just two runs in six hits while also driving in 2 runs in the comeback. Tyler Muncy was also 3-4 with 2 RBIs for Central.

Tazewell 5, John Battle 2
Battle tied the game in the bottom of the seventh but Tazewell responded with three runs in the top of the eighth, with Brayden Powers driving in the go-ahead runs with a two-run single. Sidney Willis struck out 11 in 6.2 innings in a no-decision for Tazewell and Landon Moore matched him with 7 innings and 13 strikeouts for Battle.

Northside vs. Cave Spring, PPD


Region 4A

No. 13 Grafton 13, Deep Creek 1
The Clippers scored nine runs in the fifth to pull away for the win. Grafton took advantage of eight walks and sophomore Trey Gibson threw five scoreless innings to earn the win.

 

Region 4D

Salem (Roanoke) 10, Jefferson Forest 3
The Spartans clinched a State Tournament berth with their win, Zian Honaker was the winning pitcher, allowing two runs on just two hits in six innings. Joe Quinn was 2-2 with 3 RBIs and Matt Wright was 2-3 with an RBI.


Region 5B

Deep Run 20, Douglas Freeman 5
The eighth-seeded Wildcats are headed to State Tournament and scored five runs in each of the first two innings to put this game away early. Carson Jones (Virginia) had a home run and 3 RBIs and Hayes Fallen was 3-5 as Deep Run took advantage of ten walks and four Freeman errors.

No. 20 Prince George 6, Atlee 5
A back-and-forth game ended when Evan Kozen delivered a walk-off double for the Royals in the seventh, sending them back to the State Tournament. Kozen was 2-3 with 2 RBIs and Tevin Tucker (West Virginia) was 1-3 with 2 SBs as Prince George won despite being held to three base hits. Zach Beach (Coastal Carolina) was 2-3 with 2 2Bs and John Kish (James Madison) threw 4 innings of hitless relief for Atlee.


Region 5C

No. 23 Briar Woods 8, Rock Ridge 0
Wilson Ayers (Navy) threw a shutout with eight strikeouts and sophomore Nathan Cmeyla was 2-3 with a 3B and 2 RBIs as the defending Class 5 State Champions clinched a return to the State Tournament. Jake Rayfield (Christopher Newport) and Brandon Hamm also had multi-hit games. This game was very tight until Briar Woods pulled away with a big sixth inning.

No. 15 Freedom (South Riding) 1, Potomac Falls 0
A classic pitcher's duel saw Jonathan Fisher (Christopher Newport) narrowly outduel Nate Savino (Virginia). Fisher allowed just one hit and one walk while striking out 10. Savino had eight strikeouts and allowed four hits. Will Schroeder (North Carolina) was 1-2 with the game's lone RBI.

 

Region 6A

First Colonial 8, No. 16 Granby 2
The Patriots upset top-seeded Granby to clinch a State Tournament berth. Joey Rodriguez threw four innings of hitless relief. Avery Byrum and Jake Ness were both 2-4 for the Patriots.

Western Branch 11, Oscar Smith 1
Reid Long threw a four hit complete game and struck out 9 as the defending Class 6 champs earned a trip back to the State Tournament. Tim Cassidy was 2-4 with 3 RBIs and Conner Butler was 1-1 with 2 BBs and an RBI. A tight game early saw the Bruins put it away with nine runs combined in the fifth and sixth innings.
