Prep Baseball Report's IA's Eastern IA Prospect I.D. event took place on Sunday, February 26, 2017. The event was held at the Eastern IA Sports Facility in Monticello, IA. The event featured prospects from the 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020 classes from Iowa and Illinois who showcased their talents in front of our scouting staff.

Michael Biertzer, RHP, Linn-Mar, 2020
6-foot-2, 170-pound right-handed pitcher. Short turn into balance point, leaks out early, lands across body in delivery. Strike thrower with 71-73 mph fastball with occasional cut action. 12/6 breaking ball has heavy feel with good depth of break. Shows above avg. fade on changeup with avg. feel for zone.

CJ Christopher, RHP, Hudson, 2018
5-foot-10, 150-pound right-handed pitcher. Controlled mechanics on mound, solid balance point, lands slightly across body, with extension and finish. Short arm action with downhill plane. Fastball was consistently 79-80 mph; topping out at 83 mph. 11/5 curveball is thrown with good velocity and has tight rotation and depth. Changeup has above average late fade with arm-side movement; thrown at fastball arm speed.

Trey Eagle, 3B/RHP, West Branch, 2020
6-foot-2, 150-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 4.56 home-to-first time. Slight shoulder load, straight legs in lower half, slight lift in swing plane, works middle of field, 73 mph exit velocity. Avg. actions in field, stops to field, accurate to bag, 73 mph arm strength across infield. On mound; controlled mechanics, long arm arm action, falls off on release. Fastball delivered on slight downhill plane with occasional run at 77-79 mph. Raw mechanics on secondary. Breaking ball shows inconsistent shape and spin. Slows down mechanically on changeup with avg. action and fade.

Nile Foss, LHP/OF, Carlisle, 2020
5-foot-7, 141-pound left-handed hitting 2-way player. Slight crouch at balance point, works inline to plate, hides ball from hitter, short arm action on backside, quick out front. Fastball was 75-76 mph, with downhill plane, showing varying run and cut action. 1/7 curveball has solid shape with early break. Shows good feel for changeup with late fading action for 2020 grad. 4.59 home-to-first time. Open stance with leg kick trigger, body load, short to contact, works middle of field, consistent solid contact, 74 mph exit velocity. Reads hops well in field, clean exchange with quick release, consistent on-line throws with accuracy, 77 mph arm strength from outfield.

Jeffrey Heifort, OF/LHP, Davis County, 2018
6-foot-3, 210-pound left-handed hitting 2-way player. 4.48 home-to-first time. Arm bar in load, minimal weight shift through contact, pull approach, fly ball contact, 81 mph exit velocity. Avg. actions in field, low ¾ arm slot, sinking action on throws, 70 mph arm from outfield. On mound; ¾ slot on mound producing 69-71 mph fastballs. Loose spin on curveball with varying break and command. Slider had inconsistent break and shape.

Kenyon Hosch, OF, Independence, 2018
5-foot-11, 170-pound right-handed hitting outfielder. 4.27 home-to-first time. Deep hand set. Inconsistent lower half, flat swing plane through zone, shows middle/oppo approach, 77 mph exit velocity. Avg. actions. Fields with two hands, falls off on throws, avg. carry and accuracy, 74 mph arm strength from outfield.

Ryan Hosch, RHP/2B, Cedar Rapids Xavier, 2018
6-foot, 180-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. Shows solid extension and explosion to plate. Short arm action with with hand quickness out front. Fastball was 77-79 mph and projects to increase. Flashes sharp break on curveball with 11/5 shape. Solid fade on changeup with late action. 4.78 home-to-first time. Open stance, active hands with shoulder load, front heel turn trigger, inverted bat path, hard line drives when on time with pitch, 80 mph exit velocity. Avg./solid feet, late glove presentation, fields deep into body, creates direction with clean arm action, 72 mph arm strength.

