What's New At The Top

This summer we at PBR have been scouring all across the state looking to see who the best of the best are in Ohio. In the end, there has been some shuffling in our list of top players in the 2020 class. Below we look to highlight the top ten.

Mackenzie Wainwright OF / Saint Edward , OH / 2020

Mackenzie Wainwright maintains his spot at No. 1 in the class. Wainwright is a low risk-high reward prospect with the potential to be a five tool guy down the road. The OF has garnered attention from a multitude of Power 5 conference programs after his performances on the biggest stages this summer.

Andrew Clelland 3B / RHP / Harrison Central, OH / 2020

Two-way talent Andrew Clelland moves from the No. 3 spot to the No. 2 spot. The Pittsburgh commit has the look of a potential starter on the bump with attributes that make him interesting as a corner infielder as well. Don’t be surprised if the 6-foot-4 right-hander ends up being an upper-80s arm and a power threat at the plate.

Jordan Stevens OF / 3B / St. Edward, OH / 2020

Jordan Stevens (St. Edward) used an impressive summer to make his way up to the No. 3 spot in the 2020 class. The recent Kent State commit has proven to be one of, if not the top pure hitter in the class. Coach Rosinski has to be excited about having him and Wainwright in the same outfield for the next three seasons.

Seth Logue RHP / SS / Moeller, OH / 2020

Moeller’s Seth Logue comes in at the No. 4 spot. Logue has been in the recruiting spotlight over the past year, garnering attention from a multitude of D1 programs. The righty possesses advanced pitchability highlighted by a mid-80s fastball that projects for more to come.

Brady Emerson OF / LHP / John Glenn, OH / 2020

Few improved their stock over the summer more than Brady Emerson. The common message from scouts after watching Ohio Elite Ratcliff was, “Man, that Emerson kid can play.” The speedy outfielder out of John Glenn HS looks to be a true centerfielder that will fit nicely at the top of the lineup at the next level.

Tyrel Goings LHP / 1B / Defiance, OH / 2020

At No. 6, we have another newcomer in two-way talent Tyrel Goings. The Defiance HS product has as high of a ceiling as any in his class. Already has seen the fastball run up to 84 mph and should see an easy increase in velocity under the tutelage of coach Tom Held. On top of his upside on the mound, Goings also has the potential to be a routine power threat at the plate from the left-side. The middle of the order hitter shows gap-to-gap pop.

Jack Steibel RHP / 3B / Moeller, OH / 2020

In the No. 7 spot we have 6-foot-5, right-handed hurler Jack Steibel. Steibel has a very projectable, long limbed frame with a ton of room to add. Out of Moeller HS, Steibel has a clean arm and shows all the signs of more velocity to come. Currently has ran his fastball up to 85 mph.

Wyatt Hudepohl RHP / 1B / St Xavier, OH / 2020

Wyatt Hudepohl is a two-way talent out of St. Xavier HS. Hudepohl moves up to the No. 8 spot after his solid summer. A good athlete who can swing it from the right-side and has a mid-80s fastball. Time will tell where he ends up but the future is bright with tools, frame and athleticism.

Patrick Suter LHP / 1B / Moeller , OH / 2020

At No. 9 is Patrick Suter. The southpaw out of Moeller HS has a very strong, projectable 6-foot-4 frame. Competed for Team Ohio and at Top Prospect Games. His top performance came at TPG where he showed of an 80-84 mph fastball, dominating in his outing.

Chad Rogers RHP / 1B / Mentor , OH / 2020

Rounding out the Top 10 is the big right-hander Chad Rogers. A 6-foot-4 arm who is still growing into frame. Arm is clean and on time and he shown a fastball up to 84 mph. Remains a high follow moving into 2018.

The Newcomers

Every summer we are blessed to be able to scour the great state of Ohio finding new talented prospects from each corner of the state. Below we look to highlight a few of the newcomers into the Class of 2020 Player Rankings.

Kyle Jackson SS / OF / Bowling Green, OH / 2020

Outfielder Kyle Jackson (Bowling Green) came onto the scene at our Southern Ohio Prospect Games. A good athlete with twitch at the plate from the left side. Should grow into some power as he fills out his athletic, projectable frame. Also projects to be a well above average runner. The Kent State commit made his way up to No. 12.

