Shooter's Shortlist: Northeast & Canada 2026s
April 20, 2023
As the season inches towards summer and the recruiting trips get planned, a look into the must-see uncommitted underclassmen that PBR’s Vice President of Scouting, Shooter Hunt, is circling for college coaches to plan around.
CANADA
Sean Duncan LHP / Langley Blaze, BC / 2026Rankings OverallRank: 84 / POS: 2
|
William Labonte RHP / Okotoks Dawgs Academy, AB / 2026Only a freshman, Labonte’s maturity and polish on the mound are well beyond his years, and he already showcases feel for four pitches (fastball-change-cutter-curveball). Up to 85 mph in a March bullpen, the young right-hander pounded the zone with all four while using a shorter takeaway out of the glove with quickness out front. The ease of operation and awareness of efficient movement patterns combined with the quick arm should provide for significant advancements to be made in coming years.

Lucas St-Laurent RHP / 2B / cole Okotoks, AB / 2026Another wiry-athletic right-hander from Canada with a whippy arm? Yes. The 5-foot-11, 160-pounder is an easy mover with some dynamic athleticism down the mound, and his high ¾ slot released from a lower height should present some outlier data sets that promise future in zone misses with the fastball. St. Laurent was up to 86 mph in a March bullpen for PBR Canada, and that number should continue rising later this summer. The athleticism and quickness of the arm are more than enough to warrant early (and often) looks at the young pitcher.

Jack Murray SS / OF / Noble and Greenough, MA / 2026Rankings StateRank: 6 / POS: 1
Murray has the look of a player who is going to gain plenty of admiration from college coaches thanks to blue-collar approach and especially a simple, fluid left-handed stroke. Built with a compact and athletic 5-foot-9, 162-pound frame, there is a natural rhythm in the box as he gains strength from the ground up with a more direct path showing quickness of the hands with a gap-to-gap, line drive approach. |
