Welcome to our first VA/DC Scoreboard of the 2019 season. This year we will run our scoreboards on Wednesdays and Saturdays. We will always be sure to include scores and brief recaps of games involving Power 25 teams and will strive to get as many of the rest of the scores from the Commonwealth and the District as well.

 

Saturday 3/9

No. 17 Greenbrier Christian 6, First Flight 2
JT Inskeep (VMI) threw 5.2 scoreless innings and drove in three runs in the win. Ethan Ott and Austin Younce each had a double for the Gators.

No. 24 Highland 3, Nansemond-Suffolk 1
Sophomore Ed Wagner allowed 1 run and 1 hit in 5 innings to earn the win. Blake Fisher closed it out and went 2-3. Luke Burner (West Virginia Wesleyan) and Joe DeBardi (Mt. St. Mary's) also each had two hits.

No. 24 Highland 12, Isle of Wight Academy 1
Eddie Gimbel went 3-4 with a double and Dylan Fisher (Lynchburg) was 2-4 as Luke Burner (West Virginia Wesleyan) went five innings to win his first start of the spring.

Nansemond-Suffolk 10, Isle of Wight Academy 5
Freedom Christian 5, Southampton Academy 4

Monday 3/11

No. 16 Battlefield 5, Colgan 4
Senior Zach Agnos (East Carolina) struck out six and went 2-3 with a double and 3 RBIs. Colby Vollmer threw two scoreless innings to earn the save. Senior CJ Miles was 3-3 with two doubles and Carter Cunningham (Gardner-Webb) had a triple. Junior Ryley Johnson (East Carolina) was 1-1 with 2 BBs and a stolen base for Colgan.

Brookville 10, Willaim Campbell 0
Sophomore Brock Duff struck out 10 in four innings of 1-hit work.

Page County 7, Madison County 1
Sophomore TR Williams (Virginia Tech) picked up right where he left off in 2018, striking out 13 in six innings. Williams also had a home run in the win.

Sherando 6, Woodgrove 5
The Warriors rallied from a 5-0 deficit to win, McKinley Dean threw three scoreless innings of relief during the comeback and Michael Usa was 3-4 with 2 RBIs. Wyatt Miles was 1-2 with a double and 2 RBIs and Nick Lockhart (Virginia Tech) struck out 6 in 3.1 hitless innings for the Wolverines.

Tuesday 3/12

No. 2 St. John's College 6, Sidwell Friends 0
Sophomore Quinn Allen had 2 RBIs and a 2B and senior Alex Warren (Vassar) also had 2 RBIs. Senior Kryas Dawson (North Carolina A&T) had a triple and a stolen base and freshman James Triantos (North Carolina) had a double, and RBI and stole a base for the Cadets.

No. 4 Deep Run 11, Maggie Walker 0
Brandon Hill struck out 10 in 4 innings of no-hit ball. Elie Weisner (Furman) was 3-3. 

No. 8 Liberty Christian 5, Appomattox County 1
Senior Christian Gordon (Liberty) struck out 11 in 5.2 hitless innings while also going 1-3 with an RBI. Bailey Reynolds was 2-2 with a double and an RBI for the Bulldogs.

No. 10 Menchville 13, Warwick 4
Ahmad Goldson struck out 10 in four innings and Phillip Forbes V (JMU) had 2 doubles and 4 RBIs. Dawson Guzik also had 2 hits and 4 RBIs.

No. 12 Western Branch 4, Oscar Smith 0
Senior Antonio Velasquez (Bryant & Stratton), sophomore Roberto Velasquez, and junior Reid Long combined on a 2-hit shutout while striking out 14 batters. Antonio was 2-2 with a 2B and 2 BBs and Jalen Perez was 1-1 with 3 BBs and 2 RBIs for the Bruins.

No. 15 Salem (Roanoke) 12, Lord Botetourt 7
The defending Class 4 champs brought the lumber on opening night. Jaden Fetrow hit two home runs out of the leadoff spot and Jack Hudson also homered. Caleb Lingenfelter and Michael Morrison each drove in three runs and Lingenfelter picked up the win with four innings of work. Meade Mayo and Jake Dewease had home runs for Lord Botetourt.

No. 17 Greenbrier Christian 10, Granby 5
Senior Gavin Younce was 2-3 with a grand slam and 5 RBIs total. Sophomore Austin Younce had a double and 2 RBIs. 

No. 19 Fauquier 3, Eastern View 2
Senior Carson McCusker threw 4 innings of 2-hit ball to earn the win while going 1-2 with 2 BBs. Fellow senior Harrison Whitt struck out 6 in 3 innings to earn the save. Nate Winebarger had a 2B and an RBI for the Falcons.

No. 21 Prince George 11, Henrico 1
Jacob Farrar had a home run, Peyton Faulkner drove in 3 runs, and Trent Steward and Dylan Bowen each had 2 RBIs as the defending Class 5 champs opened the season with a win.

No. 23 Midlothian 10, Patrick Henry (Ashland) 0
Senior Cam Furman (Mary Washington) threw a 5 inning no-hitter, striking out 7. Furman also had a double while going 1-3 with an RBI.
