Virginia Commit, 6-foot-4, 215-pound athletic sturdy build. Advanced athletic at the plate, Harris 100 mph exit velocity ranks him 1st at the event. (68.6 mph bat speed average). (23.1 mph hand speed average). Starts in a balanced athletic stance with a quick compact load, then uses a quick controlled stride. Bat speed is electric, displays a simple uphill swing plane and good extension on his finish. Created loud contact and found multiple barrels. In the infield, displayed a velocity of 79 mph; had a clean fluid exchange, consistent sure hands, and in control fluid footwork. Fielded the ball out front with athletic movement laterally. Had a ¾ slot and a consistent arm action with consistent accuracy to the bag. During the event, clocked a 60 time of 7.05. On the mound, showing lightning arm speed he had a consistent arm action and a high ¾ arm angle. Tilt-and-topple type pitcher and shows easy effort. Produced a fastball that came in at 85-88 mph and topped out at 90 mph; showed late action and command around the zone. (Max spin 2013; Avg 1862). Throws a 11/5 slider (74-77) with control around the zone and tight late action. (Max spin 2178; Avg 2078).

Got a chance to see the strong, athletic framed UVA commit. Plenty of projection left to the frame, and as noted a few weeks back in a previous scout blog, Harris is extremely young for his class. Harris was facing a fairly experienced and stout Cosby lineup. At times Harris struggled to find the zone and got into a lot of deep counts. However, he showed excellent poise, especially for his age and varsity experience. In multiple innings Harris worked out of multiple runners on situations. The delivery is pretty low effort, slower controlled pace, and throws from a high over the top slot. The fastball sat 82-84 throughout the outing and touched 85 a few times early on. The fastball played two different ways, really well down in the zone and flattened out up in the zone and that is when he tended to get hit. Because of the high slot the fastball played really well down in the zone, created downhill plane that missed bats and barrels. The breaking ball is still developing. He had feel for the 12/6 breaker, but lacked arm and hand speed therefore it was more of a gradual break. He did have feel for the pitch around the zone and threw it fairly consistently for strikes, especially in the first few innings. The first hitter of the game he walked on four straight fastballs because he was falling off of the pitch and the arm was dragging and the release was inconsistent. However, when he went to the stretch he got himself in line and stayed down the mound in line and was pretty effective after that. His line for the night was seven hits, five walks (a few deep counts and a few four pitch walks), and six strikeouts. It is a pretty easy 82-85 and there is definitely more in the tank, as Harris has a lot of growing and a lot of maturing left to do. Will be fun to follow this arm as he continues to develop.

VA/DC Scout Blog

Harris has a young projectable frame with some intriguing physical attributes for a player of his age. Length in the frame and plenty of room to fill out. Offensively starts from a balanced square stance that starts slightly upright. Hands are quiet on load and he walks away from the hands on stride to create slight separation. Short level path to contact and barrel is quick out of the zone. Shows some power potential in the frame and swing. Pull side tendency with more present power to that side. Defensively started at third base and made every play he had a chance on. Average hands, solid glove presentation, and above average arm strength across the infield. Does not appear real comfortable throwing on the run and changing slots. Is really accurate across the infield with some carry on throws. High ceiling with physical tools and is really young for his class so has a lot more room to grow as he adjusts to varsity baseball.
