Big 12

Champaign Centennial (9-2; 1-0) smashed Decatur MacArthur 14-0 behind Lucas Stefan, who went deep twice for the Chargers. Stefan hammered a grand slam and then later went deep again with a runner on to complete his productive afternoon with six ribbies.

 

Catholic League Crossovers

No. 1 Providence (13-0; 3-0 Blue) defeated De La Salle 13-7 behind University 0f Notre Dame?bound 2B Kevin DeFilippis on Monday. DeFilippis (3-for-3) drove home a pair for the top-ranked Celtics. Bradley University recruit junior Brady Wilkin and Celtic senior LF Dom Olszta chipped in with two hits and two RBI for the Celtics. University of Indiana-bound 3B Sam Travis also had 2 RBI. The Celtics are getting noticed nationwide as they find themselves ranked 14th in the nation in this week?s Max Preps Xcellent 25 National Rankings. The Celtics are 18th nationally in the USA Super 25 National Rankings.

 

No. 5 Mount Carmel (16-1; 4-0 Blue) blanked St. Joseph 9-0. Caravan junior RHP Tyler Laurisch (2-0) whitewashed the Chargers with a half-dozen strikeouts. Caravan No. 9 hitter sophomore 2B Beau Filkins continued his hot hitting with a pair of hits and three RBI. Junior 1B Sam Kint had a perfect 2-for-2 day with an RBI.

 

No. 13 St. Laurence (14-3; 4-0 Blue) and senior RHP Mike Chimera (4-2) bounced back from its debacle on Sunday against L-W East and destroyed old White Division rival Bishop McNamara 16-1 in five innings. Chimera threw four quality innings to pick up the win on the mound and continued his torrid hitting with a three-run bomb and drove home five Viking runs.

 

Mississippi Valley

No. 14 Waterloo (14-1; 2-1) fell from the ranks of the unbeaten on Monday. The Bulldogs were ambushed by another bunch of Bulldogs from Highland 3-2.

 

Highland (9-3; 2-1) senior Nick Lampen (2-1) out-dueled Waterloo?s Middle Tennessee-bound LHP Garrett Schlecht (3-1). Lampen fired a five-hitter with 12 Ks for Highland. Schlecht allowed two earned runs and four hits in his 5 2/3 inning stint, also striking out 12. On Friday, Highland stunned No. 11 O?Fallon 4-3 in Highland.

 

Troy-Triad (13-1; 2-1) put the hurt on Jerseyville 14-0 in six-innings. Knight senior Rich Dimock (6-0) allowed one hit in his five innings of work to become the state?s first six-game winner (to our knowledge). Knight sophomore Cody Massey hit his third homer of 2011 and had three hits and three RBI. Senior Jake Lewis doubled twice and drove in three Knight runs. On Wednesday in Troy, the Knights will host No.14 Waterloo in a big MVC battle at 4:30.

 

S. Illinois River-River- Mississippi

SIRR-Mississippi leader Pinckneyville (12-3; 3-1) slipped past Nashville 7-6 in a nine-inning thriller in Pinckneyville on Monday. Panther senior Taylor Beninati (2-0) picked up the win by pitching a scoreless ninth.

 

S. Illinois River-River- Ohio

No. 25 Harrisburg (11-3; 4-0) routed Herrin 12-0 in five innings behind a one-hit shutout from Bulldog junior RHP Tyler McGowan. John A. Logan College recruit Keelin Rasch homered and had three hits and drove in a pair for the ?Dogs.

 

Benton (15-3; 3-1) was stunned by West Frankfort 9-5 on Monday. Ranger Trey Garrett homered and drove in three to lead the Ranger attack. Benton will travel to No. 25 Harrisburg to meet the Bulldogs on Thursday at 4:30

 

Suburban Christian Blue

Chicago Christian (15-3; 6-1) took over the top spot in the SCC-Blue with a 7-4 win over Montini. Knight junior RHP Trent Overzet improved to 5-0 with the complete-game performance. Senior DH Joe Glotz and junior CF Jon Lemmenes each plated a pair of Knight runs against the Broncos.

 

Nonconference

No. 9 Teutopolis (14-0) made it 33-consecutive wins with a 7-1 drubbing of Beecher City on Monday. Wooden Shoes junior RHP Mark Niebrugge fired a three-hitter and stuck out 12 as the Shoes won for the 14th consecutive time in 2011.

 

No. 11 O?Fallon (14-3) bounced back from its loss at Highland on Friday with a 9-0 whitewash of Centralia. Cedar College-bound Sam Summerlin had three hits and four RBI to lead the Panther attack. Sophomore Ethan Wild (1-0) and junior Kyle Wilson combined to three-hit the Orphans.

 

No. 14 Pleasant Plains (13-1; 2-0 Sangamo) junior Kyle Weller (5-0) was at it again, as he struck out 14 in his one-hit shutout of Pawnee, 1-0. Weller has now fanned 42 in his last three starts for the red-hot Cardinal hurler. Cardinal senior Danny Reiser continued his assault on the baseball with three more hits and he scored the winning run against the Indians.

 

Pawnee (15-2) had their 15-game winning streak snapped. Hard-luck loser Dalton Doerfler (5-1) allowed a lone unearned run, as the game-winner was scored on a two-base error.

 

Pleasant Plains will host Auburn (13-4; 1-0 Sangamo) on Tuesday in an early-season Sangamo Conference showdown Tuesday at 4:30.

 

Alton (9-3) routed Williamsville 12-2 in five innings in Alton. Junior Blake Novak (3-1) fired a one-hitter. Redbird junior Luke Edwards was 4-for-4 with two doubles and drove in two runs to lead the Alton attack. Senior Nick Lombardo chipped in with two hits and three RBI.

 

Edwardsville (9-4) stunned Missouri?s 11th ranked team Vianny, 6-3, at Tom Pile Stadium in Edwardsville. Vianny falls to 13-4.

 

Pontiac (8-7) defeated IVC (11-5) behind a complete-game gem thrown by Indian senior Adam Cason by a 4-2 margin.  Cason (3-0) went the distance and fanned eight Grey Ghost hitters. Indian junior Nick Leach led the Indian attack with a perfect 3-for-3 day and a pair of stolen bases.
