The 2018 high school regular season has come and gone in the blink of an eye. As playoff action around the state kicked off earlier this week, there are several talented seniors around the state who remain unsigned as the summer approaches. Today, the Prep Baseball Report Mississsippi scouting staff highlights three 2018 prospects that are still looking for an opportunity to continue their careers.

 

 

Landon Cochran RHP / 3B / Madison-Ridgeland Academy, MS / 2018

Currently ranked No. 139 in Mississippi’s 2018 class. Long-limb 6-foot-2, 185-pound frame. Right-handed pitcher throwing from high-3/4 release with short arm action and regular effort. Smooth rhythm, with level shoulders, in-line direction, working around front side. Fastball sat 78-82 mph, with mostly straight action and throw for a strike. Breaking ball showed 11/5-shape with developing spin, near fastball arm speed, and solid depth at 67-68 mph. Change up showed slight arm side action with near fastball arm speed at 69-70 mph. Right-handed hitter with tall, open setup with loose rhythm in hands and short stride. Left-center field approach with a rotational path and length, produced an exit velocity of 81 mph. Defensively showed active feet as he worked through balls athletically with soft hands, slow, clean exchanges into a short high ¾ arm stroke, recording a positional velocity of 76 mph.  Also ran a 7.44 60-yard dash.

Derral Lott Jr. OF / 2B / Mendenhall, MS / 2018

Medium build, right-handed hitter hits from athletic setup, with hands resting on shoulders working with a toe tap load. Stiff rhythm with rotational stroke and level path; produced exit velocity of 78 mph. Deliberate footwork with short, stiff arm stroke that produced a positional velocity of 70 mph

Rodricus Watkins OF / Wayne County, MS / 2018

Athletic 6-foot-1, 185-pound frame with room for projection. Right-handed hitter that starts from tall setup with hands starting at shoulder height with bat waggle rhythm. Smooth, simple load working closed with short stride and balanced. Line-drive/ground ball contact and bat speed that produced an exit velocity of 86 mph. Defender with receptive hands, showing fluid footwork, clean exchanges, and plays through the ball athletically producing an outfield velocity of 82 mph.
