West TN Top Prospect Games Stats

The 2018 West Tennessee Top Prospect Games took place on Tuesday, July 24th at FedExPark, the home of the Memphis Tigers.  This event included a position player workout, followed by pitchers throwing live on the game mound. Players were afforded the opportunity to showcase their abilities in front of the PBR Tennessee staff and college coaches in attendance. The following is a look at the top statistical performances from the event.

TOP PITCHING VELOCITIES 

85 – Peyton Calitri, RHP, Collierville, 2019
84 – Zachary Jackson, RHP/1B, Collierville, 2019
83 – Luke Ellis, LHP/OF, St. Benedict at Auburndale, 2021
81 – Gabriel Nicholson, LHP, Collierville, 2019
81 – Miller Riggins, LHP, Houston, 2021
81 – Jordan Zuger, RHP, Hendersonville, 2021
80 – Mitch Sisk, 3B/RHP, Trinity Christian Academy, 2019

- Calitri, attending his first PBR event, made quick work in his 2 innings, retiring all 6 batters he faced and recording 3 strikeouts.  The righty touched 85 six times while attacking with an average FB velocity of 83.47.  He also mixed in a true swing and miss SL, throwing it for strikes 4 of 5 times and generating 2 of 2 swing and misses on the pitch.

90 – Ty Leatherwood, C/OF, Collierville, 2019
90 – Mitch Sisk, 3B/RHP, Trinity Christian Academy, 2019
89 – Brock Lomax, OF, Covington, 2019
88 – Kyle Bradford, 3B, Clarksville Northwest, 2019
88 – Tyler Byrd, 3B/SS, Tipton Rosemark, 2020
85 – Kylon Holder, OF/SS, Sacred Heart, 2019
85 – Jack Smith, C, Houston, 2020

- Leatherwood and Sisk, each attending their first PBR events, made strong impressions with their exit velocities.  Leatherwood, who transferred to Collierville last year, showed off strong tools across his profile.  Sisk, who served as the 3-hole hitter for TCA, had one of the best BP’s of the event, generating consistent hard contact to right center.

86 – Brock Lomax, OF, Covington, 2019
85 – Luke Ellis, LHP/OF, St. Benedict at Auburndale, 2021
80 – Ty Leatherwood, C/OF, Collierville, 2019

- Lomax, attending his first PBR event, showed off the arm strength that also makes him a high-level QB.  The 6-2, 180-pounder had arguably the best day of any of the position players, collecting 2 hits, including a triple while showing zero swing and miss and being in command of his at bats.  He also showed the speed to stay in CF at the next level, running a 4.37 from the right side. 

TOP IF VELOCITIES 

84 – Jalen Fithian, SS, Bartlett, 2020
82 – Tyler Byrd, 3B/SS, Tipton Rosemark, 2020
81 – Cole McCallum, SS, South Gibson County, 2020

- Fithian showed off his arm strength consistently in game and registered the top IF velocity on the day.  Featuring soft hands and good feet, the middle infielder stood out for his tools to stay at SS.  Also featuring premium speed, running a 4.29 from the right side, the infielder showed a lot of tools to follow.

1.96-2.00 – Ty Leatherwood, C/OF, Collierville, 2019
1.97-2.13 – Riley Davis, C, Collierville, 2019
2.04-2.09 – Jack Smith, C, Houston, 2020

- In addition to standing out with his bat, Leatherwood made a strong impression behind the plate.  Relying on mostly his above average arm strength, which helped him to a 82 mile per hour velocity from behind the plate, he showed the ability to catch base-stealers.

4.25 – B.J. Banyon, OF, Bartlett, 2020
4.29 – Jalen Fithian, SS, Bartlett, 2020
4.34 – Slater Schield, 2B, Independence, 2020

4.38 – Kobe Perkins, OF, Collierville, 2019

- Banyon, attending his first PBR event, showed off his raw speed, running a 4.25 from the right side.  Gets to top speed quickly and showed ability to utilize his speed in game, stealing a number of bases and putting a lot of pressure on the defense.  Offensively, showed a knack for finding the barrel, as he collected 2 hits
