Washington HS Scout Blog (3.21.22)

Dan Jurik
Scouting Director - Pacific Northwest

Monday kicked off another busy day of coverage as we had multiple games being played in a short radius which allowed for catching a 4 PM start and 7 PM start.

We kicked off the evening by checking out one of the top 2023 prospects in the state with Sebastian David (Lakeside) facing off against the Everett Seagulls. Lakeside won by a final of 5-3 after falling behind early 2-0 to start off the game.

After that, we hustled over to Woodinville HS for some KingCo action as they faced an experienced Redmond squad.

Senior RHP Cole Uyematsu was the standout performer on the night as he tossed 5 scoreless en route to Redmond securing a 5-0 win.

3.21.22 - Lakeside, everett, redmond, woodinville

Sebastian David, SS, Lakeside, 2023, Stanford commit One of the top ‘23 prospects in the state, David had a big day offensively going 2-3 with a 2B, R, 2 BB and SB. Offensively he showed the ability to protect with 2 strikes and adjust his approach. The strength at point of contact helps him stay inside of the ball and hit for power even when he has to be a bit more defensive. At SS, he handled his opportunities well and the arm strength is showing improved carry across the diamond as well as flashing a tighter, more compact arm action.

Teddy Tokheim, INF, Lakeside, 2025 A name to know in the loaded 2025 class for Washington, Tokheim went 2-4 with a 2B, R, 2 RBI and BB. Really impressed back in February at our All-State event, posting mid 90’s EV with his bat and running the FB up to 86 mph. Showed flashes of power on this look with aggressive hacks and impressive bat speed. Should be a key fixture for both sides of the ball for Lakeside as they have an extremely young and up-and-coming roster.

Hayden Dearie, INF, Lakeside, 2022, NYU commit Dearie does not get cheated at the plate. The senior 3B took aggressive hacks all game and eventually connected on a hard, oppo line drive for a clean single at the midway point in the game. Defensively he showed a solid glove at the hot corner and has the arm strength needed to get the ball across the diamond in a hurry.

Sam Kirley, LHP, 2022, LakesideHighly effective outing in relief, consistently changing speeds and keep hitters off balance. Finished with a final line of 3 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 4 K.

Colin Stout, OF, Everett, 2022. Got the offense started early with a 2 R double in the first inning. Stout hits from a tall, upright stance with some slight bend in his lower half. Shows a classic, left-handed uphill swing path that produces easy loft when he connects. Solid runner once get gets underway.

Eddie Deil, 1B, Everett, 2022. One of the more physical bats on display this game, Diel had a multi-hit performance and flashed the ability to work from gap-to-gap. Stays tall and relaxed in the box before taking a controlled leg lift into forward stride. Hands stay inside of the ball with a level swing path into the zone.

Austin Paul, SS, Redmond, 2022 Highly capable uncommitted prospect who was outstanding on defense and at the plate on the night. Made a couple nice plays coming in on some slow rollers and have no issues handling the slick ball off of wet turf. At the plate, he works middle/oppo and keeps his hands tight and inside of the ball with a level, compact swing. Uncommitted.

Cole Uyematsu, RHP, Redmond, 2022 Tossed 5 scoreless innings with 5 punchouts against a talented Woodinville roster. Arsenal included a 3 pitch mix of FB at 80-83, SL at 75-76 and CB at 67-68. The SL especially acts almost like a cutter with his ability to consistently throw it for strikes and maintain FB arm speed. He consistently frustrated hitters with his ability to land strikes with his secondary pitches in big spots. Super calm and mature demeanor on the mound with an easy delivery and clean arm action. Uncommitted.

Cameron Bradford, RHP, Redmond, 2023 Highly effective relief appearance facing the minimum across 2 innings with 3 punchouts. Doesn’t overwhelm you with velocity but using breaking ball and CH effectively and spots up the FB in the bottom of the zone consistently. Creates some deception with a shorter arm action that hides the ball and then shoots it out from behind his right ear.

Ty Quiggle, 3B, Woodinville, 2023 Had arguably the best showing of any prospect on this look, going 2-3 with a 2B and was actually robbed of his 3rd hit on the night by a diving play from the 2nd baseman. Noticeably physical at about 6’1, 195 pounds, Quiggle looks to do damage but maintains an approach with controlled violence at the plate and doesn’t just take blind hacks. Athletically he fits at a corner INF spot with solid actions and plenty of carry in the arm. Uncommitted.

Brandon McKinley, SS, Woodinville, 2023 Made the most of his opportunities at SS on a chilly, wet night. Flashed a reliable glove hand with smooth, deliberate actions. Offensively, got things started off with a hard 2B down the LF line in his first AB but was held in check the rest of the night. The swing is a simple operation that should allow for contact and power down the road. Uncommitted.
