The annual Preseason All-State (2019's) took place Sunday, February 18 at Lawrence North HS in Indianapolis.  A total of 80 players from Indiana's Junior class participated in the event.

Top Prospect

Avery Short LHP / 1B / Southport , IN / 2019 Rankings  StateRank: 1 / POS: 1 OverallRank: 108 / POS: 9  6-foot-2, 210 pound left-handed pitcher continued to impress on Sunday showing an increase in fastball velocity.  Fastball sat 87-89, touching 91.  Up twenty pounds from last year, his frame and mound presence is up there with the best of the best.  Short has clean, easy delivery down the mound.  Lower half stays in line, transferring energy well.  Short arm action into a high 3/4 slot.  Finishes athletically.  Repeatable delivery.   Slider is a plus out pitch, showing late depth and sharpness at 76-77mph.  He has feel for his curveball that shows a true 1/7 shape and good rotation at 72-75mph.  Change-up has some arm side fade.  Plus pitch ability and feel for the strike zone.  Short continues to climb up the ranks as one of the top left-handed pitchers around.  Indiana recruit.

Cooper Williams RHP / OF / Heritage Christian, IN / 2019 Rankings  StateRank: 15 / POS: 10   6-foot-1, 200 pound pitcher has added some strength and physicality since the PBR Future Games.  Fastball sat 85-87 with late run, sink.  Slider has sweepy action with late depth at times.  Both are plus potential pitches, already showing late movement on multiple planes.  Change-up is continuing to develop, featuring a few that had late depth, fade.  Williams has a low 3/4 slot with a quick hand.  Low front side, early at times.  Drop and drive type delivery with some effort.  Xavier commitment.

Aaron Chao LHP / 1B / Angola, IN / 2019 Rankings  StateRank: 16 / POS: 2 6-foot-1, 175 pound southpaw is a very twitchy, athletic arm.  Features a 3/4 slot with a quick hand.  Fastball sat 85-86 with late run and some sink.  Breaking ball is already a plus out pitch, showing late depth in a 1/7 shape.  Change-up needs developed, but did flash some late fade and arm side sinks times.  Raw, young delivery that can see more velocity very soon if he gets into his lower half.

Damon Cox LHP / 1B / Pike, IN / 2019 Rankings  StateRank: 17 / POS: 3  Athletic, 6-foot-3, 195 pound left-handed pitcher continues to impress with smooth tempo and pace down the mound.  Loose, quick arm creates late movement on all pitches.  Fastball was up to 86 for strikes.  Creates good separation while maintaining direction.  Breaking ball has 2/8 shape with late depth.  Change-up is a plus pitch already, and continues to develop.  Threw a few that featured late, hard sink.  Cox should continue to see his velocity climb as he matures.  Northern Kentucky commit.

Maguire Ayres RHP / SS / Scecina Memorial, IN / 2019 Rankings  StateRank: 19 / POS: 11 6-foot-3, 175 pound right-hander showcased a raw, athletic delivery.  Fastball up to 90, sitting 87-89.  Long arm swing, quick hand.  Throws from a high 3/4 slot.  Will need to clean up timing and finish as he matures.  Breaking ball featured 11/5 action at 74-75 with downhill action at times.  Slows arm on change-up, creates some fade.  Ayres is a high follow with his arm strength and frame that will continue filling in.

Brian Gaffney RHP / OF / Center Grove, IN / 2019 Rankings  StateRank: 20 / POS: 12 Stocky, 5-foot-10, 215 pound right-handed pitcher was up to 91 with the fastball, sitting 89-91.  Drop and drive delivery.  Stays in line, lands soft.   Short, quick arm action.  Breaking ball has a tendency to stay arm side but did flash a few with tight spin and 11/5 shape.  Change-up is flat, shows some arm side fade.  Simple delivery with plenty of arm strength.

Marek Bauner RHP / SS / Crown Point, IN / 2019 Rankings  StateRank: 26 / POS: 14 6-foot-2, 160 pound pitcher showcased improved velocity on the mound, getting his fastball up to 86-87, touching 88.  Smooth rhythm, drop and drive delivery.  High 3/4 slot with arm speed.  Breaking ball has 11/5 shape with consistent downhill rotation.  Able to throw it for a strike at 73-74.  Change-up has arm side run and some depth.