Jaxon Kirchgatter, LHP, Lincoln Piux X (NE), 2020
5-foot-5, 100-pound left-handed pitcher. Short turn in balance point, has direction to plate, shows extension and finish on release. High ¾ arm slot producing 58-60 mph fastballs on downhill plane to plate. 1/7 shape on slider for strikes. Changeup was thrown for strikes. Overall good feel for zone with 3 pitches.

Cole Kraber, OF/RHP, Oskaloosa, 2019
6-foot-1, 170-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 4.44 home-to-first time. Square stance, slight body load, no stride to contact, downhill path through baseball, solid contact, works gap to gap, 80 mph exit velocity. ¾ arm slot, accurate throws to plate, avg. defensive actions, 77 mph arm strength from outfield. On mound; short turn into balance point, has direction and extension to plate, front foot lands open on release. Short arm action producing 74-76 mph fastballs with varying action. Split lacks velo but has appropriate drop action at plate. Changeup is avg. with vary action and feel for zone.

Clay Kuhlemeier, 1B, Rockford, 2018
5-foot-8, 170-pound right-handed hitting first baseman. Compact strong build. 4.18 home-to-first. Easy load, above avg. bat speed, pulls off at contact, dead pull approach, flashes pop in bat with inconsistent contact, 84 mph exit velocity. Usable glove, appropriate footwork around bag, makes routine plays, accurate arm, 72 mph arm across infield.

Carter Langreck, C, Waverly-Shell Rock, 2019
5-foot-8, 170-pound right-handed hitting catcher. 4.66 home-to-first time. Square stance with slight crouch in upper half, leg kick trigger, deep contact in zone, works mid/away, consistent solid contact, 78 mph exit velocity. Avg. receiver, some rigid movements behind plate, quicker release on throws, length to exchange, lower slot on throws effecting carry. 2.20-2.37 pop times with 66 mph arm strength.

Alec Lechner, 2B, Linn-Mar, 2019
5-foot-8, 155-pound right-handed hitting second baseman. 4.49 home-to-first time. Crouched stance, leg kick trigger, hitchy rhythm in swing, inverted path to contact, 75 mph exit velocity. Heavier feet, usable glove, long release on throws, carry and accuracy to bag, 72 mph arm across infield.

Aiden Lubs, RHP, Clinton, 2019
6-foot-2, 260-pound right-handed pitcher. Quick tempo to balance point, short stride down mound, falls over front side on release. Fastball had slight cutting action at 66-69 mph. Inconsistent shape on breaking ball; tends to back up at plate. Wobbly action on changeup for strikes at 59-62 mph.

Jasper Luckritz, C, Clinton, 2020
5-foot-7, 145-pound right-handed hitting catcher. 4.49 home-to-first time. Pre-set hand load, lacks rhythm in swing, oppo approach with ground ball contact, squares baseball consistently. 77 mph exit velocity. Raw mechanics behind plate, extra movements with body receiving, should improve with instruction and additional strength. 2.44-2.52 pop times with 69 mph arm strength.

Gannon Manfull, 2B/RHP, Ballard, 2018
6-foot, 165-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 4.1 home-to-first time. Square stance with slight body load, simple mechanics, repeats swing well, consistent solid contact with flashes of pop in bat to pull side of field, 85 mph exit velocity. Long clean arm actions, avg. feet and hands, accurate throws to bag, 79 mph arm strength across field. On mound; shows body control, solid explosion down mound with direction, lands with slightly stiff legs. Short arm action with downhill plane to fastball. Fastball was 80-82 mph for strikes. 11/5 breaking has tight rotation with small break. Changeup is thrown with stiff wrist, is firm, with occasional run and sink.

Jacob Manternach, C, Monticello, 2018
5-foot-11, 180-pound right-handed hitting catcher. 4.03 home-to-first. Square stance with leg kick trigger, slight hitch in load, clean elevated path to contact, flashes pop in bat to pull side of field, 87 mph exit velocity. Strong setup, presents target well, avg. receiver, clean exchanges with quick release, needs improvement with feet and direction, throws have carry and accuracy, 1.97-2.07 pop times with 74 mph arm strength.

