Class of 2024 Inside the Rankings: Top Dogs

Each week leading up to our Preseason slate, we'll be rolling out Inside the Rankings articles to further highlight the movement around the ‘24 classes in PA and NY. This week’s focus shifts the scope to “Top Dogs," the highest ranked uncommitted right-handed pitcher in the Sophomore class.

2024 rhp connor crabtree (lasalle college)

The Spin: One of the more impressive popup standouts at the Preseason All-State East last February, Crabtree worked with clean extension and arm-speed down the slope, running the fastball up to T90 mph. Another strong appearance in August at our PBRT Pennsylvania Select confirmed the pitchability, sitting more in the mid-80’s with better command of the bottom of the zone and bowling-ball heaviness on the FB plane. Though the curveball typically spins around 1691rpms average, it maintains consistent downer shape (-13 inches IVB) and tunnels significantly off the FB, disappearing out of the zone for K’s at the shins. A natural imposing presence (6-foot-5, 218 lbs) combined with the further ability to sharpen up the repertoire will keep the arrow pointed north for the high-ceilinged, power-armed righty and 2022 should be a perfect occasion to rise, given the chance to be an innings-eater for the defending state champions (6A).

The Performance: 2/27/21, Preseason All-State East | Set personal bests in fastball velocity (T90.4 mph), extension (6.3 feet average), curveball velocity (71-72 mph), curveball depth (16 inches peak), and curveball zone rate (60%). Did so as a true Freshman this past winter.