Blake Sarjent RHP / 3B / McCutcheon, IN / 2019 Rankings  StateRank: 28 / POS: 15 6-foot-1, 190 pound right-handed pitcher features a very quick arm, running his fastball up to 88mph.  Long arm swing, slight wrap.  Thick lower half.  Drop and drive type delivery.  Fastball has late run with life.  Curveball has slurve action, 10/4 shape with depth.  Slider has tighter spin, more late action.  Showcased a few plus sliders that can continue to develop into a true out pitch.  Change-up will need to develop as arm slows and creates some arm side fade.  Delivery has rhythm, stays in line with shoulders.  Finishes athletically with a firm front leg.  Physical kid with potential to continue adding velocity.

Ryan Fender RHP / Crown Point, IN / 2019 Rankings  StateRank: 29 / POS: 16 6-foot-3, 200 pound pitcher works downhill with good pace and rhythm.  Deliberate pace.  Lands squared, in line.  Easy effort.  Fastball sat 82-83.  More velocity to come.  Strike thrower.  Breaking ball has 11/5 shape with late depth.  Change-up has arm side run, some sink at 70-72.  Athletic frame that continues to fill in.   Murray State commit.

Jake Lautenschlager RHP / 1B / West Vigo , IN / 2019 Rankings  StateRank: 37 / POS: 17 6-foot-4, 200 pound pitcher has an impressive frame with some athleticism in the delivery.  Fastball sat 84-86, up to 88.  Command will need to improve as he cleans up timing in his delivery.  Quick tempo, creates some drift in load.  Arm swing is loose, quick.  High 3/4 release.  Breaking ball is young and lacks identity.  Featured a few with tight spin and downhill rotation.  Change-up sat 78-79 with some fade.  Jake lands firm, topples over front leg.  High follow with his frame and present arm strength.

Gabe Fleace RHP / 3B / Corydon Central, IN / 2019 Rankings  StateRank: 38 / POS: 18 6-foot, 187 pound right-handed pitcher features a fastball up to 89, sitting 87-88.  Some downhill plane on the fastball, commanded at the knees well.  Breaking ball has late depth, potential plus out pitch at 77-78.  Tilt to topple delivery with short arm swing into high 3/4 slot.  Some stiffness in the arm.  Good balance.  Lands squared, in line.  Uphill shoulders, above average tempo down the mound.

Christian Graf RHP / 3B / Providence, IN / 2019 Rankings  StateRank: 40 / POS: 19 6-foot-1, 185 pound right-hander showed added strength and physicality on the mound.  Fastball ran up to 89, sat 86-88 for strikes.  Long, slight hitch in the arm swing as he gets into a 3/4 slot.  Good tempo throughout.  Lower half is slightly closed off, finishing around the front leg.  Breaking ball has early, loopy break at 70-72.  Change-up featured some sink and arm side run at times.

Jeffrey Bryant LHP / OF / Speedway, IN / 2019 Rankings  StateRank: 49 / POS: 5  6-foot-1, 145 pound southpaw features a quick arm and high effort delivery.  Loose, long arm swing into a 3/4 release.  Fastball featured some late downhill run at 84-85, touching 87.  High, firm front side.  Explosive lower half, lands squared and finishes athletically.  Off-speed needs to continue developing, often getting underneath the breaking ball.  Curveball did feature some depth in a 1/7 shape, just needs to improve consistency.  Stretch only, with an open setup.  Bryant is an interesting follow as he fills in his lanky, athletic frame.

Jakob Meyer RHP / 3B / Columbus North, IN / 2019 Rankings  StateRank: 51 / POS: 21  6-foot-3, 205 pound right-handed pitcher sat 86-87 with a fastball showing some arm side sink.  High effort delivery, controlled tempo.  Drop and drive after balanced load.  Falls off to first base side, lacking firmness in front leg.  Short arm swing into 3/4 slot.  Breaking ball has 11/5 shape with some flashes of late depth.  Change-up is straight with fade.  Big, physical frame that fills the strike zone.

