The OK 2020 class continues to prove it is one of the most talented and deepest states in the country. The class has a possibility for double digit high school draft picks which will flood the state with professional scouts this spring similar to 2011 when OK produced three first round and a second round draft pick. There have already been nearly 30 D1, 35 JUCO, and a handful of D2 commits from our relatively small state. It has been just over four months since our last overhaul of the OK 2020 rankings. While there has not been any major rises or falls to be noted, there have been 25 new prospects added to this edition of the rankings, stretching it to the top 225 players that we have seen. A handful of the new additions land in the top 100 (see below). Typically we also look at the top 3 prospects from each class in a rankings update, but with OK having four players in the top 100 of the 2020 overall rankings, we decided to give them each a look.

The Four Top Prospects

Staying in the top spot, despite likely being out this spring is LHP Dax Fulton (Mustang HS). With all players in this circumstance PBR, chooses to rank players where they left off before having to miss time. Recently switching from Vanderbuilt to an Oklahoma recruit. The 6-foot-6, 205-pounder had easily one of the best summer of any prospect, with some MLB organizations considering him to be the best high school left hander in the country by the end of it. Fulton shows off an impressive four-pitch mix, all thrown for strikes. His fastball sits 90-93 mph touching 94 with downhill tilt and occasional cut. Fulton also mixes in a two-seam fastball with late life. The curveball is, at times, one of the better breaking balls in the 2020 class at 77-79 mph with 1/7 shape and late depth to go along with tight spin. The changeup has late fade and sink at 76-81 mph. Fulton’s athleticism also shines through in the left-handed batters box where he shows pop and barrel control.

Holding the No. 2 slot is two-way baseball player and two-sport star SS/RHP Cade Horton (Norman HS). Horton has committed as a dual sport athlete to Oklahoma, signing up to throw the football for the Sooners as well as play baseball. On the mound, Horton’s athleticism allows him to be a consistent strike thrower. The right-hander features an advanced slider which he throws in any count to both sides of the plate in the upper 70s with full arm speed and very late depth. His fastball took another step forward this summer showing consistent arm side run at 92-94 and touching 96. Horton is also a high end defender with advanced hands and the elite arm strength to make plays anywhere on the left-side of the infield. His greatest asset is his baseball IQ and aptitude to be in the right place at the right time. At the plate, the right-handed hitter has an all fields and flat approach with a knack for finding barrels.

Moving up to the No. 3 slot with added size and speed is left-handed hitting OF Jace Bohrofen (Westmoore HS), a recent Oklahoma commit. Bohrofen has easily put up the best offensive resume over the last two seasons of high school baseball in OK and has continued to add power, speed, and arm strength to his already polished game. The 6-foot-1, 175-pound left-handed hitter possesses a sweet swing and shows impressive power to all fields, making quick in at-bat adjustments. Through he played first base for his HS team last season, Bohrofen’s athleticism make him an attractive option as a corner outfielder at the professional level.

In the No. 4 spot in the Oklahoma rankings is Arkansas commit RHP/OF Nate Wholgemuth(Owasso HS, OK). Wohlgemuth is barrel chested and thick legged with impressive strength throughout his 5-foot-10, 200-pound frame jam packed with elite strength. He has a controlled delivery that he can repeat when he is locked in. His fastball saw a spike back up to and past where we had previously seen him at the end of the fall, now sitting 93-95 touching 97 mph. He possesses a near plus changeup with fade and sink at 84-88 that he throws with confidence in most counts. His curveball shows 11/5 shape flashing late depth and tight spin. Offensively, his athleticism shows through with a 91 mph exit velo and a 6.72 laser timed 60. Defensively, he shows athletic actions in center field and excellent arm strength, throwing 95 mph from the outfield.

Newcomers

The PBR Oklahoma staff is always on the lookout for talented players across the state, and we pride ourselves on constantly evaluating and discovering new players. Below are five new players that surfaced late this summer and into the fall.

Braydyn Escarcega, SS/RHP, Allen HS
A 6-foot, 175-pound proportional frame. Offensively, the right-handed hitter shows an efficient and clean swing, showing some pop with an 89 mph exit velo and a knack for finding the barrel against good arms. Defensively, shows fluid lateral movement and solid actions with an accurate arm.

Austin Neal, RHP/OF, Verdigris HS
A lean and projectable 6-foot-1, 175-pound frame. Offensively, the right-handed hitter shows a flat path with some bat speed and an all fields line dive approach with mostly barrels in BP. Shows confident actions in the outfield with an above average arm and accuracy. Neal really shines on the mound through, filling up the zone from a side arm slot. Fastball has late life with some arm-side run at 83-84 mph and showing both a slider and splitter as off speed offerings.

Kellen Pokoski, RHP/OF, Owasso HS
A lean, long, and projectable 6-foot-3, 165-pound frame. Offensively, the right-handed hitter shows leverage in his swing and a pull-side approach with lift (88 mph exit velo). On the mound, shows a quick arm coming through an over the top slot, producing some downhill tilt at 81-84 mph with mostly strikes. Curveball shows 12/6 shape with late depth as a chase pitch at 67-68 mph. Changeup shows consistent fade at 73-74 mph.

Noah Miller, OF, Edmond North HS
A lean and projectable 6-foot-3, 185-pound frame. Offensively, the left-handed hitter shows an all fields and flat approach, barreling almost every ball in BP. Miller also shows solid athleticism in the outfield running a sub 7 60 and producing throws with some accuracy at 84 mph and carry.

Jacob Bookout, RHP, Oklahoma Christian School
A physically impressive 6-foot-6, 205-pound frame with room to fill out and add strength. On the mound the long right-hander threw mostly strikes with some downhill tilt and occasional cut at 80-83 mph. Also mixed in a curveball at 68-69 with 11/5 shape and some late depth.
