One Southern Colorado prep baseball team claimed a state title and only one other remains standing following state tournament play this past week.

Holly captured its first state title with a 6-0 triumph over Fleming in the Class 1A state championship game on Thursday at All-Star Park. The game was a rematch of the 2013 championship game won by Fleming.

Pueblo West has reached the Class 4A state championship game following three consecutive victories in the double-elimination series.

Seven other Southern Colorado teams bowed out of the playoffs.

In Class 3A in northern Colorado, Lamar couldn't get out of the loser's bracket after falling to Faith Christian 5-0 in first-round play. The Savages did eliminate defending state champion Eaton 3-1 before getting ousted by University 5-4.

In Class 2A in Pueblo, six Southern Colorado teams were bounced from the postseason in the first round of the 16-team bracket at the Runyon Sports Complex in Pueblo. Defending state champion Rye dropped a 6-5 decision to Sedgwick County in 10 innings.

Sargent lost to Paonia 11-1, Crowley County fell to Akron 12-5, County Line lost to Limon 4-0, Swink was beaten by Dayspring Christian Academy 6-2 and Rocky Ford was blanked by Dawson School 5-0.

In the final four, Paonia will meet Limon and Sedgwick County will take on Dawson School at the Runyon Sports Complex. Both games are at 10 a.m. on Saturday. The winners will meet in the championship game at 1 p.m. at Hobbs Field.

The Cyclones (20-4) defeated Longmont 6-5 in 10 innings, Delta 7-1 and Valor Christian 9-6 in the winner's bracket final of the eight-team tournament. That pushed Pueblo West into the final four and an automatic berth in the championship game on Saturday at All-Star Park in Lakewood. It is the lone undefeated team remaining.

Pueblo West will meet Windsor (20-4) at 2:30 p.m. on Friday. Valor Christian (20-4) will take on Erie (16-8) in an elimination game at 10 a.m. Friday.

Regardless of Friday's outcome, the Cyclones will play for the championship. Should Pueblo West defeat Windsor, it will play at 10 a.m. Saturday in the championship game. Should it lose to Windsor, it will play at 12:30 p.m. Saturday in the championship game.

Junior Ian Garcia had a big day against Valor Christian to lead the Cyclones to their third win in the championship series. He blasted a three-run triple, his third of the game, in a four-run top of the seventh inning. That broke a 5-5 tie and pushed Pueblo West to a 9-5 lead. The Eagles scored a run on two hits in the bottom of the seventh inning to make the final 9-6.

Zach Maize earned his eighth win of the season against one loss, going six innings for Pueblo West. He gave up five earned runs on seven hits, striking out three. Alan Garcia, Ian's twin brother, also had a big day at the plate with three hits. Rocco Arguto, Dauson Tate and Luke Jameson also had two hits.