Peyton Schofield LHP / 1B / Cathedral, IN / 2019 Rankings  StateRank: 53 / POS: 6 6-foot-2, 185 pound left-handed pitcher sat 81-82 with some late arm side run at times.  Overhead wind-up delivery with some rhythm.  Short, quick arm action. High 3/4 slot.  Breaking ball flashed depth in 1/7 shape at 67-69.  Change-up is thrown with stiff wrist, showing some arm side fade.  Good frame, controlled pace with feel for the strike zone.  Should see velocity bump in the spring.

Kegan Hoskins RHP / OF / Penn, IN / 2019 Rankings  StateRank: 55 / POS: 23  6-foot-6, 220 pound pitcher has a physical, projectable frame on the mound.  Deliberate pace, average tempo.  Short, stiff arm swing.  Quick hand.  Downhill plane on the fastball.  Sat 82-84, up to 85.  Projects for more velocity.  Inconsistent command, but improving.  Breaking ball has deep 11/5 shape, some showcasing late depth.   Movements are raw, but improving each time we see Hoskins.

Jeffrey Ballard LHP / OF / Munster, IN / 2019 6-foot-1, 155-pound left-handed pitcher, lean lanky frame. High leg kick with toe lift leads to weight shifted onto backside, high front side gives shoulders slight uphill tilt. Arm action is short on back side, works out of high ¾ slot. Fastball is straight, flat four seam type, worked top of zone, topped at 75 mph, sat 73-74 mph. Curveball has gradual 12/6 action, 64-67 mph. Changeup showed sink, near fastball arm speed, 67-68 mph.

Blake Barrett RHP / OF / Floyd Central , IN / 2019 Rankings  StateRank: 89 / POS: 35 6-foot-4, 200 pound right-handed pitcher was up to 85, sitting 84-85 with the fastball.  Physical frame, strong lower half.  Some twitch.  Long, stab on backside of arm swing.  Stiff wrist.  Breaking ball has loopy action at 66-68.  Change-up sat 71-74 with some fade.  In the box, balanced setup with slight leg kick.  Rushed tempo.  Quick barrel.  Strong hands.  Present gap to gap power.  Plays with flat feet in the outfield, average hands.  Long arm swing, throws up to 79mph.

Cory Bosecker LHP / Evansville Central, IN / 2019 Rankings  StateRank: 60 / POS: 7  6-foot-3, 180 pound left-handed pitcher sat 80-81 with late arm side run and sink.  Strike thrower.  Breaking ball has 1/7 shape with gradual break.  Easy effort, room for more velocity to come.  Stays in line, lands closed.  Long arm action into 3/4 slot.  Has rhythm, good pace down the mound

Jacob Brunelli RHP / 3B / Hamilton Southeastern, IN / 2019 Rankings  StateRank: 135 / POS: 49 6-foot-3, 165 pound pitcher has a drop and drive delivery with good pace and tempo.  Loose arm swing into high 3/4 slot.  Fastball sat 80-81, up to 83 for strikes. Curveball has 11/5 shape with some depth at 71-73.  Change-up showed late fade to his arm side with near fastball arm speed.  Lands squared, firm.  Finishes athletically.

Zack Dobos RHP / SS / Lake Central, IN / 2019 Rankings  StateRank: 118 / POS: 43 5-foot-11, 155-pound, athletic two-way prospect. Offensively, balanced setup, hands start high, drop on load. Takes aggressive swings, sees the ball well. On the mound, long arm action form an over-the-top slot. Fastball, hard downward angle, 82-84 mph. Curveball, 11/5 shape, fastball arm speed.

Sam Gall RHP / 3B / Zionsville, IN / 2019 Rankings  StateRank: 133 / POS: 48 6-foot-1, 190 pound pitcher features a long arm swing into high 3/4 slot.  Tall to fall delivery.  Average use of lower half.  Fastball sat 79-80 with some arm side run.  Breaking ball is a potential plus out pitch, showing late depth in 11/5 shape.  Able to throw it for strikes.  Change-up is thrown with a stiff wrist, showing some arm side fade.

Connor Gill RHP / SS / Lapel, IN / 2019 Rankings  StateRank: 138 / POS: 51  6-foot-3, 180 pound frame.  Right-handed pitcher has a deliberate pace and good tempo down the mound.  Short arm swing, some looseness and average hand speed.  Sat 78-80, up to 81 with the fastball.  Loopy breaking ball has 11/5 shape at 68-71.  Thrown for strikes.  Lands squared, finishes upright.

