On Sunday, February 22, Prep Baseball Report Virginia/DC hosted its second event of 2015, the Preseason All-State, for members of the 2016 graduating class. Over 80 players showcased their skills for PBR staff at Virginia Sports Complex in Ruther Glen, Virginia. All of these players will be eligible to receive an invite to the Super 60, which is the premier professional scouting event for high school baseball players. The Super 60 is held annually in Chicago, Ill. on Super Bowl Sunday prior to their senior season.  Here are the best from the event...Here is our analysis of the corner infielders from the event. Michael Blanchard, RHP/1B, Nansemond River, 2016
Hit from a tall and balanced stance.  Smooth load back with a short and simple stride.  Lower half showed good drive to the baseball.  Balance was maintained throughout entire swing.  Bat was quick through the zone with good extension.  Had a good approach to the round.  Very simple and low maintenance swing that should consistently spray line drives to all parts of the field.  In the field he threw from a high ¾ arm slot with a Positional Velocity of 75 mph.  Throws had some accuracy.  Footwork was clean, but was slow and on heels at times.  Exchanges were all clean.

Chris Coakley, 3B/RHP, Mount Vernon, 2016

Hit from a tall and balanced stance.  Load sunk down into legs.  Stride was an abbreviated leg kick that maintained balance and stayed on line.  Lower half stayed engaged during path to the ball.  Balance maintained throughout swing.  Exit velocity of 77 mph.  Bat dragged through the zone on occasion.  Swing path was level and should result in line drives.  In the field, he threw from a high ¾ arm slot.  Had some accuaracy.  Had a Positional Velocity of 68 mph.  Footwork was flat and on the heels.  Showed clean exchanges.

Christian Colangelo, 1B/LHP, C.D. Hylton, 2016

Hit from an athletic stance that was slightly crouched.   Swing had fluid rhythm.  Short load back with slight arm bar.  Short stride that maintained its line.  Lower half was aggressive to the ball.  Balanced was maintained throughout swing.  Quick bat with a swing path that was level and had good extension.  Bat exit velocity was 83 mph.  Stroke that should produce line drives with gap to gap power.  In the field, he threw from a high ¾ arm slot.  Throws were accurate.  Had a Positional Velocity of 74 mph.  Hands were soft with fluid footwork.  Footwork worked through the ball.  Exchanges were clean and quick.  Smooth fielding.

Cole Grinde, 1B, Caroline, 2016

Hit from a slightly crouched stance that is stacked on the back side.  Smooth load with a short and simple stride.  Stays stacked on back side during stride.  Lower half exploded to the ball.  Showed a fast bat with an Exit Velocity of 86 mph.  Swing path was short with good extension.  Solid approach to the round.  Stroke should produce line drives gap to gap with the potential for pull power.  In the field, he threw from a high ¾ arm slot that had some accuracy.  Positional Velocity of 77 mph.  Had soft hands and clean exchanges.  Footwork was clean, but was slow.

Brady Harju, 1B/3B, Battlefield, 2016

Hit from a tall and balance stance.  Stride was Inconsistent.  Had a toe tap stride and a leg kick stride, both of which were long.  Maintained his balance and stayed on line with his stride.  Lower half exploded to the ball.  Showed an explosive bat with an Exit Velocity of 94 mph.  Aggressive approach to the round.  Swing path was short to the ball and had good extension.  Stroke should find the gaps consistently with pull power.  In the field, he threw from ¾ arm slot that showed some accuracy.  Positional Velocity of 69 mph.  Had soft hands and made clean exchanges.  Footwork was methodical and on heels.


Teddy Herbert, RHP/1B, Washington & Lee, 2016

Hit from a tall and narrow stance.  Slight load back with an arm bar.  Leg kick stride that stayed on line and balanced.  Showed good bat speed with an Exit Velocity of 90 mph.  Swing path was level through the zone.  Stroke should result in line drives with gap to gap power.  In the field, he threw from a loose high ¾ arm slot. Had good accuracy with a Positional Velocity of 82 mph.  Throws had some carry.  Hands were somewhat soft with clean exchanges.  Footwork was clean, but lacked fluidity.


