2023 PBR Spring Training MVP: 2024 INF Ozzie Fitzpatrick

Cam Black-Araujo
Assistant Director, PBR Canada

With PBR Spring Training now two weeks in the rearview mirror, along with our post-event stat stories, our staff will begin rolling out the All-Tournament Teams, along with Most Valuable Player and Most Valuable Pitcher honours.

Our first individual honour going out is the Most Valuable Player which is strictly for a positional player. The award was selected using a combination of the players in-game performance and stats, as well as how they performed on Scout Day and the overall package of tools they bring to the table.

The 2023 PBR Canada Spring Training Most Valuable Player goes to 2024 SS Ozzie Fitzpatrick of the Ontario Prospects 17U's.

Fitzpatrick was on our radar heading into the tournament as a player who had a chance to make some noise and he did just that. The left-handed bat consistently made an impact on each game as he picked up multiple hits in a handful of games with many of them coming off the barrel for extra-bases.

"It seemed like every time you looked up throughout the week, Ozzie was rounding first base and heading into second for an extra-base hit," says Assistant Director of Canada, Cam Black-Araujo. "He showed barrel control and was aggressive in the box, consistently looking to do damage. There's still plenty more in the tank for Ozzie and he'll be a fun follow throughout the summer season."

Scouting Report

3/5/23

Uncommitted 2024 SS Ozzie Fitzpatrick is one of the top bats in the Ontario Prospects program and has developed well over the past couple years. 5-foot-8, 165-pound left-handed hitter who’s open and upright in the box with a quick, short swing and strong wrists.

Handled the bat well against college arms this fall and there looks to be more juice in the bat each time we see him. The glove looks to be behind the bat right now but he’s comfortable fielding balls to both sides at the shortstop position. An exciting, uncommitted 2024 bat with a chance to really break out in Florida.
