Nevada ProCase Preview: Sam Simon
October 14, 2020
Sam Simon comes into the PBR Nevada ProCase as the #10 ranked overall prospect in the 2021 class with legit two-way capabilities that should transition well to the next level. A large framed athlete with a strong, proportionate build has a fastball that sits in the upper 80's with downhill action and is complemented by two projectable secondary pitches. At the plate, he's has proven his ability to drive the ball with authority to all field throughout his high school career with a PBR Verified 96 mph Raw Exit Velocity taken at last years' Nevada State Games with more thunder expected in his bat at the end of the month. The UNLV commit comes out a Centennial program that has a history of producing prospects including CSN's Kris Bow who will be attending the PBR x CSN Pro Day. Simon is widely known as a competitor, a guy who always wants the ball and will be one of only a few prospects to showcase both on the mound and at the plate at the upcoming PBR Nevada ProCase with the projectable tools that may open some eyes.

Scouting Report
6-foot-3 195. Simon is physical in a large frame with present strength. He is not fleet of foot but profiles as a corner outfield, middle of the order type bat. Offensively, he has projectable power in a mostly pull side approach with a slightly uphill swing path. He recorded the second highest exit velocity of the event at 96 MPH off the tee revealing good strength and bat speed. He made loud contact during his batting practice rounds and carried it into game with multiple quality at bats. He kept his barrel in the zone well. Defensively, he has good arm strength with solid online carry, prototypical of a future rightfielder. He runs better underway and caught what he got to, but his lack of footspeed could land him at first base down the line if he continues to hit, for he may profile better on the mound at the next level.
Simon is a potential 2 way player but on the mound really passes the eye test as a prospect. Simon has a great build having a high waist and long levers with room to put on strength, all this adding up to a power pitcher. His delivery was fluid and moved well for size. Samuel showcased a FB ranging 86-88 with good carrying life in the zone. Samuel did not throw any change ups but did show a serviceable CB, 68-70. Samuel is currently uncommitted but that might not be for long as he will be on plenty of short list this fall and/or spring.
