The Fall Review West was held on Saturday, October 22nd at Saint James School in Hagerstown, Maryland. 20 players from across the state and Virginia were in participation for the event playing in front of the PBR Maryland scouting staff on a windy day. Today we break down the event with player analysis of the 2018 class.

Ryan Aruanno RHP Massaponax (VA) 2018
Lean projectable frame at 6-0, 145lbs.  Throws from an over the top arm slot with a repeatable delivery. Arm action is long and smooth. Showed average arm speed. Pitched 70-72mph with a fastball that showed limited movement.  Threw curve ball 57-59mph. Curve ball had 11/5 shape with average rotation and good downward action.  Threw slider 60-62mph showing 10/4 shape with loose rotation. Threw changeup 60-62mph with near fast ball arm speed showing some sink on it. Arm strength should increase as he gets stronger.

Colton Bare RHP Boonsboro 2018
Athletic frame at 6-foot-1, 170-pounds. Throws from an over the top arm slot. Pitched with good rhythm and balance. Long, easy arm action and with above average arm speed through release.  Pitched 80-83mph with fastball. Threw breaking ball 64-67mph. Curve ball had 12/6 shape with good rotation and downward action on it. Threw change up 71-73mph with near fastball arm speed showing sink and fade on the pitch.  Interesting 2018 to follow on the mound going forward.

Miles Christian OF St. Mary’s 2018
Athletic frame at 5-foot-10, 150-pounds.  Ran a 7.50 60-yard dash. Hits from a balanced set up. Good rhythm through load into stride. Average bat speed with a level bat path with slight lift at times. Exit velo of 78mph. Bat speed should increase as he gets stronger with a solid approach already in place. Active feet in the outfield with soft hands and clean exchange. Works through the ball well. Has a loose and easy arm action. Throws showed accuracy at 70mph from the outfield.

Ryan Cloude RHP Massaponax (VA) 2018
Has a strong frame at 6-foot-1, 185-pounds. Throws from a ¾ arm slot and pitches with some effort. Repeatable delivery with a compact arm action. Pitches from right side of the rubber while landing closed creating a difficult angle for hitters to pick up release on pitches. Pitched 77-80mph topping out at 82mph with his fastball. Slider showed 10/4 shape with average spin and sweeping break. Threw slider 65-67mph. Threw changeup 67-69mph with average arm speed showing sink and slight run on it.

Matthew Day OF Riverdale Baptist 2018
Athletic frame at 5-foot-11, 180-pounds. Ran a 7.07 60-yard dash. Hits from a square, athletic set up. Shows nice rhythm through load and stride. Weight stays over back side at times through swing. Short bath path with a level swing path to the ball. Good extension through contact. Exit velocity of 80mph. Active feet in the outfield with soft hands and a clean exchange. Worked through the ball well. Has an easy arm action throwing from a high ¾ arm slot. Throws topped out at 70mph from the outfield.

Joe Fellona C Marriotts Ridge 2018
Compact frame at 5-foot-8, 145-pounds. Ran a 7.98 60-yard dash. Hits from a balanced, square set up. Smooth load with limited stride. Short path to the ball with an uphill swing path. Shows overall balance in swing. Exit velocity of 78mph. Slightly open set up receiving. Soft hands and sticks balls well. Quick exchange and sound footwork to throwing position. Short, quick arm action throwing from a ¾ arm slot. Throws to second base were 71mph. Pop-time ranged from 2.18-2.29.

Tyler Retherford 1B Damascus 2018
Strong frame at 5-foot-10, 190-pounds. Ran a 8.06 60-yard dash. Hits from a wide, square setup. Preloads weight on backside with limited movement in load.  Up and down timing used in front foot stride. Level path to the ball with some lift through contact. Good bat speed, shows power potential. Exit velocity of 93mph. Sound feet around the bag. Throws from a ¾ arm slot with a long low effort arm action. Throws across the diamond at 72mph.

Cole Rinehart OF Boonsboro 2018
Athletic frame at 5-foot-11, 180-pounds. Ran a 7.35 60-yard dash. Hits from a slightly open, athletic set up. Smooth load to hitting position. Good rhythm and balance throughout swing. Quick hands to the ball with an uphill path through contact. Uses bottom half well. Exit velocity of 89mph. Sound feet in the outfield working through the ball. Has long, loose arm action throwing from a ¾ arm angle. Gets tall at times on throws, getting over front side more will improve carry. Throws from the outfield at 73mph.

Ethan Wentzlaff OF Damascus 2018
Athletic frame at 6-foot-0, 170-pounds. Ran a 7.01 60-yard dash. Hits from a balanced, square set up. Shows nice rhythm in swing. Short path to the ball with a middle approach. Level swing path with good extension through contact. Good use of bottom half and hip drive. Exit velocity of 92mph.  Active feet in the outfield with soft hands and a clean exchange. Has quick, compact arm action throwing from a high ¾ arm slot. Throws from the outfield had some carry at 77mph. Interesting 2018 to follow going forward.
