Prep Baseball Report

Wisconsin Underclass Trials: Preview

By Wisconsin Staff

On June 19, Prep Baseball Report will return to the Rock Sports Complex in Franklin, Wis., to host the Underclass Trials. The event, which is open to class of 2021, 2022, and 2023 graduates, will serve as an identifier for the PBR Future Games, which is the premier summer scouting event for 2021 prospects across our coverage area, in addition to the Underclass Games.

Participants in the Underclass Trials will have their own PBR profile created with showcase statistics, video analysis, and an in-depth scouting report discussing their performance. Prep Baseball Report is followed by more than 850 college and professional scouts, providing a wide range of exposure for all of the athletes that attend our events. Top players at the Underclass Trials will also have the opportunity to be identified in our statewide rankings.

In addition to event analysis, the Underclass Trials will also help our staff identify potential prospects to invite to this year's Future Games event, featuring the country's best 2021 prospects, taking place Cartersville, Ga., from  July 31 to Aug. 3, at the state-of-the-art LakePoint complex. As for the Underclass Games, that event will be held at the University of Illinois at Chicago on July 23, and will bring together the best 2022 prospects from Illinois and Wisconsin to participate in the prestigious invite-only showcase.

A few uncommitted 2021 prospects to know before this Wednesday's showcase: LHP Alex Hayes (Muskego, 2021), RHP Isaac Engelbrecht (Oak Creek, 2021), RHP Will Staviski (Brookfield East, 2021), and 2B Harrison Toone (Brookfield East, 2021) – most of whom were preoccupied last week, helping their high school teams at the state tournament.

Hayes is quickly becoming one of the state's best prospects. He's ranked No. 16 overall and there's room for even more growth, especially on the mound. He's a clean and easy lefty with short and quick arm action, who was up to 84 mph when we last saw him at an event, back in February. Engelbrecht is a physical 6-foot-3, 200 pounds and he's coming off a big strong season for the Knights, in which he recorded a 2.19 ERA with 29 Ks over 23 innings pitched.

Alex Hayes (2/17/19)

Certainly, the talent at this event goes long beyond the four names listed above. We're excited to see the gains this 2021 group has made over the course of the spring season on a platform that could propel them to an even brighter PBR spotlight later this summer.
