Scouting Report
12/22/17- Wake Forest recruit. Stands at 6-foot, 180 pounds with a strong, athletic frame. Has gotten noticeably more physical in his upper body over the fall/winter months. Behind the plate Miller really stands out as he shows a quality setup with soft hands and a quick, clean transfer. All his throws to the bag were on line and accurate as he topped out at 81 mph with pop times ranging from 1.88-1.93 seconds. Offensively, he has an advanced approach from the left side where he displayed pull-side pop and produced multiple hard hit line drives. Displays good instincts, stays calm and relaxed in the box. Miller is one of the top follows in his class and will only continue to improve as he logs more innings behind the plate.
06/29/17- Committed to Wake Forest University.
01/21/17- The 5-foot-11, 170-pound left handed hitting catcher did not to fail to impress again at the Preseason All-State. With two hits on the day, multiple scouts in attendance believed he was a Junior or Senior currently. He has an advanced approach offensively and the path through the zone works well. At times he can cut himself off, but he has a feel for the barrel and as he learns to clear his hips it will generate power has he already has a strong lower half and will continue to fill out. Defensively is where he really impresses. He easily received high velocity arms without dragging ball out of the zone. He has above average hands, a quality setup and will be a plus defensive catcher. Very easy 2.0-2.05 with clean transfer and accurate throws. Could become a bit more quick to release as everything is very smooth and under control. Overall another impressive day both offensively and defensively handling much older, premium arms.
12/15/16- Stands at 5-foot-11, 170 pounds with a projectable, athletic build. At the plate he showed an advanced, confident approach with good balance in his set up. He has a smooth swing from the left side with good hands and above average bat speed. Uses all of the plate along with some pull-side pop. Good plate discipline. Behind the plate he displayed a quick release with pop times in the 1.9-2.1 range and throws that were accurate to the bag. On the mound he showed athleticism and a fastball with movement that sat 80-81 mph and a curveball that had bite to it at 66-68 mph. Fell off the side on his follow through. As he continues to mature and develop, Miller will continue to be regarded as one of the top prospects in his class.
09/17/16- The 5-foot-10, 165 pound left handed hitting catcher shows above average all around tools. Offensively, a calm and confident approach and big leg kick trigger keeps him on time and balanced throughout his swing. A slightly uphill path, his bat stays in the zone a long time with above average bat speed. A gap-to-gap approach led to consistently line drive and flashes of above average pull side power. Behind the plate, he shows the ability to both receive and block at an above average level, with strong wrist and athleticism. He could improve on the flexibility and setup lower, but that will come with more games caught. Also showed a good transfer and quick feet while staying under control with pop times that ranged from 2.02-2.08. The all around skillset is already above average and he project to have a plus bat and above average catcher which is why he is one of the best 2020s in the state.