Ryan Manternach, 3B/RHP, Monticello, 2018
6-foot-1, 210-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 4.71 home-to-first time. Square upright stance, tall to fall weight shift through contact, hard contact to oppo gap when extended, line drive and flyball contact, 86 mph exit velocity. Heavier feet in field, solid glove, make routine plays, above avg. accuracy to bag, 79 mph arm across infield. On mound; controlled mechanics, high leg kick, swings open to plate, ¾ arm slot with extension. Fastball showed flat action to plate at 77-79 mph. 11/5 breaking has avg. shape and depth to plate. Shows feel for zone with changeup with solid fade.

Blake McGraw, C, North Linn, 2018
5-foot-11, 170-pound right-handed hitting catcher. 4.51 home-to-first. Slight open stance, strides to square, straight legs in swing, underneath at contact with uphill swing plane, oppo contact, 81 mph exit velocity. Narrow setup behind plate, avg. receiving skills, ¾ arm slot, tends to throw uphill at times, 2.13-2.2 pop times with 72 mph arm strength.

Joe Morrison, RHP/2B, Muscatine, 2018
6-foot, 170-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. Controlled to balance point, up and over delivery to plate, shows direction and extension to plate. Fastball was 77-79 mph with solid life showing with flashes of running action. Early break on curveball with 12/6 shape to plate. Shows solid feel for changeup with appropriate fade. 4.27 home-to-first time. Leg kick trigger, active load, lift in swing path, mid/oppo field approach, 87 mph exit velocity. Shows appropriate footwork, glove is usable, makes routine plays, long release on throws, solid accuracy to bag, 80 mph arm across field.

Nolan Osland, OF/C, Muscatine, 2017
6-foot-1, 185-pound-handed right-handed hitting 2-way player. Physical athlete with present strength and speed. 3.8 runner home-to-first. Explosive down the line with fast twitch actions. Simple swing, wide base, line drive swing plane, works middle of field, flashes pop in bat, 93 mph exit velocity. Shows athleticism with raw actions and mechanics in field, fields with two hands consistently, arm is accurate with carry to target, 85 mph arm from outfield. Solid target, works hard to receive, athleticism and attitude to block, raw footwork and exchanges on throws, 2.05-2.14 pop times with 81 mph arm strength.

Maxwell Packingham, C, Cedar Rapids Kennedy, 2020
6-foot-1, 190-pound left-handed hitting catcher. 4.65 home-to-first. Strong setup in box, strides hard across body, dead pull approach, flashes strength and pop in bat, 80 mph exit velocity. Square upright stance, aggressive receiver with strong glove hand, clean exchanges to throw, appropriate footwork and direction, 2.21-2.34 pop times with 67 mph arm strength.

Reed Pegram, RHP/C, Ankeny Centennial, 2017
6-foot-1, 175-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 4.12 home-to-first time. High back elbow setup, good balance in swing, line drive approach, consistently squared baseball with gap to gap approach, 81 mph exit velocity. Solid actions in field, usable glove, ability to throw from multiple angles, accurate to bag, 80 mph arm across infield. Athletic actions behind plate, shows ability to receive, length to exchange, above avg. carry and accuracy to bag, 1.95-2.03 pop times with 78 mph arm strength. Short arm action with ability to command zone. Athletic actions and repeats delivery well. Throws on downhill plane with late sinking action. Fastball was 80-82 mph; touching 83 mph. 68-71 mph breaking ball with 12/6 shape and avg. depth. 73-74 mph changeup was firm with flat action.

Lewis Peters, 3B, Eastern Allamakee, 2020
5-foot-10, 155-pound right-handed hitting third baseman. 4.56 home-to-first time. Square stance, leg kick trigger, solid bat speed for age, inverted bat path to contact, uses middle of field, 82 mph exit velocity. Active feet, plays through ball well, plays with energy and confidence, avg./ok hands, accurate throws to bag, 71 mph arm strength across infield.

