SAN DIEGO SWING: ALL-STAR GAME AND HOME RUN DERBY

For the second straight year, the San Diego Padres presented the countywide high school All-Star Game and Home Run Derby immediately following the Major League game between the Padres and Philadelphia Phillies. That game featured two 26-year old players in Manny Machado and Bryce Harper who signed contracts this past off-season totaling 23 years and $630 million dollars. This game featured teams that were broken up by way of the 805 and 15 freeways to create the West and East.

What started as a display of the county’s quality pitching depth quickly vanished with an offensive onslaught by both teams in the middle and later innings totaling 23 hits. The West prevailed 7-3 over the East.

Without a home run during the regular season, hitting his first of the year at a major league stadium. Defensively played in center-field and third base.

BEST 1 INNING PITCHING MATCHUP:

Ricky Tibbett v Stephen Klenske

Both starters handled opening inning moment well and cruised through the first three batters. Klenske named county pitcher of the year for the division two champions Sage Creek Bobcats and Ricky Tibbet the pitcher of the year runner-up for the open division champion Eastlake Titans. Both pitches should make an immediate impact at Sacramento State and San Diego State respectively.