Change-up fades to the arm side at 76-78.  Should continue see velocity improve as he gets stronger.

Michael Hoppel OF / 3B / Martinsville, IN / 2019 Rankings  StateRank: 79 / POS: 15 5-foot-10, 175 pound pitcher ran his fastball up to 85, sitting 82-84 on the mound.  Slight run, average command.  Short, quick arm action.  High 3/4 slot.  Drop and drive delivery.  Lands squared.  Breaking ball was erratic, at times showing 11/5 shape.

Maalik Houston SS / RHP / Lawrence North, IN / 2019 Rankings  StateRank: 129 / POS: 21  5-foot-9, 160 pound right-handed pitcher has a high 3/4 slot with short arm circle.  Uphill shoulders, stays in line.  Rushed tempo at times.  Lands squared.  Raw delivery, will need polished as he matures.  Fastball sat 78-79, up to 80.  Breaking ball has gradual break at 65-67.  Change-up showed flashes of late arm side run, but flattened out at times.

Joshua Johnson OF / RHP / Center Grove, IN / 2019 Rankings  StateRank: 87 / POS: 16 6-foot, 180 pound right-handed pitcher has a quick arm with some late life on his fastball.  Sat 83-85 with erratic arm side sink.  Breaking ball flashed power break with 11/5 shape.  Inconsistent movement.  Change-up has near fastball arm speed with some fade.  Delivery stays in line, lands squared.  Choppy rhythm.  Shoulders are downhill.  Slight inward turn at top of load.

Drew Kelly 1B / LHP / Carmel, IN / 2019 6-foot, 190 pound left-handed pitcher sat 77-79 with slight run on the fastball.  Loose, clean arm swing into a 3/4 slot.  Drop and drive delivery.  Breaking ball has loopy 1/7 shape at 59-62mph.  Change-up has arm side fade at at 66-68.  Strong lower half, easy effort down the mound.

Conner Madding RHP / OF / Avon, IN / 2019 6-foot-4, 175 pound pitcher has a drop and drive delivery with long arm swing into 3/4 slot.  Simple load, easy effort down mound.  Deliberate pace, choppy at times.  Lands soft, open.  Lacks separation.  Fastball sat 80-81, up to 82 with some arm side run.  Breaking ball has loopy, gradual break in an 11/5 shape.  Change-up fades to arm side with a slowed arm action.

Logan Missal RHP / 1B / Lowell, IN / 2019 Rankings  StateRank: 73 / POS: 30 6-foot-2, 190 pound pitcher has an overhead wind-up delivery with good balance in load.  Long arm swing, 3/4 slot.  Above average arm speed.  Stride leg swings out, lands soft.  Arm side run on the fastball sitting 82-85.  Commands it to his arm side.  Breaking ball has 11/5 shape with downer action.  Stays arm side.  Change-up also has arm side sink with a slowed arm action at 73-75.

Andrew Olssen RHP / SS / Carmel, IN / 2019 Rankings  StateRank: 103 / POS: 39  Right-handed pitcher has a balanced load with some rhythm down the mound.  Short arm swing, some quickness in the hand.  Lands soft, lacks extension in the front leg.  Fastball sat 80-82, topping 83 for strikes.  Breaking ball has 11/5 shape with early, gradual break.  Change-up is thrown with near fastball arm speed and has arm side fade.

Gavin Patrick RHP / 1B / Shenandoah, IN / 2019 6-foot-5, 225 pound pitcher has a big, physical frame.  Delivery has some rhythm, stays in line.  Overhead wind-up into a good balance point.  Lands squared, lacks firmness.  Fastball is straight, sitting 80-82.  Breaking ball has 10/4 shape with some late tilt.  Potential out pitch.  Change-up has fade at 75-77, thrown with a stiff wrist.  Potential for more velocity to come with his frame and arm speed.

Brayton Reed RHP / SS / Terre Haute South, IN / 2019 Rankings  StateRank: 143 / POS: 55 On the mound, Reed has a drop and drive delivery with a high 3/4 slot.  Long stride, backside tends to collapse.  Above average arm speed.  Fastball sat 81-82, touching 83.  Breaking ball has loopy 11/5 shape with gradual break.  Change-up has some arm side fade.  Strike thrower, high effort.