Riley Reed, C, Cascade, 2019
5-foot-9, 170-pound left handed hitting catcher. 4.4 home-to-first. Strong setup in box with rhythm, pull approach, some lift in swing plane, flashes pop in bat from middle to pull side of field, 84 mph exit velocity. High elbow receiving, shows ability to work underneath baseball well, long exchanges and works around plate on throws, 2.20-2.35 pop times with 67 mph arm strength.

Connor Reed, RHP, Pekin, 2019
6-foot-1, 195-pound right-handed pitcher. Above avg. frame on mound. Physical stature with solid present strength. Varies from ¾ to side arm slot. Live arm producing fastballs in the the 82-86 mph range. Sharp break on curveball from both slots. Avg. fade and feel for changeup. Interesting projection on mound with arm strength and ability to show different looks from varying slots.

Benjamin Rupe, OF, North Polk, 2017
5-foot-8, 175-pound right-handed hitting outfielder. 4.41 home-to-first time. Square stance with solid base, simple swing, balanced, short to contact, pulls off at contact, solid barrel contact, 85 mph exit velocity. Solid actions in field, OT slot, accurate to target with avg. arm, 80 mph arm from outfield.

Ben Schroeder, OF, Quincy (IL), 2017
6-foot-2, 190-pound right-handed hitting outfielder. Physical athletic frame. 4.32 home-to-first time. Open stance, arm bar in load, flat swing plane, works middle of field, flashes of pop in bat, 87 mph exit velocity. Avg./solid actions in field, tends to sit back, long arm action, accurate to target, 81 mph arm from outfield.

Andrew Swartz, SS, Bellevue, 2020
5-foot-8, 135-pound right-handed hitting shortstop. 4.46 home-to-first time. Square athletic stance, solid bat speed, line drive approach, consistent solid contact, 75 mph exit velocity. Showed some of the best feet and hands at event, light on his feet, good energy, has confidence in glove, accurate to bag, 70 mph arm across diamond.

Joel Vaske, C, Dyersville Beckman, 2018
6-foot, 185-pound right-handed hitting catcher. Athletic build with present strength. 4.12 home-to-first time. Showed consistent ability to barrel baseballs. Open stance, toe tap trigger, deeper load, solid bat speed, flashes pop to pull side of field, 91 mph exit velocity. Above avg. ability to receive and catch, strong hands, quiet movements behind plate, works deep through batters box, hitchy release, solid accuracy to bag, 2.19-2.22 pop times with 72 mph arm strength. Has requisite tools and ability; should see improvement with proper footwork and work on exchange and release.

Roman Villhauer, RHP, Iowa City, 2018
6-foot-5, 175-pound right-handed pitcher. Long lanky frame. Projects to continue to add more velocity. Long arm action with slight wrap on backside. Has direction to plate with average extension and use of lower half. Fastball was 80-82 mph, delivered on slight downhill plane, with running action. 11/5 breaking flashes solid depth and shape for strikes. Changeup has late run with avg. fade for strikes.

Torell Washington, SS/RHP, Pekin, 2018
5-foot-9, 183-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 4.2 home-to-first time. Present strength, simple load, works middle of field, ground ball and line drive contact, 91 mph exit velocity. Avg. feet and hands, works through ball, low ¾ arm slot, turns over on release, accurate to bag, 79 mph arm strength across field. On mound; travels across rubber, back turn to catcher, pie arm action. Heavy feel and cut action to fastball at 78-80 mph. Curveball has inconsistent shape and break to plate. Firm changeup flashes occasional fade and arm-side movement.

Colby Wigham, C, Dallas Center-Grimes, 2020
6-foot-2, 145-pound switch-hitting catcher. 4.47 home-to-first time. Similar setup from both sides of plate, clean path, mid-pull approach, has better strength and pop from right-side, 81 mph exit velocity. Receives with thumb underneath, extra movement with glove, 2.32-2.39 pop times with 67 mph arm strength. Should continue to see improvement with gains in strength and maturity.
