Winter 2020 Showcase Calendar

By Wisconsin Staff

February has arrived, meaning we’re less than two weeks out from the 2020 showcase season commencing in earnest. As a look ahead, we’re going to be briefly outlining what this winter’s schedule looks like to see which showcase you might be interested in attending and when the PBR Wisconsin team will be in your backyard next.

WEST MILWAUKEE PRESEASON I.D.

Next up, STiKS Academy will serve as host to our second annual West Milwaukee Preseason I.D. where nearly 100 prospects attended in 2019. Last February, we discovered several players who earned invitations to the prestigious PBR Future Games held at the state-of-the-art LakePoint facilities in Emerson, Ga. Among them, RHP Drew Stippich (Kettle Moraine; uncommitted), SS Bobby Ball (Brookfield Central; Central Michigan), and LHP Alex Hayes (Muskego; uncommitted). This event helps us highlight names to check in on during the upcoming high school season, as well as players to invite to future select showcases.

SOUTH MILWAUKEE PRESEASON I.D.

Since 2013, we’ve made our way to Hitters Baseball Academy to host this annual Milwaukee-area showcase over 100 of the top prospects in the area. Last year’s roster already features 28 committed prospects, with more surely on the way. Among them, the top-ranked prospect in the state’s 2021 class, and one of the best juniors in the Midwest, SS Noah Miller (Ozaukee; Alabama). The No. 1-ranked sophomore was also in attendance here last March, OF Michael Lippe (Whitefish Bay; Louisville). This event consistently garners the attention of some of the top programs in the Midwest, as well as a heavy in-state. Naturally, we’re able to use the information gathered at this event to identify prospect to invite to future select events, like the Future Games and Junior Future Games.

FOX CITIES PRESEASON I.D.

In all likelihood, Appleton’s Players Choice facility will host this event for the final time – though that doesn’t mean we won’t be returning to the area in 2021. Every year, this event gives us a great look at the talent who call northern Wisconsin home, an area our staff doesn’t get to see as often as we’d like. With newer facilities in the area under construction, this event will certainly live on shining a light on prospects who might otherwise fly under the radar, like juniors RHP Logan Schulfer (Stevens Point; Wisconsin-Milwaukee), C Kaden Kosobucki (West De Pere; Northern Illinois), and OF Joshua Blount (West De Pere; Illinois State). Kosobucki landed a Future Games roster spot with the help of this event, and eventually a commitment to NIU. Both Schulfer and Blount would have joined him had they not committed prior to the Georgia trip. Regardless where this event is held in 2021, the talent in the Fox Cities is constantly getting stronger and we’ll be there to see it first-hand.

FUTURE PROSPECTS SHOWCASE – MADISON

We’ll be in Madison the weekend of March 14 and 15 to host back-to-back showcases at GRB Academy – two of our most heavily attended events on the calendar. On the 14th, the PBR Wisconsin team will host a Future Prospects Showcase, open to prospects belonging to graduating classes 2024 and 2025. This event serves two functions: to give both parents and players an insight into the showcase process as well as knowledge on what it takes to reach playing opportunities at the next level. This showcase also serves as an identifier for prospects to earn invitations to events like the Junior Future Games, also held at the LakePoint facilities in Georgia.

MADISON PRESEASON I.D.

The day after our seventh and eighth grade event, we’ll be hosting the Madison Preseason I.D., which is traditionally our largest showcase of the year. This past March, over 180 high school-level players spent the day with us at GRB Academy, including some of the state’s best talent, representing senior through freshman classes. Turtle Lake RHP Brendan Strenke, an Iowa commit, became one of the state’s top sophomore pitching prospects because of his performance here. Class of 2020 right-handers Tyler Chadwick (Marshall; West Virginia), George Klassen (Port Washington; Minnesota), and Joe Hauser (Waunakee; Arizona State) each solidified themselves as members of the Midwest’s best. We also landed a handful of Team Wisconsin invites, too, including South Carolina commit Owen Washburn (Webster, 2021).