Aidan Longwell OF / 1B / Massillon Washington, OH / 2020

Aidan Longwell (Massillon Washington) really made a name for himself at the 2017 Top Prospect Games, standing out for his abilities at the plate. A very smooth swinger that has feel for the barrel. Already generates easy gap pop with some natural loft power and he is still far from his ceiling physically. Longwell joins fellow Kent State commit Jackson in the top 15, landing at the No. 14 spot.

Justin Silverstein SS / RHP / Turpin, OH / 2020

Rounding out the top 15 is the smooth fielding shortstop out of Turpin HS Justin Silverstein. Started as a freshman on the Varsity squad and earned second team all-league honors. We got a chance to see Justin at the Buckeye Elite and immediately invited him to the Underclass Trials II at Miami (OH). His two standout performances were enough to earn a spot on Team Ohio. Silverstein is an advanced defender up the middle and is well on path to being a true shortstop at the next level. Bat should progress into an above average tool as he fills out frame.

Josh Romans SS / RHP / Jackson, OH / 2020

Josh Romans makes his way into the rankings, earning the No. 16 spot. Romans’ measurables won’t jump off the page but he can flat out play. We saw him in the spring as the starting shortstop for the eventual state champions Jackson HS. He was impressive enough to bring to the Future Games where he did more than hold his own. A reliable defender that has feel for the middle infield. Reacts well off the bat and shows above average lateral mobility. Also seemed to always find the barrel with his compact, line drive swing.

The Arms

Year after year Ohio is littered with talented arms across the Buckeye State and the class of 2020 is no different. Below we look at some of the top arms in the class.

Gavin Feichtner RHP / 1B / Colonel Crawford, OH / 2020

RHP Gavin Feichtner’s (Colonel Crawford) outing at our Underclass Games and projectability land him inside the Top 20. The No. 19 player in the class has a very projectable 6-foot-4, 175-pound frame. Arm action is mostly clean and he throws a heavy fastball that got up to 82 mph. Projects for more. Should be a high follow for colleges throughout 2018.

Benny Roebuck RHP / Bryan, OH / 2020

RHP Benny Roebuck also came onto the scene when he competed at our Underclass Games. Arm is loose and on time, generating a fastball that was up to 84 mph. Delivery doesn’t require a ton of effort and velocity should continue to rise as frame allows. Also spins a sharp breaking ball with feel.

Spencer Giesting LHP / OF / Hamilton Badin, OH / 2020

At No. 23 we have LHP Spencer Giesting. We got the chance to see Giesting’s outing in the Buckeye Elite this summer. The Cincy Flames ace checks all the boxes college coaches look for in a young mound prospect. Frame is athletic with room to fill out at 6-foot-2. Arm works and the ball jumps out of his hand with little effort. Will sit 78-80 mph with his fastball, and we’ve seen him up to 81 mph. Also will show to above average secondary offerings. It’s very early but he has the look of a potential starter down the road.

Two-Way PRospects

Two-way prospects are coveted in baseball and below we focus on two of the top two-way talents in the class.

Logan Danzeisen OF / RHP / Sylvania Southview, OH / 2020

RHP/OF Logan Danzeisen is a very good athlete who has a bunch of tools to work with. We first saw Logan at our Underclass Trials I, where he earned a spot on Team Ohio. A versatile defender that looks the part in the outfield but also started a shortstop for Sylvania Southview HS as a freshman. At the plate he is a fluid swinger that has some twitch through the zone. An all fields hitter that has feel inside the box. On the mound he has three pitches in his repertoire, highlighted by a fastball that has been up to 86 mph. Danzeisen goes from unranked to inside the top Top 15, settling in at No. 13.

Trent Jones RHP / OF / Jackson, OH / 2020

At No. 20 we have Jackson’s Trent Jones. A 6-foot-3, put together prospect who could have a bright future on the bump or at the plate. Stands out for his natural tools at the plate. Path has some loft to it, allowing him to lift the ball with ease. Really can do damage to the baseball, especially when he gets those long levers extended. On the mound he has a low 80s fastball that has topped at 83 mph. Much more velocity to come. An exciting prospect that will be fun to watch develop over the next few years.