Justin Reed SS / 2B / Martinsville, IN / 2019 Rankings  StateRank: 149 / POS: 25  On the mound, delivery has some rhythm and effort.  Overtop slot, stab on the backside.  Average arm speed with a fastball sitting 81-82, touching 83.  Commands the fastball.  Breaking ball has 12/6 shape with gradual break.  Missed down often.  Change-up features arm side run.

Reece Rodabaugh RHP / SS / Lewis Cass, IN / 2019 Rankings  StateRank: 80 / POS: 31 6-foot-3, 185 pound pitcher has a physical frame with long legs.  Long arm swing into a 3/4 slot.  Stiff lower half, closed off at times.  Arm side sink on the fastball sitting 82-85.  Commands his arm side well.  Breaking ball showed flashes of sharpness, at times popping up out at the hand.  Change-up is thrown with near fastball arm speed, showing some fade at 72-76.

Jack Ross RHP / 1B / Harrison, IN / 2019 Rankings  StateRank: 110 / POS: 41 6-foot, 220 pound right-handed pitcher has a thick, strong lower half with good tempo down the mound.  Drop and drive delivery.  Stays in line, good balance throughout.  Clean, loose arm swing into 3/4 slot.  Fastballs at 82-84 with some run.  Breaking ball showcased some sharpness at times in an 11/5 shape.  Change-up fades to the arm side at 75-78, stiff wrist at times.

Adam Spalding RHP / 1B / Floyd Central, IN / 2019 Rankings  StateRank: 96 / POS: 37 6-foot-6, 180 pound pitcher creates downhill plane with a fastball showing late sink at 80-81.  Commands his arm side well.  Average balance and tempo in a tall to fall delivery.  Short arm swing, looks cleaner than previous showcases.  Breaking ball has 10/4 shape with some late tilt.  Needs to fill in his frame still, but more velocity to come if it happens.

Jake Stout SS / RHP / Hamilton Southeastern, IN / 2019 Rankings  StateRank: 66 / POS: 8 On the mound, Stout has a quick tempo with level shoulders.  Fastball up to 85. Short, fast arm circle.  Lands squared, finishes upright.  Erratic command.  Breaking ball has 11/5 shape with gradual break, inconsistent at times.   Quick twitch athlete.

Zachary Tackett 2B / RHP / OUR LADY OF PROVIDENCE, IN / 2019  5-foot-10, 165 pound pitcher has smooth rhythm and tempo down the mound.  Drop and drive delivery.  Clean, loose arm swing.  Lands squared, firm.  Fastball sat 77-79, up to 80.  Slight arm side run on the fastball.  Breaking ball has 11/5 shape with some late depth at times.  Change-up fades to the arm side.

Zach Vogt RHP / 3B / Carmel, IN / 2019 Rankings  StateRank: 82 / POS: 32 6-foot-1, 184 pound right-handed pitcher has a drop and drive delivery with good tempo down the mound.  Loose arm swing into 3/4 slot.  Stride is slightly open, gets firm over front leg.  Fastball sat 82-83 for strikes.  Change-up is best pitch, showing late depth and arm side run.  Breaking ball has 11/5 shape at 68-71.  Showcased adjusted timing variation in wind-up, controlled well.

Jon Vore RHP / OF / Fishers, IN / 2019 Rankings  StateRank: 67 / POS: 27  6-foot-1, 190 pound pitcher works at a deliberate pace in the wind-up with balance throughout.  Short arm swing into high 3/4 slot.  Quick hand.  Lands open, over rotates.  Fastball sat 84-86, up to 87.  Breaking ball has 11/5 shape with some sharpness, erratic command.   Change-up sat 78-80, thrown with a stiff wrist.

Gavin White RHP / SS / Western, IN / 2019 Rankings  StateRank: 155 / POS: 59  5-foot-11, 150 pound pitcher has a long arm swing into a 3/4 slot.  Slight inward turn in load, rushed tempo at times.  Some effort down the mound.  Lands squared, in line.  Fastball sat 79-81, straight.  Curveball has 11/5 shape with gradual break.  Change-up fades to arm side at 70-73.
