Scouting Report

At the plate, the 6-foot-3, 180-pound left-hander shows balance with a simple, direct approach. His bat speed and leverage through the zone suggests that he may find much more power in the future. As an infielder shows loose, athletic actions, with soft hands while making throws with accuracy and carry, and cleanly fielding balls from side to side.

The Prep Baseball Report Mississippi scouting staff recently sat down with Seminary third baseman to discuss his recent commitment to Pearl River Community College. Below is a transcript of our question and answer session:

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process?
Norris: I did not really know what to expect about the recruiting process. All I knew was what I had been told by others who had been recruited.  So, I thought if I were ever lucky enough to be recruited, I would enjoy it. I also knew that I wanted to weigh all my options before making my decision.

PBR: Did location or distance from home play a factor in your decision?
Norris: Yes, the location and distance did play a huge factor in my decision. I wanted to stay close to home, so I could have the support of my family and friends.

PBR: Where did the college you chose first see you? How did your relationship develop with them?
Norris: The college I chose first saw me at Seminary at the beginning of my junior year.  We spoke after the game and have been in almost constant communication ever since.

PBR: Who is the best player you have faced in your state, and why?
Norris: The best player I have faced in the state would have to be Drew Boyd.  He is an elite all-around player. At the plate, he is a very consistent hitter with power, and an excellent left handed pitcher.

PBR: At what point in your career did you realize you were an elite player and became serious about taking your game to the next level?
Norris: I had a really good freshman year and that was when I realized that with hard work and dedication I could possibly take my game to the next level.

PBR: What were you looking for out of a college program to continue your baseball career at?
Norris: I was looking for a program where I felt I could develop the most and get plenty of playing time. I was also looking for somewhere I felt truly wanted and connected with the coaches.

PBR: What is your best attribute as a baseball player and how does that transfer onto the field for your team?
Norris: I feel like my best attribute is my attitude. I always strive to be positive even in a game designed for failure. I believe that positivity, like hitting, is contagious, and I feel like my teammates feed off of that energy.

PBR: What part of your game needs the biggest improvement, why, and what will you do to improve it?
Norris: There is always room for improvement in every aspect of the game, but I feel that I need to improve most on my fielding and foot work.  I hope to improve by taking countless ground balls and working extremely hard on agility drills.

PBR: What advice would you give to young baseball players striving to get where you are?
Norris: I would encourage young players to work hard every chance they get and never give up.  Always do the extra rep.

PBR: What do you do in the offseason to keep yourself in baseball shape and prepare for the upcoming season?
Norris: I normally play summer and fall ball to keep the rust knocked off until the regular season starts. However, I was unable to play this summer due to Tommy John surgery, so I have concentrated more on strength and conditioning than I ever have.

PBR: What do you like most about the college you committed to and what were the key factors in making your decision?
Norris: I feel a connection with the coaching staff and players. I think I will get the most development from their program while getting ample opportunities to play.

PBR: What other schools were on your short list before you made your final decision?
Norris: I was considering Jones County Junior College, East Central Community College, Meridian Community College, The University of New Orleans, and Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.
