The PBR Oklahoma staff is constantly on the lookout for the top players in the state, and since the last update in late May, 50 new players enter the 2019 rankings.  There has been a few big jumps made along with some shuffling at the top. This talented crop of players has continued to progress with many being featured prominently on the national stage. Count on PBR Oklahoma to continue to track down the top players and provide the most information for Sooner State prospects.

Top 3

SS/RHP Bryce Osmond (Jenks HS) climbs into the top spot thanks to a recent spike in velocity that has risen as he has added strength to his highly projectable 6-foot-3, 175-pound frame. The Oklahoma State recruit makes up for any rawness in his game with elite athleticism as a two-way player. On the mound, the right-hander has dialed it up to 91-94 mph multiple times this summer with a lively fastball that seems to jump on hitters. Osmond’s low 80s slider is already an above average pitch by the highest standards, with a chance to become plus in the near future. Defensively, Osmond shows off the same high end arm strength with advanced speed, athleticism, and smooth defensive actions. His skill set and frame could have him sticking at SS or allow him to transition to third base or even center field at the next level.

RHP Kale Davis (Westmoore HS), an Oklahoma State commit, moves to number two on the list simply because we can’t have two number ones. The 6-foot-4, 210-pound muscular right-hander continues to prove himself as one of the most polished pitchers in the country. Davis commands four pitches to both sides of the plate, including a high spin rate fastball that sits 89-91 mph and touches 92. He also features a knee-buckling curveball that he confidently throws in any count. He mixes in an above average changeup and slider that he throws with full arm speed as well. Davis continuously dominated lineups throughout the spring, and summer has been no different. Perhaps his most impressive performance came at the Tournament of Stars where he handled a lineup of the top prospects in the 2019 class with ease. Davis will most likely be a weapon immediately for the Cowboys if he makes it to campus.

3B/OF Blake Robertson (Edmond Santa Fe), another Cowboy, has continued to refine his already high level hit tool despite being out for almost the entire spring season. The long 6-foot-4, 185-pound left-handed hitter used his short stroke put on impressive displays of hitting at both the area code trials, making the team, and at the OK State Games. Robertson is also an advanced runner with wiry strength and an above average arm, giving him some versatility defensively.

The Risers
During the late winter and early spring, a number of prospects have shown they deserved to move up in the rankings. While many made a jump, a few in particular took their game to the next level.

RHP Caleb Burchfield (Catoosa), the biggest riser in this rankings update, 84 spots, Burchfield showed a velo jump and an impressive four pitch mix with command at the OK Top Unsigned Senior Games at the beginning of the summer.

OF Conner Womack (Miami), up an impressive 69 spots, the athletic outfielder has put on substantial size and strength to go with his advanced speed.

C Nick Sizemore (Pryor), jumping nearly 50 spots, the defensively advanced catcher proved he could hit for a high average as well. Sizemore’s leadership behind the dish helped lead Pryor deep into the state tournament.

Notable Newcomers

Previously under the radar, a few players have popped up in a big way. Below are a few of the notables.

RHP Brenton Beck (Atoka), a long and projectable right-hander, Beck burst onto the scene by touching 90 at the OK Top Prospect Games and followed it up with another strong performance at the OK State Games.

RHP Caden Pogue (Stillwater), the right-hander has been on a steady rise since we first got a look at him in the early spring commanding a mid to upper 80s fastball down in the zone to go along with an advanced changeup and short slider.

RHP Joey Morrrow (Owasso), a durable right-hander, didn’t get much mound time last year with Owasso’s loaded staff. Now throwing strikes with an upper 80s, Morrow will likely be called upon in some fashion to help get the Rams back to the state tournament.
