Week in Review: 1/29 to 2/9

Looking back at the past two weeks for Prep Baseball, the annual Super 60 Pro Showcase took place and brought the next wave of MLB Draft prospects. The JUCO season is a week in with a shake-up at the top of the rankings, plus more from around the nation all in one place.


The 22nd Annual Super 60

On Sunday, Feb. 4, the 22nd Annual Super 60 Pro Showcase took place at The MAX in McCook, Ill., where 115 professional scouts watched the top prospects from the class of 2024. In over two decades of operation, the Super 60 has resulted in over 400 MLB Draft picks as well as 26 being selected in the first round see the results from the day here.

Data Dives

The Super 60 brought together arguably the best high school draft class since the pro showcase’s inception. Highlighted by tying the fastest FB in event history, each pitcher brought their next-level stuff that lit up the leaderboards. Managing Editor, Scouting Andy Sroka breaks down the pitching leaderboards and where prospects excelled here; and today we published the takeaways on the event's position players.

On The Hunt

With the chance to make a splash in the 2024 MLB Draft rankings, Vice President of Scouting, Shooter Hunt, presents 11 position players from the Super 60 that made an impact plus five sleepers here.

9 Arms to Know

Thirty-one pitchers stepped up on the mound at the Super 60, each with something different to offer. Looking into the future of the group with what over 100 scouts were able to see, Shooter Hunt presents nine pitchers to know that made an impact in Illinois.


NATIONAL NEWS

Draft HQ

+ January is never too early to talk about the upcoming MLB Draft in July. Prep Baseball's Draft HQ team brings you the top-200 draft-eligible prospects including 20 high schoolers in the top-50.

+ Director of College Scouting, David Seifert, analyzed the MLB Drafts between the years 2017 and 2021 and published his findings here. He introduced the topic within the previous link, and continued to break down each division, concluding the series this past week with the American League West.

JUCO WIRE

The NJCAA season kicked off on Friday, Jan. 26th. Taking center stage in the college baseball scene before the NCAA kicks off, our staff presented everything you need to know this season. Top Uncommitted

+ With changes in NCAA recruiting rules, there has been a bigger pool of seniors this year that remain uncommitted. State scouting directors around the country bring to you players from the class of 2024 that should be picked up before their graduation in the latest ‘Hotlist.'

+ With around 200 prospects from across California attending Preseason All-State events, some of the standouts remain uncommitted. Prep Baseball California's Steven Hardesty highlighted the top uncommitted outfielders across the state of California here – and it's a loaded list, as you might expect.


STATE-BY-STATE

Alabama

First pitch of Alabama’s high school season is nearly a week away and the class of 2024 prospect rankings have expanded. Alabama’s Scouting Director Austin Sharp dives deeper into the state’s top-5 in the senior class along with the full list.

Indiana

The state of Indiana featured seven prospects at the Super 60. Lead Scout Cooper Trinkle breaks down each prospect and their performance during the 2024 Super 60.

Missouri

On Saturday, February 3rd Missouri held their annual Preseason All-State event. Out of over 100 prospects from the class of 2024-2027, Central Region Media Director of Scouting Diego Solares gave the ‘Quick Hits’ on 14 catchers that stood out.

North Carolina

In a state that features over 400 college commitments a year, North Carolina is a hot bed for talent with competitive rankings. North Carolina’s Assistant Scouting Director Zach Boraski dives into two of the states top catchers in ‘Inside the Rankings’.

Ohio

Formerly known as the ‘Preseason All-State Showcase’, the Ohio Procase brings the state’s talent together for a premium event. As the Procase enters its eighth year, Dylan Hefflinger and the Prep Baseball Ohio Staff tell the event’s history before taking place on Saturday, February 10th.