David Mocabee, 3B/MIP, Stone Bridge, 2016

Hit from a tall and athletic stance.  Small stride that maintained its line and balance.  Slight load back with lower half explosion to the ball.  Maintains his balance throughout the swing.  Showed a fast bat with an Exit Velocity of 89 mph.  Swing path stayed level with good extension.  Stroke should result in line drives with gap to gap power.  In the field, he threw from a loose ¾ arm slot.  Throws were accurate with a Positional Velocity of 84 mph.  Had soft hands and fluid footwork.  Played through the ball and demonstrated clean exchanges.


Mike Nickles, 3B/1B, Colonial Forge, 2016

Hit from a tall, wide stance.  Slight load back with a small stride that maintained its line and balance. Lower half stayed engaged throughout swing.  Good balance..  Had an Exit Velocity of 83 mph.  Swing path was short to the ball and had good extension on most swings.  Stroke should result in line drives.  In the field, he threw from a high ¾ arm slot that was stiff at times.  Throws showed some accuracy with a Positional Velocity of 75 mph.  Hands were average.  Footwork was clean.  Footwork got stiff at times.  Showed clean exchanges.

Banks Northington, 1B/RHP, Charlottesville, 2016

Hit from a tall and athletic stance that was slightly open.  Smooth load back with a stride that dives in slightly.  Good rhythm to his swing.  Does not keep his lower half engaged when he approaches the ball.  Short path to the ball with good extension.  Fast hands that had an Exit Velocity of 86 mph.  Stroke should produce plenty of line drives with potential to find gaps.  In the field, he threw from a high ¾ arm slot.  His arm displayed some accuracy and hand a Positional Velocity of 76 mph.  Had average hands.  Clean footwork.  Fielding mechanics were stiff.  Exchanges were clean.

Luke Paczewski, 3B/1B, Cosby, 2016

Hit from a slightly open stance that was athletic and balanced.  Smooth leg kick stride that got on line and stayed balanced.  Hits with weight stacked on back side.  Aggressive approach to the ball.  Had an Exit Velocity of 84 mph.  Level swing path that gets good extension.  Swing maintained good rhythm.  Swing should produce plenty of line drives with gap to gap power.  In the field, he threw from a high ¾ arm slot that had some accuracy.  Positional Velocity of 80 mph.  Clean footwork that allowed him to play through the ball.  Mechanics got stiff at times.  Made clean exchanges.


Mikey Polansky, 3B, Hickory, 2017
Hit from a balanced, athletic stance that stood tall.  Hands started in an unorthodox position and bared on load, but was able to get the barrel to the ball violently.  Stride was long and stayed on line.  Maintained good balance.  Lower half exploded to the ball.  Showed a great approach to the round, driving balls consistently.  Swing path was short.  Line drive stroke with power that should find the gaps consistently.
  In the field, threw from a 3/4 arm slot with a loose arm action.  Throws were accurate.  Had clean footwork but waited on the ball at times.  Hands were soft.  Had an Positional Velocity of 76 mph.

Graham Seitz, RHP/1B, Herndon, 2016

Hit from a tall stance that was slightly open.  Small load back with a small stride to toe.  Stride maintained its line.  Lower half works slightly up out of stance.  Had an Exit Velocity of 88 mph.  Fast hands that work short and level through the zone.  Good extension.  Smooth swing with good rhythm that should have consistent gap power.  In the field, he threw from a loose ¾ arm slot that had accuracy.  Throws had some carry and life to them.  Positional Velocity of 88 mph.  Clean footwork that occasionally was slow. Clean exchanges.


Eli Warren, 1B/3B, James Wood, 2016

Hits from a tall and balanced stance.  Smooth load back with a two step stride.  Stride stays on line and balanced.  Keeps weight stacked on backside throughout swing.  Not much rhythm to his swing, causing him to get stiff at times.  Swing path works uphill.  Had an Exit Velocity of 84 mph.  Stroke should result in driving balls to gaps with pull power.  In the field, he threw from a high ¾ arm slot that had some accuracy. Had a Positional Velocity of 67 mph.  Footwork was stiff at times.  Showed clean exchanges and average hands.
