7/15/22

2022 MLB Draft League: Ewell stands out on the diamond for his physically athletic frame and tantalizing power-speed combo. He crushes fastballs (EVs up to 108-109) and shows potential average game power to the biggest parts of the ballpark, with his best/hardest contact going to RCF.

4/26/19

Eastern Kentucky commit, currently ranked No. 4 in the state and No. 104 overall. Has drawn pro interest this spring. 6-foot-3, 195-pound, right-handed hitting outfielder; highly-advanced, athletic, well-proportioned frame with plenty of room for continued physical development. One of the toolsiest, high-ceiling prospects in the state. Had a huge day offensively for the Redhawks. Went 4-for-4 with a three-run home run, a triple, five RBI’s and a run scored. Relaxed in box, open setup, pre-pitch rhythm, short stride and quiet swing. Loose hands, creates effortless bat speed, bat stays through the zone and has power to all fields. His three-run home-run was driven over the right-center field fence. Will occasionally get long and around the baseball when he tries to pull. Defensively, played left field. Unrefined outfielder, long, easy strides, uncertain routes. Did not show off his plus arm (94 mph at a previous event). High-ceiling 2019 right-handed hitter.

3/27/19

Eastern Kentucky commit. 6-foot-3, 200-pound hybrid athlete, long-limbed and broad-shouldered, highley athletic, checks off multiple tool boxes, high-ceiling. Plays left field and hits fifth for Marist, went 1-for-2 with a triple, a walk and two runs scored. Wide setup at the plate, minimal waisted movement, handsy hitter with rhythm in his swing, short to the ball. Expanded the zone a handful of times swinging over average breaking balls, weight out front. Ball flies off the bat when contact made, flicked his hands on the triple that landed on the warning track, gilded around the base, 4.60 on the turn, run tool is advanced.

9/16/18

Eastern Kentucky commit and currently ranked No. 27 in the Illinois’ 2019 class. 6-foot-3, 200-pound, right-handed hitting outfielder; extra-large, long-limbed, athletic, projectable build. Ewell, long known for his high-ceiling, has been taking huge strides in his game since the summer. At the plate, has some of the best raw power in the class. Made a lot of hard, loud contact over the weekend. Simple swing, minimal wasted movement, flashes electric hands and advanced bat speed. Launched a home run to dead-center field in the Championship game of the tournament. Doubled sharply to left in the morning game on Sunday and hit a double off the center field wall on Saturday. Should draw plenty of pro interest moving forward.
